I think romance is one of the show's real weak spots right now, and it's telling that of the actors who are in the Top 10 for episode counts this year, the only one in a really romantic storyline is Eden McCoy (Joss). I'm not counting Carly/Brennan, Sonny/Random DA Woman, or Drew/Willow or even Brook Lynn/Chase as genuine romance storylines. And it's too soon to tell whether we'll get any romantic scenes between Jason/Britt.

I will say that the one advantage of the show's huge cast and rotating storylines--where we'll sometimes not see our favorites for a week or more--is that it does allow more time for slow-burn romances to percolate, like Lucas/Marco (who were dating for months before they even slept together) and Emma/Gio (who were a little too slow-burn IMO).

I admit that I've idly thought about that today. Since these writers have been in charge, I guess the only romance that I've seen where I felt invested has been Emma and Gio. And yeah Joss is never lacking for a love interest. Yeah, there was the Drew/Willow affair, but that was more started before the takeover and now that's a mess. Otherwise I would say Ric/Liz, but then I would go off on the silliness (again) of Liz having not one...not two...but THREE of her former love interests on canvas at the same time and when she herself is single. Yeah, I don't even count Chase/BLQ either since they have been together for a while. So does that really leave Jason/Britt and Lucas/Marco for romance that feel somewhat believable?

Hmmm...do I feel their slow burn on building romances have improved? Honestly...outside of Emma and Gio...I would say no. For that very reason. The only reason it feels slow burn-y is due to how massive the cast is. So things (for example: Trina/Kai) drop off and I forget about them until they eventually pop up. It used to be...well with CVE at least...EK is still too early to tell methinks...that CVE would throw some wacky, silly situation between a couple getting together that came across as unbelievably forced. Worse, he did it when the slow burn that was going on between two characters was actually organically happening so I felt there was no need. I feel he still does that ie: Molly/Cody. But again, I personally still feel they have too much an elephant in the room for me to get invested in them.

I did enjoy their reactions to Nathan. I didn't watch when he was on, but he's handsome.

This is as about as exciting as he gets.

I love how much people have been hating on Lulu on other forums, and even many of them are taken aback by this Rocco story. I keep seeing “ I still hate pushy Lulu, but…”. It’s cracking me up!

Yeah. As soon as Britt walked into the hospital, I was Team Lulu...and mind you...happy to have her back on canvas cuz Laura's daughter and AB has been a superb recast...but I've been disliking Lulu for months. lol.

About the Tony discussion from a couple of pages back- I've been mad at them killing Tony for almost two decades now, but I'd just leave it alone. One, because I do think he got a great and iconic death in a pretty well regarded story and I'd hate to lose those goodbye scenes between him and Bobbie. Second, with no Bobbie, I think it's not worth it because the show went pretty hard on having people keep mentioning them being reunited so I'd just leave it alone. I wouldn't mind the suggestion of a look a like cousin or other relative lol, especially since it'd bring in some family for Lucas and Felicia and could be a fun romance option for a few people.

Also, I do get people being gun shy about the memorials given GH's past history. However, this isn't the era where they ignored Jessie. It's certainly not the JFP era where they either had Sonny and Carly at the centre of every memorial or had to fly in people for five minutes to shore up a group for Lila's funeral. They've been pretty committed to memorialising basically anyone whose died both onscreen and off (other than Alan which was a mess because he'd been dead for so long onscreen) and I've thought all of them were tasteful and well done. They even had Jax remember his mother when that actress died. I know we're only a few days in but I've thought everything from Monica's has been well done so far.

Rory Gibson and Alexa Havins, along with the Emma recast, have been a real shot in the arm for those characters and the show.

No comment on the Faison family's new introduction. This is all so pointless and I just don't know who this is for.

It feels like it's largely for CVE plus shoring up Steve's status, and no one else. Maybe Frank getting to luxuriate in staring at Ryan Paevey's oiled pecs and watching Gati be campy again.  I don't know.

I do wonder what the last romance on the show was that was well done or well-received by viewers.

Trina/Spencer was clearly disliked by TPTB, and not intended on their part, so I'm putting that aside.

Gio and Emma are becoming considerably popular IMO. But they haven't been played nearly as much as the Britt saga or Agent Joss of late, which is the problem. Same with Dante and Lulu. But I make this speech twice a week at this point so I'll stop.

I would say that...in spite of the TPTB...Trina/Spencer were the last romance. Special thanks to the strike writers who really went there with them, too.

Otherwise...though not well done for the reasons I posted earlier about CVE and how he writes romance...Chase/BLQ. They started off good IMHO. Until they didn't due to everything and the kitchen sink being thrown at them to make them work when they came together pretty organically from what I remember of it. I was not regularly viewing during the temp recast. So well-received if not well done?

She appeared as a child briefly in the occasional crossover. As for since then she's been mentioned exactly once in the last 15 years, I think. AFAIC she's still canon, but they tread very lightly around anything from PC these days if at all given the debacle of the story Carlivati did in 2013. It's all very ambiguous these days, but several characters from PC also remain canon to GH (as does Karen's fate) so she counts IMO.

So many soaps soaps (like Port Charles and GH) made egregious and damaging mistakes in the past. If I could not realistically repair them today, I'd lean towards ignoring them completely. Children established to exist are worth working into a show's canon a lot more than vampires, magic spells, and other such onsense.

I would not fully dive back into the mess of what is or is not canon from PC, but I would bring back some elements (like Christina/new name TBD and acknowledging Livvie's place in Kevin's life) and largely avoid the rest. Probably after one brief tossed-off rambling monologue by Lucy rationalizing the magic spell (from PC) she thinks is responsible, to which Kevin can cock an eyebrow at her and then say 'sure, Lucy.' End of discussion!

Good idea. Flippantly acknowledge the stupidity in a throwaway line, then dismiss it and forget about it forever.

Same. I believe like you...he would fall on the altar of Sonny.

All these years later, I still can't believe that degenerate criminal s and murderers like Sonny and Jason continue to survive and thrive. And go unpunished.

The show hasn't done a proper romance in decades.

And it does suck that they are wasting this back from the dead stuff on characters who, other than the actors playing them, I doubt many people wanted to see resurrected. They should be doing this with legacy characters who were stupidly killed off in the Guza years.

100% true. Alas, TPTB lack insight into what makes soaps satisfying to the audience. We want to see legacy characters, people we care about, not random and extraneous side characters.

I've seen some criticisms of Lucy being given scenes with Tracy about Monica instead of Gio, Cody or Stella being in those scenes. I wish they'd been included (well, maybe not Gio as I don't care that much about his Q ties anymore), but whatever the reason, I thought the pairing was interesting. More than anything done with Lucy in some time. They've never been close, and that worked well here. On paper, Tracy weeping on the stairs would have been too much for me, but Jane underplayed that whole scene beautifully.

Lucy being Lucy and Tracy being Tracy made the scenes between the work nicely.

I still can't get over the remodeled Q mansion, with the front door now to the right of the staircase. Would a change like that even be likely if the house were real?

Hmmm...you are making me think of that Ghost Tony/Bobbie moment. Still get chills because I always loved Tony/Bobbie.

Same. Love Lulu or hate her, Alexa nailed Lulu from her first frame. Rory I'm just so excited because success is its own revenge and he's getting that on Y&R great. And Emma...I had doubts, but I shouldn't have doubted. Casting did well with how she does look like her predecessor all grown up and has the same vibe.

I'm just glad the Q mansion isn't totally lathered in gray paint anymore like a few years ago, that they still use the original study/drawing room from time to time (though it would still be the primarily-used meeting space if it was up to me) and that the Quartermaines and their home are once again very prominent on the show as a hub for story and characters. The fact that the foyer barely resembles the original beyond still having a big staircase I can live with.

I don't think I ever heard Duhon had drug issues-just problems with JMB and Kirsten Storms.  I think Kin spoke very highly of him.  I believe Duhon also went on a post-GH press tour claiming how talented he was and how GH would regret firing him or something of the sort.  That's why he was never picked up by another show despite being actually talented lol.  In fact, I don't think Duhon has worked since GH anywhere.

After leaving GH, he is credited as appearing in one episode each of the TV series Ballers (in 2015) and NCIS: Los Angeles (in 2016). In addition, he was in two short films: West in 2014 and Mr. Tolliver in 2017. Since ten, as far as I could find, nada.

The whole week should've been dedicated to Monica. Secondary stories could've waited until next week. Gave more time for flashbacks and popups with from old castmembers.

But they dont know how to write soaps anymore....

When was the last time GH was actually well written? Under Claire Labine?

What old cast members would you suggest?  I am having trouble thinking of anyone.  Robin?  Most of the people closest to Monica are either dead on the show or unfortunately passed away in real life.   I would love a Sean Kanan AJ back from the dead pop up lol.

If the show must do this dumb story, Sean Kanan's AJ coming back would give it some purpose.

You know what? It's been a minute but I have to give it up to Carly for laughing in Britt's face. If her last arc proved anything, Britt can't hold a torch up to Carly and Jason's friendship. Carly ain't threatened by anyone not named Brenda.
