DAYS: February 2025 Discussion Thread

To be fair, they gave her a lot of clunky dialogue on her first day.

She had to convince Amy to allow the adoption, and assure her that the baby is going to a good Christian home. Amy's capitulation after weeks of demanding that Sophia get married felt completely unmotivated. So, Sophia just looked dumb.

But, I was amused by how bratty Chanel and Johnny are written.  They see a baby and just say, “I want that” and everyone bends to their desires.  I mean, all of their friends are out of a job, and they're eating breakfast in bed (that they don't need to clean up).  I look forward to next week when Johnny admires Abe's sweater and Paulina makes him give it to his son-in-law.

They are truly the least deserving golden couple.  Can't have a baby? Here's one.  You like to bake?  Here's a business.  Need a job? We'll move filming to Salem so that you can still live in your Dad's mansion.  Need some cash?  EJ's just giving it away.  It is as if they face zero conflicts in life that can't be solved immediately.

Race, the fact that her mother and his father have been feuding for the better part of a year, Chanel having been with his sister, Johnny's lack of career... nothing is an issue for them for longer than two weeks.

How old is Doug-3 suppose to be?  Mid 20's at least?  Late 20's at most?   It's very skeevy that their teasing Doug-3 with Holly who is just 18 and STILL in high school.

I think we're supposed to see Doug 3 as younger than that and see Holly as older, making them closer in age.

I agree with you, though. The age gap is too obvious for the way they're written.

Yep to all of that. It's hard to believe what a fail their story has been. RC put a rootable couple together and has given them almost nothing. And no, "I want a baby" doesn't solve anything.

Doug 3 should interacting with the Chanel/Johnny age group, not with the literal high schoolers.  I just can't root for Doug/Holly when their teasing them like this.

Javi/Leo… Ugghhh

So, where do they go from here? They just become that typical annoying Ron couple that does nothing except be annoying? And again, writing them as contemporaries is not the way to go. If we’re stuck with them and if they’re gonna be written as a young couple, they should have the same kind of realistic young couple conflicts.

Btw, I see Ron’s anti-women attitude/mommy issues tried to make their way into the script again.

And, I also see Alex’s history is being rewritten again, though his scenes with Stephanie were ok. I really wish they hadn’t diminished Adrienne’s presence in Alex’s life just to make Stalex work as a couple.

Johnny/Chanel/Tate/Holly/Doug III was the best part of today, even though I still think that Johnny and Chanel possibly adopting the baby is stupid. They deserve a better story. Btw, I love how in so many episodes lately, people have been going on and on about how awful the Dimeras are, yet Johnny didn’t mention that once today or how it could affect him and Chanel adopting the baby

Kinda felt bad for Doug III though.

Should we not be creeped out that adult Doug3 is in love with a high school student?  They are actually cute, but he's of legal drinking age at least and it's a little strange.  It would get a side eye in real life for sure.

I know Days has never been great with social issues, but I don't understand why race doesn't play a bigger part in the adoption.  It would make more sense if Mrs. Choi wanted an Asian, Christian family to raise her grandchild and be more concerned about Johnny/Chanel being an interracial couple.  I mean, let's face it, there is pretty much no way Johnny/Chanel are going to pass the religion test here.  He was literally once possessed by the Devil and Chanel is sexually fluid.

We know both Johnny and Chanel are good people, but The Choi's are probably going to be a little weary of a couple on their second marriage together already and the fact Chanel once dated Johnny's twin sister.

All the talk about it lately is starting to make me side eye it a little

But I also admit, if Holly was 18 and in college, I wouldn't have a problem. Age gaps don't bother me but there's a big difference between 17/HS and 18/college.

It doesn't look awkward physically and I do like them together, but maybe they should just have Holly graduate before anything happens.  I did get a little weirded out that he was talking to a high school girl in lingerie for an extended period of time

What a boring episode. I did a lot of fast-forwarding. The only part I enjoyed was the Doug, Holly, and Tate scenes at the cabin.

The couples paired on days are pretty bad.

    • Its realistic for Dani and  true of how the character thinks and operates
    • Random takes: - What was even the point of that jeweler guy? Also—Dani was borderline harassing him. - I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I want Jacob and Kat to happen. I need something messy to completely dismantle the Duprees—and Katomas just isn’t cutting it.  - I officially can’t stand Jacob and his wife. Same goes for Anita and Vernon. - Hayley’s corset was just as ugly as it looked uncomfortable. - I genuinely don’t remember when or how Derek and Ashley reconciled—and I’m someone who didn’t even mind their storyline! LMAO. - Tuesday’s episode was a mess. - Dani finding out about Hayley’s pregnancy and immediately thinking, “She’s faking it”—huh?! What writer thought that was a realistic reaction? I get denial, but that leap was absurd. I agree the ‘Leslie Victorious’ moment was way OTT. But hey, at least I wasn’t yawning. The following episode, where she handed over her daughter’s last few belongings was much better. - I can’t with the constant back-and-forth between Orphey Gene’s and the Country Club. I forgot this was such a soap trope, but even back in my loyal viewer days (late ‘90s, early 2000s), it wasn’t this bad. While GH has a ton of beautiful sets, we’re stuck with the same three—and half of them are ugly. Also: it’s been way too long since we had a party, gala, or any kind of event. I know the Richardsons’ anniversary gala (back in late April) has had a big ripple effect, but I was kinda getting used to those large-scale episodes. Fingers crossed they don’t go with Guza.
    • The horrific comments execs and writers make when they justify rape storylines or keeping rapists as love interests is just so icky. I remember Ron Carlivati's comments about the reraping of Marty storyline on OLTL. Made my skin crawl.  No matter what you think of her, Susan Lucci could have demanded front burner storylines but she never did. She was happy to be part of an ensemble. I never got that vibe from Zimmer.  For me, Reva was just not a character I cared that much about after a certain point no matter how talented Zimmer is/was. I think Zimmer had a keener eye for what made a good storyline, but she was less willing to take a backseat if it meant someone else got to shine. I'm trying to recall if she ever mentions Michelle Forbes in her book--one of the few times the viewers did not care about Reva in a storyline. My sense is if she did, it was probably some backhanded remark about how she had to show Forbes the ropes.
    • GH was good? I havent watched since Joss went away to do her traininig and Lulu had just called Brooklyn out for having Dante's baby and not telling him

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of
