Some of those shots and transitions today were so odd, especially in the scenes with Martin and Vernon.

Also, the actor that plays Martin delivers his lines like he's narrating an educational video or something. It felt so disconnected from the scene.

Daphnée is impeccable.

The dialogue in some instances was doing too much and on the other hand some of it was really good.

The hospital stuff was just awkward.

I wish there was a bit more movement. It felt a little stagnant. Hopefully other storylines will begin to take shape.

I'm excited to see how this goes. It's exciting to have a new soap to dive into and I know it takes time to get things running smoothly.

I think we have to still remember: they're going to be testing things out, and unlike the other four soaps, they don't have to stick to doing it a certain way. I mean, in the scenes with Anita & Dani in Dani's home set, we had the standard views and then one additional one we've not really seen, and it was fantastic. They have a blank canvas of not having to worry about "Oh, our audiences won't accept this change." They're more so thinking about making sure they're going to be on-air and can establish what their own standard is.

Yes, there are things we [may] view as "odd" or "wrong" or "different" but, for Beyond the Gates, it may be what they want to establish for themselves.

Let's remember that there has been emphasis on Nicole's perfect marriage and emphasis almost always equals there are some hidden cracks. Ted is probably not so perfect and Leslie is probably a part of that imperfection. He either had an affair with her or botched up and killed Eva's father or someone else close to her.

I know it was mentioned yesterday that you need those medicals who get mixed up in the drama and given who she's friends with and who your close friend is...I so see Ms. Ash getting a bit of story at some point.

Haha. I didn't even think of that.

Well tbf this Bill AND that Bill are powerful men and attractive so...

I feel that way as well.

I thought the same at several points in today's episode. Like Coronation Street. I think the show is underscored and could use more background music.

Yes, I'm noting this with some of the sets - they're sterile and cavernous. Compare some of these sets to the Newman Ranch on Y&R and it's clear that they've leaned into contemporary style and furnishings and looks bland.

Others, however, like Bill's office, are full of texture and interesting camera angles.

The look of the show reminds me of AMC or GH. A bit on the generic side and definitely overly lit.

Agree with all of what you've said. It's the first week, so of course there are issues to be worked out. I do find some of the dialog to be incredibly clunky - clunkier than I would have expected, but it's also unusual to have this much exposition.

Daphnee is wonderful. She should have been on another soap after OLTL. She is wonderful.

It must be so freeing (and maybe a little daunting) for MVJ to have a blank canvas to work with.

No Sonny, Victor etc who have done everything but still have to seen 3 times a week.

Or having no room on the canvas to introduce new characters,.

I wonder how far ahead the show has been plotted? Obviously things change when the actual writing takes place. But I'm sure she is smart enough to have a lot of possibilities waiting to be brought into play.

Mainstream reviews I have read are favorable. Let's hope the initial numbers are strong.

If the Dupree family is at the heart of this show and it's expected to last for decades—10, 20, even 30 years—someone must continue the Dupree name. But with only two daughters, how is that possible? There must be a long-lost son out there.

    • I never understood the point of Marchetti. Summer left the show for a job there in Italy. OK. When she returned they had Jack buy the company. Why couldn't Summer have returned and simply stated it was not a good fit, she missed her home , family/friends etc It was absurd that this internationally successful fashion empire could just be bought by a US cosmetics firm at the drop of a hat. What was the point when they never did anything with it at all? Summer simply could have gone to work at Jabot. And wasn't there some nonsense about an offshhoot called Marchetti Home? Was Phyllis attached to that at some point? This show...

    • Haven't seen today's ep yet but so will be interested to see the clothes. So far I think they have been very character specific (even if I don't like some of them eg Kat's cutsie style) Anita is very showy/glittery, Nicole classic elegance, Dani sexy/bold colors etc. Unlike Y&R which seems much more generic. Also BTG pays attention to the men's wardrobe and has developed a style for the boyz-which is harder to do with male fashion. The absence of any of Derek/Ashley at any of these big events again demonstrates how they are in a different universe to the rest of the show. Not that a nurse and a fireman would be there but still they seem destined at this point to stay in their own lane and have little interaction with the core of the show.
    • Agnes had written for Bernard Grant for many years on TGL as well as Ernest Graves and Joe Gallison,Doris Belack,Robert Milli, and  Antony Ponzini at AW. So she would probably gravitate to writing a role with an actor in mind or choosing someone she had written for before who she knew could deliver.
    • Once Johnny Dallas' cut himself off from Laurie Ann Karr and their son, and once Laurie successfully recovered from her mental problems, she wanted a new, fresh, and healthy start for the next chapter of her life. She legally reverted her name and changed John Victor's  surname to Karr. After moving to the country (when Teri  Keane was dropped from the show), Bill and Martha Marceau legally adopted Jennifer, the baby girl whom they had earlier taken in when the child's biological mother, Taffy Simms (and other bio family members) proved to be unfit to raise her. Jennifer legally and emotionally became a Marceau, and gave that name to her own daughter, whom Jennifer birthed through surrogacy as a single parent. Et...voila! The Karr and Marceau legacies live on.

    • BLQ is having second thoughts regarding putting her baby up for adoption. Chase is upset he can't tell Dante. So both are putting this on at lulus feet. Saying she is holding it over them. Lulu is doing none of this.
    • Yes she absolutely was involved in that story which seems to have gone nowhere.  She didn't start to remove herself from the writing until 1973.
    • Y'all are bringing back great memories of AMC 2.0 for me.  I haven't thought about it and the new characters in so long, well since it aired, and I plan to go re-watch it now. When AMC ended, I finally came to peace with it and accepted that I will never watch an hour of a TV show daily in my life again... something that I had been doing since I was 6-7 years old. I was starting a new career, relationship, and chapter in life when AMC 2.0 came out.  I found a way to watch it, but things felt differently for me at the time and when it was so short-lived and gone, it became such a distant memory, sadly.
