ARTICLE: ‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ Departing Television City, Sets Move To Sunset Las Palmas Studios

With their lease up, “The Bold and the Beautiful” is moving out of Television City and heading to the Sunset Las Palmas Studios, just a few miles northeast, keeping production in Los Angeles. Production on the half-hour series will resume on Tuesday, August 19, after its summer hiatus.

Produced at the facility since its premiere in 1987, the soap opera is the second CBS daytime program to relocate following “The Price is Right,” which set up shop at the brand-new, state-of-the-art Haven Studios in Glendale in 2023.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was one of several other shows, including “The Young and the Restless,” whose leases are coming up and needed new digs as its long-time home, Television City, prepares to undergo major renovations in the near future.

In March 2021, Hackman Capital Partners, which purchased the property from CBS in 2018 (finalized in 2019) for $750 million, announced plans to build additional studio space and renovate areas all around the 25-acre property, costing roughly $1.25 billion, in the hopes of feeding “the enormous appetite of streaming services and visual effects whizzes.” Part of the plans include increasing the number of soundstages to 15 from the currently available eight.

“It’s been an extraordinary 38 years at Television City, where we have produced over 9,600 episodes of ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,’” said head writer and executive producer Bradley P. Bell in a statement. “As we look ahead, we’re excited to begin this next chapter at Sunset Las Palmas Studios — continuing our production in the heart of Hollywood and the great state of California.”

Owned by Hudson Pacific Properties, Sunset Las Palmas is part of the Sunset Studios complex.

Currently in its 38th season, “The Bold and the Beautiful” remains the world’s most-watched daily series, seen by millions of viewers in over 100 countries. In April, CBS renewed the series for an additional three seasons, keeping it on the network through the 2027-2028 television season, which is on par with sister soap “The Young and the Restless.”

Produced by Bell-Phillip Television Productions, the series continues featuring original cast members Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan) and John McCook (Eric Forrester) in major storylines. Bradley Bell has also been with the series since its first episode.

This will be interesting to see how a Bell soap is produced outside of Television City; I'm going to assume Y&R is likely to move at some point, as well? Sunset Las Palmas Studios looks like a very nice studio lot, as well.

In the article about the move to the new studio, it said B&B will resume production August 19th after its summer hiatus.

I'm assuming yesterday was last day of production because of the announcement.

Does that mean B&B has a full 3 months in the can now? They must have at least 3 weeks past restarting production - maybe even coinciding with the start of the next season - usually mid-September. The could mean JMW has filmed enough to make her on-air absence pretty short. 

Anyone know how B&B's production schedule works?

I'm not an expert but I do know they typically take these summer breaks and backlog episodes to make it possible. I imagine that's easy for them since it's only a half hour soap. 

I hope that the new studio gives them an opportunity to revamp the sets and overall production. I know they had some outdoor sets and I wonder if that will continue with the new studio. Hopefully this is a positive move and gives them more space as well.

Most CBS soaps are anywhere from four to six weeks ahead from tape-to-air, and several cast members have been on record stating they do up to three episodes per day (due to being a 30-minute soap), so I am sure they amped up production a bit to book in a month or so they're off for summer break. I know GH has done the same in years past.

I expect Y&R will vacate TV City soon.

B&B will be well served at Sunset Las Palmas Studios and I hope they are able to invest in their sets and production with more space.

Television production in Los Angeles has taken a real hit, so I have no doubt that SLPS was very happy to take on a long term tenant like B&B.

They're pretty far ahead. I know there was a pic that came out that was posted on IG April 1st showing Hope back at Forrester and that scene didn't happen till almost 6 weeks later. So they're getting far ahead to deal with their summer break and the move

@Errolany idea how big the new studio is and will they be sharing it with any one else?
