Yeah they don’t even play him as even truly loving Scout, she’s more of a pawn for him to spite his family.

Exactly why I said earlier that he could use some softing. I just don't know how they can do it. Because if I saw him with Scout, I would think of her more as a pawn now than his own daughter. Not helped by how he acts. Meanwhile, they can't use Willow because it is so clear she is over him.

So...how?

I haven't watched GH in probably 18 years (yikes haha), but Erika Slezak got me to tune in because I was curious. I watched the first few episodes only for her scenes, but I started letting the rest of the episodes play out and I got sort of hooked (go figure, I'm easy haha).

Few thoughts:

1) There are SO many characters, I need a manual and family tree to study.

2) There are SO many hot men on this show, I've been missing out. Nathan, Gio, Chase, Cody, Lucas, Michael, Brennan... just to name a few.

3) There are SO many soap alums on this show, which I absolutely love seeing.  Seeing GL's Annie and Cassie together again is amazing. :)  They just need to get Zimmer to cameo and we'll have a fun trifecta.

I'm still trying to piece some things together, like why is Willow so important?  She seems way too young for Drew and why would she want to shoot Drew if they seem to be a couple.  Some of these family members are so spider-webby, hopefully I can figure it out after a few more weeks, if I last that long haha.

The sets, budget and traditional umbrella storytelling seems better than other soaps out there right now.

You go, gal!!! Diving into a show for an awesome actress! :) Guilty of that myself. I liked reading this.

You do it using the relationship with Jake, who he was always very close to as a father in the Billy Miller years (and in the rare times they've acknowledged each other's existence since the recast, Jake was beside himself when Drew got attacked in prison). And by going through the relationships that used to be indispensable to Drew and are now combative. I've said before how bizarre it is for him to needle and terrorize Danny when he loved the boy as his son for several years. I buy Drew turning dark so hard, but they need to dig into the why - re: Jason, his traumatic history, the loss of all of Drew's former life and identity, the loss of Sam and the life he had before Jason returned, the loss of Kim Nero and his first child, etc. I've said before I think the younger Willow is in a certain way a kind of subconscious replacement for his long-lost youthful sweetheart in Kim.

You can explore all that and still keep Drew a villain.

But would the writing go there or would it feel like Rocco/Britt 2.0? ;)

That said...ooooo because that also plays on the marvelous undercurrent of tension between Jason and Drew and give it another layer of complexity. And I'm always down for Jason vs Drew. And of course, using Liz's son to do so would sell on that idea to use it to soften Drew.

But would they bring Liz's kid back?

Not as long as this writing team rides herd.

I don't think you have to make Drew and Jake super close again. Drew's actions do not support that. But Jake had a tentative at best relationship with Jason last year (rumors fly that Mulcahey had wanted to play a Jake/Danny rivalry re: their differing opinions of their father a la Jason/A.J. in the '90s last year, and there were hints of that which made it onscreen when they fought), and I can see Jake still being the chink in Drew's dark armor where he lets some humanity out, shaming him a bit and still caring for him, reflecting on how close they used to be. Jake (who was brainwashed by Helena after years on Cassadine Island per that whole Chimera mess, and could well still have more scars there) could also relate to Drew's massive mental trauma. It wouldn't change who Drew is, but you can add layers and some dimension. You even have the flashbacks, at least on Hudson West's end, where Jake absolutely disintegrated when he learned Drew was not his father.

And I was here for that Sins of the Father storyline when it was airing. For years, the board have been shading Jason for not being there as a father. So I felt PM was very entuned with his audience that he started to play with a story that was tailored to that. It was also something refreshing for Jason to deal with as a bonus.

Yeah, that all sounds so intriguing and the potential for it writes itself. And Jason would be pressed about even the slightest hint of Jake and Drew bonding over trauma.

But like you said...these writers would be so against it.

Someone wrote elsewhere,"I'm getting tired of useless scenes with Anna doing nothing but recapping everything we already know".

I was wondering why I'm compelled to hit FF a lot of the time when she's on.

She did look nice in the last episode though.

It was a special circumstance, but the ratings growth during the 50th year anniversary was on the back of the OLTL audience that came for the crossover, the return of many popular vets not seen since JFP’s reign of terror, the big umbrella water poison story, and Robin Scorpio. They rested a lot of the driving story on Finola Hughes, from Faison in a mask, Duke, and Robin. While Sonny and Carly were there, they were not the center of the show like they used to be.

Who knows how soap audiences, especially the Nielsen households react anymore. Sonny is still very popular, even if I have tired of him ages ago. But much like Reva leaving GL in the early 90’s, I think if the rest of the show is strong enough, people will stay tuned in. But right now they are both pretty marginalized. Jason has more going on, but it’s because they made his circle larger.

Of all the veterans that reappeared in 2013, I think Anna has had the most consistent screen time. For a veteran character that was on and off the show for 20 years it's remarkable to see her be one of the female leads these days.

This in comparison to Felicia or Bobbie (RIP) who they seemed to stop writing for by the early 2000s.

One of the main reasons Willow/Drew got together is because she idolized him. She came from a cult and transferred those issues onto him. And I think Drew wanted the power rush and also probably wanted to spite his nephew, Michael, who is the golden boy of the Quartermaines and of Sonny's mob caravan.

Ahh I see, interesting.  Thank you! :)
