General Hospital, Carly Spencer, Laura Wright

Laura Wright, who made her daytime debut in 1991 portraying Ally Rescott on “Loving” and continued in the role on the spinoff series “The City,” is sticking around at “General Hospital,” where she’s played Carly Spencer since November 2005.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), in response to a fan who indicated they’d stop watching the daytime drama series should she ever leave, Wright responded, stating, “I’m not going anywhere… just signed a new contract !!!”

The news of Wright signing a new deal with the soap opera comes weeks after co-star Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) revealed on “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” that she too had signed a new three-year contract with the long-running series, though in Wright’s case, she didn’t indicate contract length.

Additionally, sources tell Soap Opera Network that several of the show’s stars have also recently re-upped, though Wright and Grahn are just two names who’ve publicly disclosed their status.

Before entering the world of Port Charles, and following her successful run on “Loving” (1991-1995) and “The City” (1995-1997), Wright went on to portray Cassie Layne on “Guiding Light,” winning a Soap Opera Digest Award for Favorite New Character in 1998. After exiting the soap in 2005, she took over the role of Carly on “General Hospital,” where she’s received eight Emmy Award nominations for Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series, including a win in 2011.

Fans are currently enjoying the on-screen romance between Wright’s character and Valentin Cassadine, played by James Patrick Stuart, who previously portrayed Will Cortlandt on “All My Children” during Wright’s time in New York City on “Loving,” with the two soaps taping in the same building.

“Unlike most soap couples, love that Carly and Val know the good & bad in each other and there’s no judging. Please don’t have them separated!” said one user on X, following a romantic episode that saw the pairing take the next step in their developing relationship. “Soap opera at its best! Just love these two!” commented another, as the couple reunited after Valentin’s time in WSB custody.
