I think an issue I’m having with the show right now is that the stakes to all these stories feel so muted. The pacing moves fast, yes, but the stories don’t feel gripping or as if we’re building to something interestingly explosive.

The stories need more fire, for the lack of a better word. I want to see if this continues as we approach the 6 month mark, or if they’ll use that as an opportunity to pivot some things.

Ding ding ding ding!!

We have a winner!!😉😁😊

Do you think it's because so many of the stories play on past history that we didn't get to see play out?

I personally don't think it's that.

Alright, that's fair.

I am majorly intrigued by Martin's story. I love how it looks like Smitty is going to uncover it all through his work. I honestly have no clue what the secret is.

We got a mention of Tomas having a younger brother named, Ramon. I wonder if we'll meet him anytime soon.

Also, I can't figure out June's deal either. Lots of unanswered questions and a lot of speculation on my part. But still very invested overall.

Ramón isn't a member of Tomas' family.   Tomas volunteers for Big Brothers.   Ramón is the boy that he mentors through that program.

May 27, Episode 60 - Kat/Tomas conversation

[Kat looks through Tomas' social media, and notes that has only two posts.  Kat asks Tomas about a boy in a photo.]

Kat:  Oh, and who's that adorable little boy?

Tomas: I've been working with the Big Brother program for the last five years. Ramón is... he's growing up without a father figure. That kind of breaks my heart, you know? So I try to do what I can to help.

Kat: Wow. That is really great, Tomas.

Tomas: It's probably why I wish you could be a little nicer to Eva. When you grow up missing pieces and people in your life, it leaves scars. I see that in Eva. And I wish someone had been there for her the way I am for Ramón.

That's right. Thanks for the clarification.

It's strange, other than Anita/Vernon/Nicole/Dani, none of these people seem truly connected. Revelation after revelation doesn't bond characters, those smaller moments do. One of the cornerstones of this show should've been the friendship (or loss thereof) of Naomi and Hayley. Instead, if you hadn't heard Naomi complain about it those first few weeks, you'd never have known they were friends.

I don't know how but

Spoiler
Spoiler

c'mon...we know June is actually the dead Articulette, don't we? That's why she gravitated to the Jess/Duncan/Bonnie story and Nicole said "I always thought that Jessica looked like Mom". It wasn't just some cute shout out to ATWT. I don't know how they'll justify it, but I'm pretty sure that's where this is headed.

Has it ever been said that Kat was waiting for a ring before giving up the goodies?

I really hope that BtG doesn't go the prized virgin heroine becomes a rape victim route with Kat like Y&R did with Cricket and B&B did with Caroline. At least As the World Turns didn't have Lily raped, but Lily rushed into her first time and I also hope Kat doesn't rush into her first time.

Hmmmm I want to say they discussed it, but I think it's more Kat waiting for the one vs a ring.

Please no rape. Now a random hook up maybe.

I think so, too.  Also, Kat is wary of getting hurt, which isn't really explained specifically so maybe it's just a fear that all humans have.

I think the Dani/Bill/Hayley/Naomi/Chelsea situation has potential.. but it isn't giving 100 % because we're seeing the aftereffects of the story without seeing the build up nor climax.

Going back to old school B & B, it would be like the show debuting right before Brooke/Eric were about to walk down the aisle without seeing the almost 4 years of backstory that lead to this moment.

Just based on the few flashbacks we've gotten... Bill/Dani seemed to have a good rapport... Bill had a close relationship with Chelsea, etc.   What we haven't gotten in flashback form is Bill/Hayley nor Hayley/Naomi.

Contrast that with the Nicole/Ted/Eva/Kat/Silk Press Sheila story.   While there was a lot of backstory/history to it... the show started the story off in the right place with Silk Press Sheila catching sight of Ted and start to form her plan in the first week of the show.   The problem with the story has been the recasting of Ted.. which happened what after the anniversary party so we never saw NuTed and Nicole in a happy relationship in order to root for them to get back together.

I view it as observing what happened to her aunt Dani.. and now what she's seeing her mother going through that has made her even more caution/fearful.

Good point.  The flowers this past week were not enough.  I do like that Ted is respecting Nicole's space.  But I would like to see Ted reach out to her with things *SHE* likes, her interests, hobbies, music, and maybe even political or cultural interests, to shows that he "sees" her.

I don't want to see *only* the stereotypical portrayal of a person exuding so much charm that just sweeps their lover off their feet.
To clarify:   of course we want to see his charm!
But I want to see Ted as an educated man who respects Nicole's own agency, because I think *that* is what will win her over.  And that would show them as a true rootworthy couple.

There's potential, but I think the writers decided they needed to hook the viewers with these revelations, and they just feel empty because there's no real connection to the history. Sure, maybe Dani really loved Bill back in the day, but where they are now is just toxic. Like you said, it's like walking into a show years in and expecting to understand how this impacts everyone.

The only plot for me that's seemed to grow organically is Joey/Vanessa/Doug, which just got a little more interesting with Vanessa flipping the script on Joey to get Doug out from under Joey's thumb, but also clearly falling for Joey.

Naomi felt betrayed when her former best friend Hayley hurt her mother Dani via the affair with Bill.

Naomi's current best friend is Ashley.  If Ashley sleeps with Dani's boyfriend Andre, that would be another "BFF" hurting her mother.  Or another man hurting Dani with one of Naomi's friends.

I mean I certainly don't want Ashley/Andre!  No way no how.  Just saying that's it's interesting that Dani's men seem attracted to Naomi's friends.

I was thinking of this and then automatically said aloud to myself
"But what about Naomi? !"
(reference to the soapopera spoof "Love of Chair" on The Electric Company.)
