I’m up to May 11, 1999.
*A new actress, Hayley Sparks, is playing Harley (5/05)! I wonder if Beth E. was pregnant in real life and had her baby?
Everyone has gathered the morning after the diner fire and an angry Harley says Max will be responsible for what happened, but Susan claps back and says it was an accident and if anything happens to Max, she’ll never forgive her. Buzz later pulls Harley aside and tries to convince her it was an accident and Max is harmless. Meanwhile, Frank couldn’t find Max’s foster parents, so Max was forced to spend the night in juvenile hall, which pisses off Drew. The foster mother shows up, but is frustrated that Max never obeys and Drew yells at her. Drew wants to take custody of him as his legal guardian, but Frank warns her against that. While the adults are all arguing, Max and Susan sneak out of the main police station room, which the adults later realize. Susan helps Max escape the building and then comes back to the adults and tells them it was her idea for him to run, not Max’s. We then see Max at Dorothy’s grave, telling her what’s been happening and wishing she was still there. He says he really hopes Drew is his sister, just as Drew walks up and finds him.
Buzz turns the radio on and we hear the DJ call out a winning $1M English sweepstakes ticket number, with just very little time left to claim (in London - Jenna bought the ticket). We then see that winning ticket and number at his home, which he doesn’t notice. Jesse stops by and tells Buzz that in order for Drew to become Max’s legal guardian, Frank needs proof they’re related, which the fake birth certificate won’t fly. Buzz finally agrees to talk to Frank about it, leaving Jesse to clean up. We then see Selena hear the winning numbers over the radio and writes them down, thinking back to Buzz having a ticket. She rushes over to the firehouse, and Jesse is now gone, and she finds the ticket in the trash and confirms it’s the winning ticket. Buzz walks in and Selena screams out in joy, scaring him, and she finally gets out that they have Jenna’s winning ticket, but they have 3 hours to get to London to claim it. They get Phillip to let them use a private jet to get to the British consulate in Chicago so they can technically make their deadline.
Drew moves Max into the loft and thanks Jesse for allowing her to do it. Max is seemingly happy now too having Drew take him in. Jesse is now working hard to not let Drew know the truth, knowing how happy she is and what everyone would lose if it came out. Buzz tries to call Frank from the plane, but isn’t able to connect, and we then see Frank get a phone call from authorities informing him that Drew and Max aren’t related. Frank shows up to Drew/Jesse’s place and is about to tell them about Max/Drew not being related, but Jesse tries to stop him and eventually punches him as a distraction. Drew takes Max away and once Frank comes to, Jesse apologizes and tries to persuade him from telling Drew/Max the truth by telling him Buzz broke the law by forging her birth certificate. Frank is still adamant about telling the truth, but once he sees Max/Drew happy together, he changes his mind and leaves.
Buzz and Selena arrive at the British consulate in Chicago to claim their million dollars, but the snooty secretary was just about to lock up and says they’re two minutes late by their clock. After the secretary leaves, Buzz and Selena get caught turning back the clocks by the British judge, who is rude to them and says they’re too late. Selena takes the judge aside and pleads with him to give them grace, given that Buzz’s wife just died and his diner just burned to the ground. It works and Selena surprises Buzz with the good news that he will win the money and needs to get to London to claim the prize! Buzz is a millionaire now LOL.
Beth finds Jim at Cassie’s house helping her with a chore. After Jim leaves, Beth confronts Cassie about men always finding her to be a damsel in distress, especially now that Hart is gone. Cassie thinks she’s disgusting, jealous and insecure for even saying that (I do too - Beth is losing me here).
Reva sees the crest of San Cristobel in the newspaper and realizes her ring has the same crest. She tells Josh she knows things about that place, but doesn’t know what or why. She then assumes Sarah must have gone there during one of her trips, and between the letter and ring showing up around the same time, Reva says this is a sign that Sarah would want them to go there for their honeymoon, which Josh agrees to. Reva later hosts her own engagement party decorated with random holiday decor, inviting Cassie, Abby, Harley and Blake. She surprises them with a fortune teller named Madame Zuma, who reads Abby first. She tells Abby there is a big change coming, something she never thought would happen. Abby thinks maybe it’s having a baby, but the Madame tells her it’s something much bigger than a baby. She says the cards are very clear that Abby’s hearing will come back, which will bring changes to her life. She then reads Cassie, saying the darkness of losing Hart will be replaced with joyous light and an exciting new adventure awaits her, but a woman might stand in her way of that adventure. She said to beware of the woman, but don’t be scared of her. Recast Harley then passes on a reading, so it’s Reva’s turn next. Madame brings up the ring that she sees from Reva’s past, which Reva assumes someone told her about prior to coming over. Madame says the ring is very important, and after Reva says it’s a sign from her mother, Madame says it is not at all from her mother which scares Reva. The ladies then all leave, with Cassie commenting that Reva should let Josh pick the entertainment for the wedding. While alone with the Madame, Reva tries to tell her the readings were phony, but the Madame says she will find out more about the ring soon and not to worry, she will have a beautiful wedding. Reva then asks about the honeymoon and whether she should go to San Cristobel, and the Madame says there will be no way she can avoid it. Later that night, Reva tells Josh about Madame Zuma, who makes fun of the whole thing, but Reva gets him to realize she’s worried about San Cristobel. Josh says they can find a different place to go, but Reva changes her tune and says she’s not going to let fear take over. Abby stops by and they talk about the new procedure that could help her hear. Reva/Josh encourage her to go through with it, but Abby says she’s very comfortable with who she is, she enjoys the silence and doesn’t think an operation will help her think differently. But, we later see Abby questioning her decision after reading a news article about the new procedure.
With Pilar’s help, Michelle takes Danny out of the hospital and hides him at the lighthouse so Carmen can’t get to him. Michelle takes care of him and tries to get him to remember what happened. They kiss, but Carmen shows up and starts knocking on the door. They open the door and Carmen lays into Michelle, but Danny says he’s starting to remember why he had to go back to Michelle that night of his crash. Carmen calls Dietz to help her get Danny back to the hospital and he finally flashes back and remembers what happened, saying she was planning on killing Michelle. Carmen denies it, but they don’t believe her and Michelle says she and Danny are meant to be together and that’s final. Carmen says if that’s true, why did he sleep with Drew (something she easily coerced out of Drew earlier). Michelle is shocked and Danny is livid. He tells Carmen he will never love her again and kicks her out of the lighthouse, leaving her devastated and crying. Michelle forces Danny to tell her why they slept together and he was truthful, but she’s still hurt. He tells her Jesse already knows, which makes her more angry given she’s the last to know, and she tells Danny that she’ll never forgive him for this. He tells Michelle that he really wants her and begs her to reconsider their relationship. She says she was capable of not sleeping with Jesse because she wanted to be with Danny, but Danny couldn’t do the same and be faithful to her, so she feels the marriage meant more to her than Danny.
Pilar and Bill continue their flirtation at Millennium (*yawn*), talking about each other’s interests. Pilar says she likes Bill and he kisses her just as Carmen walks in. Feeling like she’s lost both of her living children now, she walks out without saying a word.
Fletcher and Meg visit Holly one more time and Holly convinces him to leave SF again and let Meg thrive in school. Fletcher confirms he has moved on from Kate and we have a tearful goodbye amongst the three of them, with Fletcher saying ‘goodbye, Red’ (5/07). I guess Jay Hammer never intended to stay for a long period of time, but at least he finally did come back and there was some much-needed closure for Holly/Fletcher/Meg. Now I’m curious to see how this turns out for Holly and where she goes from here.
