Following our exclusive report that Kate Mansi had finished taping at “General Hospital” as Kristina Corinthos-Davis, and would be making her final on-screen appearance at an undisclosed date, a new interview with the actress, published Sunday by former Soap Opera Digest Editorial Director Stephanie Sloane as part of her SoapSteph’s Soap Dish newsletter, Mansi details her reasons for leaving the daytime drama series after just three years, including projects she’s currently seeking and how a shift in her personal life also played a role in her decision.

“I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave ‘General Hospital,’” said Mansi to Sloane. “I have a few new projects that require my full attention and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles.”

Mansi’s husband is a co-executive producer of the upcoming “Tomb Raider” series for Prime Video, starring Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”). Meanwhile, Mansi finished taping at “General Hospital” in April and will make her last on-air appearance in June.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Frank [Valentini, executive producer], ABC, and our writers for the care they gave Kristina,” she continued. “It’s been such a meaningful and unforgettable ride. I’ve loved being a fiery Corinthos-Davis girl in such a phenomenal family.”

In a statement, Valentini said, “We love Kate and support her decision to leave. The door is always open, and we appreciate all that she added to the show these past three years.”

Since joining the soap in 2023, Mansi has taken the character full circle, with Kristina further exploring a same-sex romantic relationship with Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez), opening an LGBTQ+ center in Port Charles, and dealing with the aftermath of loss after the character falling several stories into the Metro Court pool which resulted in the death of the baby she was carrying for her sister, Molly Lansing-Davis (Kristen Vaganos), and Molly’s spuse TJ Ashford.

In recent months, Mansi had the opportunity to work behind the scenes as a director on the series. “I was always really interested in directing. Our directors here are so incredible, and Frank was kind enough to let me shadow our directors here for quite some time and learn how they do it and the formula and the technique,” said Mansi of the experience in a behind-the-scenes video shared across the show’s social media channels.

He's one of the producers on the Tomb Raider streaming series filming for Amazon Prime. They are currently filming in England, and Kate's latest IG stories are from London.
