TBF, Nicole seems to already be over it so it looks like we'll get other characters reacting to her being ridiculous. I think that's what's missing on soaps these days.

Im looking forward to it and I peeped how she can find her sister exhausting

Okay, cool. Yeah, that's already been confirmed since the character breakdowns and announcements for casting. I thought we were thinking Martin's son was the one y'all were talking about since it said "politician's son."

In that case, current politician Martin is the grandson of former politician Vernon, not his son.

I hadn't even thought about Martin in regards to the "politician's son" because we hadn't seen the son yet. Haha. I was thinking, Vernon! Unless the user was referring to Martin's son with Smitty, and I misunderstood.

So now we're officially two hours past the show's conclusion on the East Coast, and yet again, it is STILL trending at #2 on Twitter/X:

@Cheap21, this show has so many interesting female characters. I feel as though this Friday might merit a return of an old tradition…👀👀 only if the spirit moves you, though.

Wow, now THIS takes me back. The first episode alone was packed with 'dos.

Beyond the Gates is #1 on Paramount Plus's "Top Searches" page.

It's beating 1923, Yellowjackets, School Spirits, and Sonic the Hedgehog, lol.

Please, for anyone who might be even a little bit disappointed in the first episode, remember it's day one, episode one. Exposition is necessary when establishing a new series, particularly with its first episode. In primetime, this is called a pilot. I URGE everyone who might be skeptical to at least give the show all five days before passing judgment or critique, both good and bad.

For me, watching all the episodes as a binge/marathon had me thoroughly invested and waiting for what's next. If that's something you think might work for you, I highly suggest that method as well. Either way, don't call it a failure or trash it based on one episode.

To be clear, I'm not saying the episode itself is bad. I'm just saying before you judge it give it a chance beyond episodes one, two, or even three.

For reference, Michele Val Jean herself wrote all five of the show's first episodes. We'll see next week if someone who got to write the first episodes after her.

Thank you for this.  The exposition was a lot, but I know MVJ of all writers can pen beautiful dialogue.  If she's choosing to prioritize certain things for the premiere, I can live with that.  Pilots are rough, even in other genres that are introducing a fraction of this many characters, and unless I'm blanking this still makes for only a handful of pilots episodes of hourlong daytime soaps (along with Texas, the SBs, and Passions).  None of those shows lasted a decade, so I guess you could say there is no successful template.

I care about the characters, the core actors are doing good work, and I want to see what happens next.  That's a success in my book.

Hello chiming in. Sigh! I do not think that this first episode was quite worth the wait. But I won't give up. I can't give up. Karla Mosley was really overacting and it came off as fake. Did most of the scenes seem really short to anyone, like they were abruptly clipped? Ashley and Derek, I'm sorry, did nothing for me, and I guess Andre shall live up to his playboy status no matter what, flirting with Ashley and trying to get into her scrubs. What happened to Grand Dames finger snap? I didn't see it.

Yeah, watching on Paramount+ right now and I totally understand why they swapped the opening for the first episode from the one I saw (Soaps.com also posted what I saw originally). This opening makes more sense since only Mike Manning doesn't appear in the first episode while the other characters do.

20 minutes in on the West Coast...and loving it. Loving the layers I'm seeing. The possibilities in the dynamics. I can see why it was mentioned that Dani would be divisive. Not a complete saint, but still rootable.

And it's the little things that I am really liking. Little things that other soaps do, but BTG is already doing better from the exposition dialogue to little side nuggets.
