Should have been chosen as head writer in 2016. Would have been GOLDEN!

She is the only other one that could've made the show even a semblance of its past self -- and I believe she would've done better than that, barring interference and with the support of a good producer. The opportunity passed. Sadly, we shall never see that Y&R return, except maybe the final episode....

No, we won't. And I think that's okay, truly. Time moves on. But what we need is not what we have. Unfortunately, unless ratings and demos plummet, we will never see the true change. Sally McDonald being co-executive producer is a positive step.

Kay Alden became HW in July 1998. I'm not sure how much of Bill Bell's material she was working off of in the beginning.

I'm pretty sure this was all her. Back in the day I had bought mst of 97-00 on DVD (which I foolishly lost at some point) and the transition between Bell/Alden was very obvious, despite their similarities. Jill and Katherine were firmly on the backburner in 1997 and one of Alden's big pushes was to bring them back to the forefront.

I didn't know they were airing a new classic from 1998 and even then, I expected the attic catfight episode. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was a new classic. I've missed Y&R and it was nice to see the show in such good shape. I miss the lush sets and set decorations, the glamour and that signature directing style which is gone. Y&R always seemed so unique and I hate that we lost pretty much all of it.

Was also nice to see so many characters I love. In addition to Jill and Katherine, it was so nice to see Nina featured. She is one of my all-time favorites and should be a frontburner character today. Tricia Cast can do so much with so little. Her final years on the show were brilliant. When I watched this originally, I believe this was before what we saw today but Nina was very depressed over Ryan cheating on her. Jill came over, much as she did today and she could tell something was off and told Nina that she had let herself go and she got her set up with a gym membership. It's so awful but also very Jill. What further complicated things is that you could tell she was genuine and trying to help Nina. I loved their interactions in the later years and the "peace" they found.

Seeing this classic episode really does validate aĺl the harsh criticism of today's Y&R, that it so rightly deserves. From the beautiful direction, camera work, extras in the background, the use of multiple sets, demonstrate how sorely lacking and pathetic what we are seeing today.

I didn't watch Y&R regularly back then, however, I always kept an eye on the show. I think I have watched all the episodes since 2011/2012. The different regimes over the years have all tried to leave their marks, modernizing the show, but failing and stripping the show of it's true identity.

Josh Griffith needs to go. There should be no ifs, ands or buts he needs to go, literally right now.

THIS. So night and day. This music cue they just played between Victor and Christine. Shivers. The fact I'm watching live and have no desire to watch when it goes back to same ole, same ole tomorrow/next week is a testimony to how superb old school Y&R was. I could go on about the camerawork all day. And just seeing everyone that I know and love/love to hate is great.

And good that you get to get a taste of it.

Same. It's time.
