I'm going to save my own thoughts until later on in the weekend when I get through some of this last week of May episodes with my soaps over the weekend. That said though...we are in the last week of May. So...how are you grading the soaps for this May Sweeps?

ALL HECK TO THE NO...NOT EVEN WORTHY OF A GRADE (BUT OF SHADE)

Y&R: Josh Griffith steps down as executive producer

Last time I checked, Griffith fired all (or most of) the breakdown writers before the 2023 writers strike, so he wouldn't have to rehire them after the strike. But that was a few years ago. At one point he was doing EP, HW and BDW all himself. Is that still the case? Is he still doing all the breakdowns himself or does have staff for that? (sorry I kind of lost interest in the show, so I may have missed some important info.)

Well. Griffith seems to be embracing the writing aspect. He just did four interviews with SOD (or one long interview broken into four articles).
There is one posted on the end of the May spoiler thread and the other three are at the start of the June spoiler thread.
It all sounds so tired, though.

I also believe that it's possible they were trying to create another Reva because they knew Zimmer was probably going to leave at the end of her next contract.
We make fun of Josh and to a lesser extent RN, but Reva would have never worked without Josh. The backstory, the star-crossed love--that's what made Reva bearable. You look at her early scenes and they're kind of like nails on a chalkboard. She was basically a cliche. But once it became about her and Josh, she became a real person. She rode that even after RN left the show for the first time.
Nadine didn't have that. She came across as a really awful person who ditched her kids and came back only because one was moving up the social ladder. She helped to make Harley's behavior more understanable, but for herself, I could detect nothing.
I liked Jean. She had a lot of presence and sparkle and she could be funny, too. They just never found a way to write Nadine to give her some depth. If you're going for creating a long-term character, you really have to do that. Some characters they go too far (I would say that happened with Blake, going from delicious manipulator to dull housewife) but you have to find the balance.

BTF, she was just getting into the gear...and the show did take a turn after the L. A. remote...when Mal Young did his coup. I would take her over JG to see what could have happened any day off of that.

BTG: May 2026 Discussion Thread

-- I agree that photo of Derek as a firefighter did not look like him. I clocked that right away and even thought "Who is that?"
-- I wasn't crazy about the Bill and Dani talk regarding Mike this week. Just seemed like something that should have been discussed and put away long ago. Was it to show Dani and Bill have unresolved feelings? Because all it did for me was cement what an awful husband Bill was and what a misogynist he is.
-- I will never stop rolling my eyes and laughing at Vanessa with her fake performative grief over Doug. She's a clown, and I don't believe a word out of her mouth.
-- The Impaler contacted Randy for a meeting with Joey. RANDY??? Come on.
-- Leslie vs. Hayley is fun, but I wish the writers would pull back the need for every single line out of Leslie's mouth to be worthy of a bumper sticker. I don't get the need to write her as a caricature.
-- I thought it worked to have the sexy talk and romance between Anita and Vernon. I also thought it was a lot to make it the focal point of the entire show, as well as the Friday cliffhanger.
-- Like every other soap and every TV show and every movie, younger people were HORRIFIED to catch their elders making out, and it's always to the point of covering their eyes and hiding. Can we get ONE SHOW where they young people don't freak out like they've seen full-on boning?
-- And then it got even more cliched when Kat and Martin needed strong drinks at Uptown to overcome the terrifying sight of catching their grands kissing. It's just cheap and lazy writing.
-- Bound to happen I guess, but this week was just meh for me. I don't feel like the pedal was kept to the metal.
