On Friday, July 11, production on the current iteration of “Neighbours” wrapped in Sydney, Australia. The final episode of the Prime Video reboot of the long-running soap opera series will air in December.

“Today marks the final day of production on our beloved ‘Neighbours,’” read a message on the show’s official Instagram page, which included behind-the-scenes photos of the cast and crew as the final “cut” was called. “It's with a heavy heart that our incredible cast and crew wrap for the final time. As sad as this day may be, we can't wait for you to see the amazing storylines that are about to unfold over the coming six months. Together we have been, and always will be, the perfect blend.”

“Selling Sunset” and “All My Children” star Chrishell Stause, who appeared on the Australian drama series as Yasmine “Yas” Shields, a glamorous and successful businesswoman who is in pursuit of an exciting new opportunity, commented on the post, saying, “So much love to you guys!”

“I am ending it in a way that sets up future chapters,” showrunner and executive producer Jason Herbison said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald which was published earlier this month. “It’ll be very hopeful and optimistic, but it will be different to last time. Most importantly, it absolutely leaves the door open for a few different ways the show could come back in the future.”

In a statement released on Friday, Herbison said, "Once again, we will be resting the residents of Ramsay Street on a hopeful note, with some tantalising possibilities for a future chapter." He added, “'Neighbours' is a special show and it’s been a privilege to make the recent seasons for our loyal viewers around the world. We have added 460 episodes to our legacy of over 9000 episodes, something we all feel proud of.”

Herbison has served as the show’s executive producer since 2013.

This marks the third time the series has concluded since it first premiered on March 18, 1985, having emerged as the longest-running drama series in Australian television history with millions of fans across the globe and helping launch the careers of several household names, including Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Russell Crowe, among others.

The series first aired on the Seven Network in Australia before it was canceled a few months later due to its poor performance in the Sydney market. The show was later moved to the 10 network in 1986 and remained on the channel until 2010. In 2011, the show moved to 10 Peach, a free-to-air television channel run by Network 10. The show was abruptly canceled in 2022 when the UK’s Channel 5 announced it would no longer carry the series on its network.

Amazon announced in early 2023 that it would bring back the Freemantle-produced series on a global basis through its Freevee streaming platform. The reboot debuted on the service in September 2023. By late 2024, Freevee was discontinued, with its programming becoming available through Prime Video.

In February 2025, Amazon announced that it would not be renewing the soap opera following the conclusion of its two-year deal.

“‘Neighbours’ has brought so much joy over the last 40 years to its fanbase globally and in the UK,” said an Amazon spokesperson, confirming the show’s cancellation at the time. “Forty years is an incredible milestone and we are proud that Amazon MGM Studios was able to have a small part of bringing further episodes to Freevee and Prime Video customers over the last two years, spanning over 400 episodes.”

Prime Video is currently airing new episodes four times a week until the show’s conclusion in December 2025. In March, the soap celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special week of episodes dedicated to storylines and characters, new and old.

Longtime cast members Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy), Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy), Ryan Moloney (Jarrod "Toadfish" Rebecchi) and Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson) have each appeared in more than 6,000 episodes of the series, with Fletcher and Woodburne appearing in the most overall at nearly 7,000.

Fans can continue to watch the series on Prime Video following its conclusion, as full episodes will remain on the service thereafter in addition to the hundreds of episodes available from previous seasons, part of the two series-themed FAST Channels, “Neighbours – Looking Back” and “Best of Neighbours.”

In addition to streaming on Prime Video in the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and South Africa,  Network 10 retained first-run broadcast rights in Australia with ad-free episodes releasing seven days later on Prime Video in Australia.

Thank you @Errol. This reminds me I have to start watching this show. Heard so much good about it.

I am heartbroken over this; I applaud Freevee for giving us two more years of our family on Ramsey Street, and it is a crying shame Prime Video did not feel it worth continuing; it's clear the audience is there... but production support is not. It is a shame Network 10 would not invest in this soap to help Fremantle Australia out; at least Seven Network (which produces/airs Home and Away, a less successful soap) helps in the production for Home and Away. Makes me wish Neighbours could have returned to Seven, where it all began.

I also feel like Neighbours just never recovered the disastrous Susan Bower era in which so many characters were sacrificed for shock and ratings value.

This is such a shame. It didn't feel real for so long because the second season on Amazon has been *so* good that I just refused to accept that it was going away. It's bittersweet. I guess it's a good thing the show is going out on such a high note but it leaves me wanting more.

They finally figured out the new cast and how to weave in guest spots from past cast members in a meaningful way. They added more drama and intrigue, hell they even had a successful US crossover with Chrishell Strause doing some of her best work.

    • I loved today's episode....shocker LOL Dani & Andre were so cute and adorable. Vernon trying to cover his tracks with Anita, while holding his own with Leslie. And the pièce de résistance, Eva & Kat. Soooooo goood!!!
    • According to the newspaper columnists at the time of Mark Dante's return, Gerald Gordon had been a favorite of Fred Silverman, who left ABC for NBC and took Gordon with him. Silverman supposedly put him on a contract with NBC. Gordon return to "General Hospital" occurred after Silverman left NBC so Gordon may have been in need of work and he may have left Monty on good terms. His pairing seems very C-story at best based on synopses but maybe there was more to it.
    • I am truly at a loss for words about today's episode. I have no clue what they are trying to do or where this Luna story is going. I was literally dumbfounded.
    • I'm inclined to agree with you and I loved her at Santa Barbara.
    • I haven't watched DAYS in years, so I have some questions for anyone who can answer them. Is the show actually acknowledging that Jeremy abused Stephanie?  The things he did to her back in 2007 were reprehensible.  I wasn't watching too much when that was happening, but I seem to remember that the show (at the time) didn't outright label him an abusive partner and instead acted like he was just badly behaved or something like that.  Could someone who was watching back then tell me how they remember it?
    • It also strangely happened while the story was airing. You had a gothic and spooky story that because it got eyeballs ended up being dragged out and turned into camp. Marlena starts talking to herself constantly with that voice, she’s strapped to the bed for a never ending exorcism, would almost die multiple times during the process, and then everyone would just leave her there with Caroline Brady sitting next to her holding a rosary. Reilly had the show so segregated that when Carrie found out what was happening in practically her next scene she was like I’m praying for Marlena. Now what are we going to do about Sami? I don’t know about anyone else, but I would probably stop my storyline for at least a couple of episodes and have to go see my stepmother that had a huge part in raising me floating around with those eyes in her beautiful penthouse. It was just so stupid, and when it started I didn’t necessarily agree with the story being told, but at least it was taken seriously.
    • Yes, I feel the same way. I get the reasoning behind hiring him. He was playing a very similar character on RH, and they were in a pinch. I also found his accent very distracting. But then, Bev also didn't sound like she was from Illinois, and it didn't bother me a bit. That said, I've always had a great deal of sympathy for the situation he was in. It's never easy to take over from someone popular with fans, and how the TPTB were always insisting he was coming back eventually was another issue. Hearing he was going through it in his personal life on top of that makes me even more sympathetic. I found the article where it mentioned he had worked on both soaps at the same time. This was written a while after he left the show. Interesting that he was open to returning and that fans were asking him about when Alan was going to get out of jail. To this day, I don't understand why they kept Alan off the canvas as long as they did. He should have been there in the thick of Roger's return (without the dumb attempt to kill him), especially while he was married to Alex. To me, Raines was lacking in a lot of qualities needed for Alan. I think he would have been a better Mike Bauer.  They took five years to bring Alan back. They could have found someone better. No one is irreplaceable. Anyone who took over the role would have been different from Bernau. But somewhere out there was an actor who would have had the suaveness, intensity, and charm that IMO the character needed.

    • I did feel like JFP's Y&R was decent. Of all the recent HW/EP swaps, her period was very safe but watchable. Nothing spectacular but better than what we have now.
    • I don’t watch B&B but I did know about Heather and forgot her. I really don’t know anything about Lawrence. Do people like his scripts?   Yes she did! And I know she did double duty too, even if Bell slowly phased Julia out while she wrote for the show.
