I think Trisha Mann-Grant is a great actress.

But I personally don't want to see a villain all the time.  I can take villains in small doses.  Just because an actor is talented, doesn't mean their character should become on the show all the time.  I hated that when it happend with Sheila Carter and Kristen Blake DiMera.
I just personally cannot stan a villain character.  I just cannot.

I can still admire the actor, and want her to win an Emmy, but I don't want the villain to be around long term.

I have no issues with a multi layered antagonist being on for a while. Or even dominating storylines. Absolutely no issue. Of course that can't be forever.

Another case it will be if it was a badly written cartoon like modern day Sheila Carter. She is a lost cause.

No worries. It now gives me something to look for when I start my rewatch.

Hahahahaha!!! Not me seeing this as I get to the scene with Vanessa's OTHER black chocolate who according to online fans is Tommy from All the Queen's Men...a show I need to finish binging for the chocolate and Eva the Diva.

Three weeks of Beyond the Gates and my thoughts so far:

Andre/Dani

Sean Freeman (Andre) is the show's hotness.

Tricia Mann-Grant (Leslie aka Silk Press Sheila) is the show's breakout star.

I agree. When I definitely love my villains more than they can weave in and out of story because you know when they do show up, there are going to be serious stakes. Yes, I'm looking at you, Mama Pope. lol.

It's why I liked when Kristen Blake first came back in 2014. Those first few years, she was weaved in and out of storyline with major results. It's almost sad now that she's permanently on the canvas because she had to be watered down or not taken as seriously as they could and should be due to her history. I would hate to see that happen with Silk Press Sheila. And I would hate to see intelligent characters dumbed down just to keep her though I now adore the actress.

I feel exactly the same about Stefano DiMera.  Should have been occasional villain recurring very sporadically.  A storyline arc, and then gone for a few years.  Not having lunch at the Brady Pub.  Mascolo was a great actor, but I thought his character was way overused and then inappropriately normalized to the canvas.   Stefano hated his children. It's stupid that even now they talk to his picture. Awful writing.

I never saw whatever show Roger Thorpe was on (yes I know famous but I never watched it).

Agree. Especially with Tricia. She has officially hit my ED's Kristen sweet spot and you know how much I love Eileen Davidson.

Completely agree. I can still think of the times when he would vanish and reappear and JM did such a great job...Teenage Me knew to be filled with dread and excited. Heck, he even got his own promos when every time he returned.  And I hated him being watered down as well. Or anyone NOT Victor thinking they could take him down.

We've only had couple of weeks of episodes. I'm sure Silkpress won't be on all the time. MVJ will know how to ration her best so she is kept fresh.

So far I haven't felt her character being too much on. I've felt that with Dani... But not with Silk... Maybe because she is not only a villain... But kinda funny too. She just doesn't drag at all. For now.

That's just my POV.

I prefer seeing Silkpress and amazing acting... Than watching Martin struggle with the material in every scene. Or the boring Derek and Ashley.

But... I also want to see more Anita. Please.

Not all soap villains are created equal. Roger Thorpe, Iris Carrington, Damian Smith, Alex Olanov, even the earlier Kristen Blake, etc. are not the same as Sheila Carter, Stefano DiMera or the later Kristen or James Stenbeck.

If care is taken with what Dana gets up to or commits, or she gets some rehabilitation, she can run on contract for a long time.

Agree with others that Episode 14 has been the best written and directed of all, thus far. Phideau's directing was great.  Tate's dialogue was also great as was the pacing of Dunn's outline.

Bill and Ted should have been brothers; think of the years of story (back story too).

Nice twist at the end re Eva...

The flashbacks and fantasy sequences reminded me of Jim Reilly and Bill Bell style. Other episodes feel like The City or Ron's OLTL.  I like the former although not too many flashbacks please.

    • As much as I love Zaslow, did Roger ever really have a conscience?  I know the Dinah/Hart plot grew distasteful, but Roger had run rampant in Springfield since his return. I was ok with him finally getting a taste of his own medicine, so to speak.

    • What a miracle to have all these 1973 dates for Y&R and the other soaps!! You are truly a godsend my friend and I can never thank you enough!!
    • 5-27   Mixed bag! lol.   In the designer department I can feel JM rolling his eyes at being in anything related to a suit, but she did go for comfort with Nick. And I felt it worked. And I liked what Nikki had on. And what Lily had on was something different for her, but she looked great in purple just as Amanda looked superb in white.   I could care less about the 'drama' between Adam and Chelesa. It's not even Chelesa's first time dealing with Victor's controlling ways. So my finger found the FF buttons quick.   Victor and Michael on the outs. Same ole, same ole. Not bored with it, but same ole. They could use Michael and Lauren for so much more. And Michael must have quit in one of those episodes I missed.   The highlight was easily Lily vs Phyllis. I don't know who wrote that, but THANK YOU. Lily was feeling her mama, and I loved every minute of that moment. I was just sad that the Dumas plot...and Amanda's role in it this episode...was clear C plot.
    • FROM THE VAULT: WEEKLY DAYTIME NIELSEN RATINGS: WEEKS OF 12/10/73-12/14/73 & 12/17/73-12/21/73:

FAST WEEKLY WEEK OF 12/24/73-12/28/73 NOT AVAILABLE (Note: Per newspaper listings, the only scheduled preemptions were 12/25/73 for Dinah's Place and Baffle (preempted by Christmas Service from Washington National Cathedral). All other daytime shows were scheduled to air every day this week). That's a wrap for 1973!  Coming next are the 1973 specials, the spot checks of the 1973 non-soap daytime shows and a look at the 1973 Saturday & Sunday morning/afternoon series.
    • KMH was annoying AF as Emily or as I call her "Emiloon" that screech crying yikes, so bad
    • spoiler alert AMC...   Ha..this is one of those storylines, much like the Salem Stalker...and whatever Alex was supposed to be holding over Alan's head that Henry knew about...what was the original intention of the through line..who is Mary Bauer and why does Meta know Zach (I know what Zach is supposed to be but was he human before...is Chele a reincarnation of Mary? )Eventually was he supposed to become human? Why is he so dull if he who is supposed to be...but it does make sense on why he is so sexless.  Of course, what the hell was the burial ground storyline of Qualo..it was like they were trying to reenact the 80s with that  temple storyline Marland gave them...would have been more interesting to have Stacy come back with "return from the dead" Silas Crocker in disguise as an older lover.  McTavish is at loose threads here and you can tell she just does not give a damn anymore.  A great idea is hidden in the whole Roger/Dinah/Hart mess....Roger having a midlife crisis and breakdown would have been good...being confronted with all of his misdeeds, the two rapes, and also his murders (the show always likes to forget that he pushed a woman down the stairs and had to have killed people in the CIA.) Maybe something he does accidentally causes Holly to miscarry, and then he does something again accidnetly to hurt Hart so he thinks he killed him.

    • OMG! Not Lily vs Phyllis with Amanda giving the sip tea look!  The Dru came out in Lily!!! lol.
    • I remember, for their wedding, TPTB pulled out the old Stewart patio which had not been seen for years (and was not seen again). But during the 1960s, Ellen and David's patio was seen somewhat often during the summer months.
