The character that came to my mind was Logan Armstrong from The Young and The Restless from 2007, played by Deanna Russo. She was a doctor who had stumbled upon Nick after he survived the Newman Jet crash somewhere. (I believe Joshua Morrow was going through contract negotiations at the time.) Anyway, it seemed like they were chem-testing them, even though Nick was already in the love triangle with Sharon and Phyllis. She somehow got him back home to Genoa City, in which Nick had amnesia for some sometime. Eventually, they settled Logan with Brad for a brief romance, until she left town to go to Doctors Without Borders. I also read up on her backstory, which involved a dead husband and kids.

Yeah Joshua was.

IIRC, there was some suggestion that somebody had rigged the Newman jet to crash, but it was all quickly forgotten.

I remember Logan, she had potential to be a long term character and she vibed well with Brad.. who was adrift as a character at that time.

Rafael Delgado (1999) - Introduced as Ashley's step brother (his mother was married to her biological father Brent Davis) who she had to bail out due to his possession of forged art work. He briefly came to Genoa City, was tested with Nina briefly before he had a brief dalliance with Victoria before he left town. I think part of the reason his character was dropped was due to Ashley being recast with Eileen Davidson and the show deciding to take her character in a different direction.

Yep. Like several stories at that I believe.

I was just wondering a few months ago how he was written out.

I do remember Eileen Davidson returning to reclaim her role though, coming out of the shadows fierce AF...very Kristen Dimera coded her re-entrance was. But I was busy with work, school, and life shortly thereafter.

Debbie Morgan as devon's mom (yolanda/harmony) on Y&R. She was essentially new characters, going by a new name even. This was the height of cbs's period of poaching AMC actors for y&r. They even had a promo for her.

Y & R

Jed Sanders (1993 - 1994) - As played by Josh Taylor, he came to town as a red herring during a brief period where Nina was trying to find her father and he happened to have a scar in the same place as her father had. After some interactions between Nina/Jed, she brings him to her place and is disappointed when her mother Flo states he isn't her real father. After that happens, he remains on the show for awhile with a brief relationship with Nikki (lots of chemistry between the two) and also has a fling with Jill (lots of chemistry between the two)... and just as it looked like we might get a Jill/Nikki feud over this... he was quickly written off the show and Nikki went back to mooning over Victor while Jill ended up fighting John to either stay married or get divorced over the next two years.

Thanks for the correction and recap. It was an awful storyline and I probably snoozed through most of it. I was also in high school and probably only saw it here and there. This was also when Rosanna started eating the show. I was also surprised when Yvonne Perry won an award right out of the gate shortly after starting on ATWT.

I never knew she won any awards...she had a few little moments (she was good at wistful monologues), but that surprises me.

I was also mentally checking out of ATWT at this time, and I also had school. My main memory of this story was Ned Simon dropping dead in the snow while mailing a letter confessing his guilt (he'd killed Linc).

Yvonne Perry won the Soap Opera Digest Award for" Outstanding Female Newcomer" in 1993. I remember thinking it was kind of out of thin air since she had barely started.

Yes, the Ned Simon thing was during the time ATWT when the writing was becoming subpar. Things really got bad around 1996 when NuPaul, Sara, Zoe etc...arrived. I noticed most of those actors never had many or any credits after their ATWT stint.

I think that's because Gary and Val's presence made the Wards redundant. Both couples were about the same age, and both were newlyweds, too (even though Gary and Val had been married before). Gary and Val received more attention, however, due to their connections to DALLAS.

I'm surprised Jacobs just didn't re-imagine the Wards as something else but a newly married couple. As you said, Val and Gary ended up filling that slot, with Karen and Sid being the "old" stable married couple and Laura and ratface being the long-term messy married couple. I'm not sure what I would've put in the Wards' slot instead (my first thought is a retired couple, but they would've similarly not fit in eventually).

Kenny and Ginger could have been the young couple not married but moving in together. That would have been reflective of the changing morals of the 80's. They could have explored commitment issues etc as 'living in sin' was still a hot button topic for many at that time.

Kenny could have seen it as permission to play around and Ginger could feel insecure as her peers were choosing the more traditional route. I think there would have been a lot to deal with there.

Kenny and Ginger never worked.

I agree. Even David Jacobs had Richard Avery dismiss their backstory as a joke - "they got married on an incoming wave" - and Jim Houghton and Kim Lankford just didn't have any real chemistry with each other, or with anyone else. (Houghton really should've stayed on Y&R).

There's no WAY anyone would've been able to do this on primetime TV in 1979, but I think I would've written (or, rather, rewritten) Kenny and Ginger as a couple where one of the spouses (maybe Kenny?) is gay, and the other spouse knows about it, but agrees to be their "beard," because of their deep friendship and their fear of being alone.
