In the current timeline, when was the last time Tony actually ran DiMera on his own? I don’t mean Andre posing as Tony while the real one was stuck on Melaswen or tied up somewhere. I mean Tony himself, without Stefano in the picture. Or, as part of a consortium with his various siblings, like EJ, Stefan, or Chad?  Because none of those characters are around to help this time.

The last instance I can recall is back when he was smuggling prisms through Anna’s fashion line and somehow managed to crash into the Bermuda Triangle.

So my advice to Xander would be: sell high, cut Philip and Alex loose, wait six months for Tony to tank the company by pouring its funds into some farshtunkener back-from-the-dead scheme, and then buy it back at half the price.

Xander seems to have forgotten that they had to downsize after the merger, and profits were down before Stephanie wrote her book.  So, sit back, get some anger AND management training from someone you didn't once shoot in the head, and let the chips fall where they may.

It's that classic soap opera issue.  Everyone in town is full of gossip about everything except the information people need to make good choices.

Technically, never! DiMera Enterprises wasn't a thing until 2008-09. Tony "died" in 2009 (when Stefano was alive and running things) and didn't come back to life until 2019, and he's been very in-and-out since then. So I have no idea why he cares this much about "Faaaaaaaathuh"'s stupid company.

Is Tony actually Tony or is he going to turn out to be Andre? The problem is when they made the "Tony was really Andre from 93 to 2007" retcon, that left so little time for the actual Tony DiMera that its hard to tell if this storyline is a misuse of his characterization. I just remember during the 2008-2009 era, Tony was the most "anti-DiMera" DiMera.

You're correct, I went back and read the wiki, and it was Andre who crashed the plane on the way to Haiti.

Just for fun, I highlighted my favorite parts of Andre's wiki

Andre being four years younger than Tony is the most insane and random fact. They've never told us who his parents are, how he became Stefano's son, or what he looked like before having this radical surgery, but we know THAT!

This is why, after about 2003 or so, you have to pick and choose what's canon for your own sanity.

There was definitely something weird there. The talk has always been that C&B's show was too expensive, and Higley pitched a bible that was way more affordable and producible, but she was out almost as soon as she started.

From memory, the ratings really started to fall quickly during Higley's first tenure. It might've been that they were talking about bringing JER on already, but I suspect they were already worried about the profitability of C&B's show and the ratings taking such a quick dive during the Higley era just put them into panic mode. The Salem Stalker storyline definitively came across as an attempt to cut costs massively.

It appears that Brady's stupidity has been passed on to his son 😂

I really enjoy Brady/Tate scenes. Brady, telling Tate that his plan for Sophia was not good was definitely the advice that he needed. I'm curious to see what Tate's going to do next. Brady getting to hold his grandson was really nice too.

And despite Rachel Boyd's monotone, emotionless voice, I did enjoy all the scenes at the Pub with the younger crowd as well. I didn't expect Holly to deck Tate though, even though I did think that it was in character for her to be so bitchy and impulsive. But at the same time, maybe it would have been better if they had let this secret with Tate play out for a little longer. The effects that it could have had on Tate/Holly's relationship and Holly's friendship with Ari could have been a lot stronger if they had let this burn for a little longer. Btw, Idk if it was intentional but they had Sophia looking evil today 😂

And yeah, they're still kinda missing the mark with Johnny and Chanel. They really should be a part of whatever EJ's doing at the hospital rather than anything happening with the college crowd. I'd rather something from that storyline possibly prevent them from adopting Tesoro rather than what Sophia's gonna do.

The Marlena/Sarah scenes were really nice too.

That punch Holly threw Tate's way was a shock for me, especially the fact that it was actually well-directed and looked like it hurt. Holly was channeling her inner Emma Roberts.

Sophia really did look and act like much more of an outright bad-girl today. I kind of loved when she blatantly told Johnny his actions basically ruined her life. No minced words there. Of course, Rachel Boyd gave her typical hilarious performance. What an interesting find she is.

I also laughed when Brady was advising Tate and threw in a "would it kill you to focus on your studies" line. It seemed too real for this show, but little things like that are appreciated. Brady and Rafe's scene was a good beat to play. I don't know if it's because they both started at the same time, but I felt a strong connection between them. It felt almost nostalgic from their era of the show.

Marlena stated she was beginning to feel better. Does this mean her "illness" storyline is over?

Marissa Reyes did good supporting work today and looked great sporting a different hair-style. The show has done a good job at taking their time building her up. I have faith she'll be quite good when they give her more to do, presumably with this internship and my speculation about her and Theo.

I will say, I was disappointed to not get follow up about the man showing up to Steph and Alex's door. I need to know if we really do have another Horton in our midst. Plus, only knowing about the upcoming blackout from the promo title (can't watch to remain as spoiler-free as possible), I wrongly assumed it would start today, too.

Then again, maybe mystery goop wasn’t as popular with fans as they thought it was going to be 😂😂😂

OMG, catching up on this thread, and I was about to post the same thing. That and Bo & Hope as bounty hunters, oy...

I feel like the original "Plan to save DAYS" came in early 2002 when Brash & Cwikly took over and we had that wonderful transitional payoff of Sami's crash & burn in Vegas with Austin leaving her and leaving Salem, but I could be wrong.

I gave up on trying to understand anything Andre / Tony / 3rd Party (I feel like they should've introduced a triplet... or another lookalike cousin... because I thought they were supposed to be cousins, not twins. I dunno)

All I remember thinking was that it was weird how Real Tony adjusted back into Salem life so quickly, suited up and ready to handle all things DiMera, when he had spent the last 20 years of his life stuck on an island wearing floral shirts.

They were cousins until 2015, and the story had been that Andre (Stefano's nephew) for some reason got plastic surgery to look just like Tony. Then in 2015, Andre showed up and was like, "Btw I found out I'm actually your son, Stefano!" They never explained it beyond that.

You're both probably right. I know the "Plan to Save Days" stuff started around that time. The media blitz about JER returning definitely had a whiff of "we're gonna right this ship!" -- it felt like they had hit the "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" point by having him do double-duty with Passions. It also felt like Higley's stuff had barely aired when we found out JER was coming back, but that might be my memory warping things a bit.

To be fair, they had a far less turn around in taping back then in addition to the ratings just starting to dive really fast. So I think she was replaced within three months or so into her run and then JER came in two or three months later. How they kept re-hiring her is beyond me, but maybe she's just really good at pitching things.

Looking at her Wikipedia page, she and JER were actually co-headwriters for a week between August 11-18, 2003. Though obviously it was just the transition week.

I think Ken Corday probably just has stock in post-it notes.
