GH is down 286,000 viewers from last year and is significantly down in all other categories.

How is Frank Valentini still the executive producer of this soap with all these significant losses in numbers from last year?

The fact that so many people still watch Bold in it's current condition compared to last year... Boggles my mind to undescribable extend.

Bradley Bell will never change. People still buy the rotten tomatoes he is selling. So he will continue selling them.

BTG fell a bit in total viewers because of the inflated premiere, but held steady in the important demographics so that's good. Hopefully it can stay stable and maybe even grow from here.

Two sides of the same coin.

@TEdgeofNightBTG is doing fine 2 weeks in. In W18-49/W25-54 it had holds of 96%/100%. It had better retention of its lead-in in week 2 as well. Not sure how much more you can expect for a new soap launch in 2 weeks.

@dragonflies Your avatar is literally of a B&B scene that aired this week.

Didn’t the demographics of premiere week show a much larger percentage of Black viewers compared to Y&R and B&B? I think the show has some audience that the other shows do not, and we are only in week two. If they can build on the people that watch that are not watching the CBS lineup, they will be doing fine. I have wondered about the logic of an hour, but that’s what TPTB wanted.

What kills me about GH is that Mulcahey and several bts changes were done because the numbers had dropped. Look at those numbers- way worse. And yet Frank survived. He lost some power, Howarth, Easton, and JPS were finally pushed out (although Valentin has popped up). But he got to get rid of Kelly and bring on his preferred writing team. So the network is still working with what he wants. I think he would be out if they had a credible replacement. And before BTG arrived the mode of thinking was attrition with soaps, not development.

The numbers also fell during Mulcahey, so they may have had second thoughts (maybe if he hadn't been sabotaged things would have been different). I just hope ABC won't decide no changes will help and pull the plug, because they really haven't tried half as much as they could have.

I think the obvious BTS logjam and inertia during Mulcahey's run (for whatever reason - it felt very stop/start and like a power struggle over what to do/cut, so instead half the show just ran in place and played musical jobs) that precipitated the ratings drop spooked the network into doing everything Frank's way, including rehiring his pets. It's so shortsighted.

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
