ARTICLE: Peter Stormare Guest Stars On ‘General Hospital’ As The Replacer In Sponsored Tie-In For ‘Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7’

Peter Stormare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, General Hospital

This week, “General Hospital” promised a familiar face would be landing in Port Charles, and it turns out the show was referring to “The Replacer,” an iconic character played by voice actor Peter Stormare from the “Call of Duty” video game series.

The Replacer (Stormare) appears innocuously throughout the Friday, November 7 episode, with a busy Felicia (Kristina Wagner) walking around the fictional General Hospital floor handling official business when she’s handed a thick folder from a mystery man, who, while walking off, catches a pencil that nearly falls to the floor.

“Ooh, there you go,” says the mystery man, who does not identify himself. As he approaches the elevator, Felicia, who is suspicious, begins to question the material that was just handed to her. After a face-off, the man disappears. The scene ends there, but the soap opera later shared an extended version, which finds the man returning to the hospital desk where he handed Felicia the folder, leading him to identify himself as Felicia puts him in his place, discussing Stella Henry (Vernee Watson) had gone to play “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7,” the latest game in the franchise, which is set to be released on all platforms on Friday, November 14.

Stormare’s appearance as The Replacer was part of a sponsorship tie-in with the ABC daytime drama series and video game maker Activision to help promote the release of the game, with his legendary character doing what he does best – stepping in so that people can stay home and play “Call of Duty,” this time filling in for the hospital staff and stirring up more chaos than usual in Port Charles. Incidentally, Stormare also appeared on “Good Morning America” this morning, where he was featured as a director and meteorologist during a promotional segment.

Outside of “Call of Duty,” Stormare has a vast number of acting credits to his name, including voice work on several video games, roles in such shows as “Tracker,” “1923,” “The Box,” “American Gods,” “The Blacklist,” “Prison Break” and “Entourage,” among others. His most recent film work includes “Until Dawn,” “Off the Grid,” “Day Shift” and “Beyond the Sky,” among others.

In an ad for the game, Stormare appears as a replacement coach for a high school basketball team. In another spot for ESPN, he replaces an ESPN commentator. Check out those clips below, and much more.

I take it back: Erika Slezak's brief run as Monica's long-lost sibling is NOT the most pointless thing I've seen lately on GH.

Yes, because so many soap opera fans are out there playing Call of Duty. Stupid.

"Duty" must not be very popular if they've been reduced to hawking it on GMA and GH.

Excuse me, but what is this? I have no earthly idea. 😂

Ten bucks says Peter Stormare said the exact same thing when told he'd appear on GH.

CoD is extremely popular. I hate the games but they are huge.

I can't believe GH/ABC can get him to advertise a huge video game like Call of Duty for possibly just one day, but can't afford more music rights or basic major brands, like BTG and the Prospect Park soaps. We still got Anna using the imaginary search engine "SpyderFinder" in 2025! What good are these huge tie-in ads (they did that horrific KFC promo subplot with George Hamilton as Colonel Sanders in the last decade too) if you can't get more money for the show?

Maybe it's going to more actors we don't need, idk. At least if Stormare had a real role on the show that'd be worthwhile.

I agree!

Hell yeah!  "Fargo" is one of the few post-1989 films I actually enjoy.  I'd totally be down for him appearing for a brief arc.

If he's also doing bits on ESPN I wonder if Frank is even involved or if Disney just asked him to work Stormare in for cross-promotion, similar to the Stephen A Smith appearances. I don't know why Disney thinks these audiences mesh, but it does go with the sudden attempt to try to bring back spy intrigue...

There are gamers (myself included) and other fans of various things that do watch soaps. Smith himself is proof that a male and sometimes str8 audience still watches, he's a longtime fan (and the Black male audience has also turned up for BTG, evidently - several male celebs have come out repping for it).

But I really don't think ABC is pushing for Stephen Smith to have a regular recurring part or ongoing romantic subplots on GH. The initial cross-promotion may have happened once someone at the network or Disney discovered he was a GH fan, but Smith and Brick's ongoing presence and weird storylines are probably just because Frank enjoys having him back. Similar to Snoop's recurring role at OLTL, which was more organic and he was also a longtime fan.

To be honest, I didn't recognize the name Peter Stormare, so I looked him up.
I have seen him in only one thing:
In the film "Chocolat", he played the bartender who was an abusive husband.  He was really great at portraying a horrible person.

I know almost nothing about videogames.  My ex used to play the Zelda series; but back in those days, they had no voice actors (dialogue was text on screen).  I might recognize some of the music since the games were played for hours every day.

The only videogame voice actors I know about are soap actors who also do voices:
Christopher Sean, Courtney Hope, Clyde Kusatsu, Victoria Grace, and Emily O'Brien.
(I know this is part of their careers, but I have not paid attention to the names of the videogames they voiced).

A one-day cameo by Peter Stormare to promote a videogame -- that won't interest me in the videogame. But hey, I get it.  Soap fans have diverse interests in other parts of their lives; so I get that some GH viewers know Stephen A. Smith from ESPN or know Peter Stormare from Call of Duty.  Even though I don't watch "Big Brother", I understand why its alumni sometimes have cameos on Y&R or B&B.  It's marketing, and part of show biz.  I don't mind it.

Speaking of marketing, on BTG, they do product placement of Tide and Febreze, and that's kind of fun!  But, what's far more important is that I appreciate the Procter&Gamble business ethic.  I already use Tide, and I am actually considering buying some Febreze just to support P&G.

Steve Burton played Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts which are very popular franchises.
