DAYS: May 2025 Discussion Thread

So I couldn’t resist and skipped ahead to Monday of this week.

Just wow. One of the best most emotional episodes I’ve ever seen of Days. All of the actors truly brought it.

Marlena in the chapel is what almost broke me. Also loved the slow cinematography going around the candles. When the show tries, even with budget constraints it can still look interesting. I wish the show did have some sort of filter though to counterbalance the HD cameras used now.

Xander being a villain again works perfectly for me. Loved those scenes with him vs Maggie who has always given Xander a million passes.

Paul talking about the other kids and then the flashback to pride

Honestly I loved allll of the flashbacks used for Monday. Even the Devil storyline was referenced but actually seriously.

Days proved on Monday what an absolutely underrated cast they have.

Why did Ari call the Brady Pub one of her family’s favorite places when literally it’s her family’s establishment. Her great grandpa Roman literally runs it.

Also it’s a little creepy that D3 is only interested in high school chicks when I’m sure he’s in his 20’s at this point, at least legal age.

Javi’s nipples could’ve cut glass when he got back to the Hernandez home.

I liked all of John’s grand and great grands learning of the news in this episode as their stories were going on. Would’ve liked to actually see the scenes with them by John’s bedside.

Today was a really long one. 49 minutes.

But, welcome back, Carrie! I wish it were under better circumstances though.

Her scenes with John and Marlena were the best part of today. It was almost like Christie Clark had never left. I’m so glad that she was brought back for John’s tribute. Carrie always had such a great relationship with each of them and both were on full display today. I did tear up a little bit when Marlena told Carrie that she was also her and John’s daughter as well. And when John reacted to Carrie touching his hand. The lengthy flashback was really nice too. And I agree Carrie, despite being a super spy, John was always best at being a Dad. And, now we know that Noah is the same age as Tate, Holly and Arianna.

And I still think we should have seen Johnny visiting John, but I enjoyed his scenes with Roman. I liked the conversation and that they had. The encouragement that Roman gave him was the one thing that Johnny needed. I’m really glad that the writers have put such on a strong emphasis on their relationship. In some ways, it also plays into the way that they’ve moved Johnny/Chanel to the frontburner, which is exactly where they should be. The mystery of Roman’s gun and the lockbox was pretty interesting as well. I still don’t think Johnny’s the shooter though

I was a little surprised that Kristen was included in John’s storyline as well. Even though it isn’t ED playing it, I thought Stacy did pretty well actually. And she also did well when she broke the news to Rachel.

Btw, @janea4old, I see that Abe was wearing purple too.

And he was used very well today with Kate and with John. Much, much better than the last time he was used with Kate

His scene with John was another tearjerker too.

The eventuality that viewers will see John's memorial service wouldn't be a spoiler since we all know that Drake passed.
(The specific airdate and attendees of the memorial service would be a spoiler, so I wouldn't post that here even if I knew, which I don't.)

A lot of this stuff (Bo's illness, John's death, the memorial service, and other family stuff) would have been filmed fairly close together (not sure of the timespan) due to the availability of guest actors.
All we know is that they finished filming some of that sequence just a few days before Drake passed away.

Most of actors didn't know Drake's death was coming so soon, (The family kept it under wraps) but some of them were told that his condition was not recoverable and that he would pass at some point.

Obviously the onscreen tears are real.  We aren't just seeing the characters crying.  We're seeing the actors' real grief.

I haven't watched today's episode yet. Not sure how I'll get through it.

I get the concept of returning Muldoon to the role of Austin, but it was BAD! So, so bad. Sounded like he'd smoked one too many menthol cigarettes in recent years, and his acting was as dry as the Sahara desert.

I mean, just look how much prettier Clark looks with Austin Peck in comparison to Muldoon.

That's a very good point.  And Ford/Cwikly could have reasonably decided that it would be plausible for Etna to have another eruption, even a small one, months later when this would air.
How else would they explain Alison Sweeney not airing this week.
The only thing to make Hurricane Sami late... is a volcano.

    • Well explained or not, she looks stupid given what he’s done to her family.
    • Dani's wishful thinking might end up being right. Something seems off about Hayley claiming she's pregnant (again) and Bill's health issues might reveal that he's sterile. Leslie becomes crazy every time it seems she can't get more insane. NuTed treats her as an annoyance where as the old one loathed her and that's a noticeable difference.
    • I would argue that the EJ/Belle pairing has been well explained. Shawn left Belle feeling vulnerable, and unloved, because she has a savior complex and he is healing his addiction on his own.  EJ makes her feel needed, he appreciates her legal mind, and they have good physical chemistry.   To me, the scene that solidified the relationship was when she tried to break up with him, and he said that he refused to absolve of her guilt. It really explained all that we needed to know about that dynamic.  And, despite my frequent pokes at Belle, it showed that she has gone into this relationship with her eyes wide open.  She is not being conned, nor is she using him as a rebound.  She is genuinely attracted to him, and she can't shake the feeling. And, TBH, you don't want soaps to go back to being morality plays, where the audience is treated as if they only understand moral absolutism, and can't appreciate shade of gray.
    • Dante, FTW! It's about time someone finally ripped Lulu a new one. She's been insufferable these past weeks and I'm glad that someone finally called her out on it. But Dante blaming Lulu for Gio wanting nothing to do with him was a bit of a stretch though. That's all on you, bro. Btw, did Olivia seriously blame herself for Sonny shooting Dante??

Gio and Emma were really sweet though. I love how she was there for him. She's definitely the friend that he needs right now. Hopefully, they get to share their first kiss soon  And agreed, that Rory Gibson is doing a good job. He doesn't seem to be blowing as much hot air as (Sorry, Chad) Chad Duell used to do sometimes. I do think that Michael still seems to be a bit of a bitch when it comes to how he's dealing with Sasha and the baby but that's on the writing, not Rory. And I really, really hope that he directs some of this anger at Sonny too. And yeah, with the way Drew was speaking to Willow in the car today... maybe that rumor is true
    • I never wanted Gio to be Dante and BLQ's kid. I made that clear many months ago, and I still don't. I think this show regularly leans on insta-kids and baby storylines that age up viable performers (DZ, Setton, etc.) too much to pad out months of the show every year, and leave it more incestuous. I think it's very lazy. That said, good drama is good drama and good performances are good performances. I'm not going to begrudge GH for doing good work with this material when I see good work on air. I haven't watched all of it yet but I do think GM has done very good work as have the vets. I had a feeling early on after his hiring that his charisma and appeal could carry him far if they wrote for him - several of us noted his joy in carrying a lot of throwaway domestic scenes with the Qs - and they are now doing that. I don't particularly want or need him to be Dante's large adult son but I think for someone who is a musician first he's become another of the soap opera (and particularly GH) success stories in this arena. And I care about Gio and what happens to him, while also thinking he has real chemistry with the smart and unconventionally spiky Emma they've cast (though he also could with Trina and y'know, some cute boys). I just wish the show was consistently good enough to give these actors better story. It's 2025 and GH is still on the air. We all take our victories where we can get them day to day.
    • But the ABC and NBC shows don't seem to be as affected as the CBS shows.
    • That makes more sense. I know the show had laid groundwork with Beth and Edmund for a while, but that was not enough to make me find her behavior any less pathetic and damaging. Josh/Olivia were the same way - in spite of the horrible start with her suicide attempt. At least they did always remain friendly, IIRC, which was another reminder of GL not being like many other soaps.

    • I always assumed Princess Beth was actually Lorelei pretending to be Beth.  That's the only thing that I figured was the case back then.. that Beth had a split personality and was covering it very well. Reva/Noah were a decent pairing.. but at the time, I just assumed that they were a pit stop until Josh and Reva tried yet again to reunite for the millioneth time.
    • Belle is ridiculous dating the man that tried to kill her dad multiple times. This EJ story just makes Belle look like a damn fool. We’re not supposed to root for them are we? I’m so glad Brady went off.
