“General Hospital” has cast daytime newcomer Adrian Anchondo to portray the contract role of Marco, a lawyer with a mysterious past, beginning with the Thursday, March 13 episode of the ABC daytime drama series.

In an interview with TV Insider, Anchondo revealed that he had been in the running to play the newly created character for a few months, competing against several others vying for the role, before ultimately getting a call to return to the show’s studio four weeks later to meet with producers.

“It was very intimidating seeing all the beautiful Latino men there I was going up against, all younger,” he said of the experience. “But I really connected with the character, and I feel like I’ve been playing a lot of good guys going bad or bad guys going good, so I think this character is in my wheelhouse.”

With a screen test opposite Van Hansis, who has played Lucas Jones in a recurring capacity on the soap since October 2024, Anchondo at least gets to work opposite someone he’s familiar with, as the two previously met 20 years prior at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

“I think we did a play with each other. It’s funny because I remember having a little crush on him back then, and we’ve been in the same circles because we have mutual friends,” Anchondo noted to TV Insider. “So, I felt totally comfortable. Van has a very comfortable person to be around, regardless if you’ve known him for 20 years or not.”

“The character has been very sweet and charming, and, of course, it wouldn’t be a soap opera without dark secrets somewhere,” the actor teases of his character. “He’s also very intelligent and very articulate, which is kind of opposite of who I am as a person. I don’t find myself to be the most articulate person [laughs]. I don’t think I’ve ever played a lawyer. I’ve definitely been on the other end from Viola Davis grilling me on ‘How to Get Away with Murder,’ so that’ll take getting used to. Van was like, ‘I gotta play a doctor on here, and there’s so many things about the human body that I’m just learning,’ so I’m like, ‘If he can do it, I think I can handle the legal stuff.’”

In addition to “How to Get Away with Murder,” Anchondo’s credits include roles on such shows as “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The Rookie,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” and “Rebel,” among others.

In an Instagram story, Anchondo said, “I can finally share the good news.” His younger brother, David, also posted an Instagram story in response to the news, saying, “My big brother did it! I’m so, so proud of him.”

I'm seriously considering notifying the team at A&E's "Hoarders" to go down to the Prospect Studios and do an intervention on Frank Valentini, because that man is clearly in the throes of a hoarding disorder (except, instead of hoarding objects, he's hoarding actors).
