I guess this is your way of saying you don't have any appreciation for any of the directors at DAYS. Scott McKinsey, Beverlee's son, an Emmy winner, is one of the members of the directing team & I believe him to be a good director. David Shaughnessy is another good director at DAYS. (brother of Charles [Shane], father of Amy, husband of Anne Schotte.)

Not much happened today but there was some pretty good acting, especially between Gabi/JJ and Jack/Jennifer/Chad. I like the way that they’re building up the Gabi/JJ reunion. In some ways, it almost feels like another classic soap dilemma. And I did sort of like Jennifer’s plan for the time capsule, even though part of me is worried that this is actually just another classic Ron, “f*ck you” to the fans. I wonder what the strike writers were planning when they first came up with the idea of the time capsule.

And, welcome back Mark! We’ve missed you!

I really enjoyed the Greene family reunion. As much I disliked this Clyde crap, I do like the four of them as characters and the relationships that they have with each other. They’re believable as siblings.

And yeah, EJ is the worst DA ever. I can’t believe it took this long for someone to tell him that Mark can’t be charged in Salem for a crime that took place in Paris. But I was glad to see Belle in lawyer mode again. She wiped the floor with him, even though we really should have seen Tate asking her to help out the Greenes. To me, it just shows that Belle belongs on the canvas.

I’m looking forward to the EJelle reunion though and where they’re gonna go from here, especially since

If their storyline ends up being tied to other storylines and characters, like Shawn or Gabi and JJ, it could be a pretty good mess for everyone involved.

Btw, I thought it was hilarious when EJ was boasting to Mark about how you don’t cross the Dimera’s, yet Clyde is still alive.

I'm sure to some degree that this is true. I know that at GH they move at a pace that's been described as fast & furious. And, given how many episodes DAYS tapes in a week, the same has to be true of them. The last time Scott mentioned anything that was directing an actor was when he got Eric to make a jab instead of a roundhouse punch. So, a few years ago. I think it's the wrong thing to do, going so fast there's no time for acting & emoting & interpreting a scene.

I've been doing pretty well trying to ignore the presence of Melissa Reeves until today when that was busted wide open. So, today, for me, was not a good days, not at all. Far too much of her. It is what it is.

Now, this part of the show, I really could get into. Once again, I'm glad that Belle Black is back & roaring to go! And, I think it will be helpful for her to be in town when the inevitable happens with John Black.

And, yes, finally someone brought up there being no such thing as Salem having jurisdiction over something that happened in Paris, France. It was about dam*ed time.

I enjoyed the Roman and Shawn scene for the dialogue, but I still don't feel like this Roman is Shawn's uncle.  Beyond the marble mouth delivery, it just felt as if they had no shared history. I don't fault the actors, but IIRC Shawn usually went to his mother for advice, not Roman.

I mean, who's going to say that Shawn and Belle have broken up and remarried so often, that it's not a surprise that they divorced (again).  They've only been married this time for a couple of years.  It is hardly a big deal for anyone else in Salem.

Also, I enjoyed the line read when the judge asked Shawn how Philip could be his uncle, and Shawn just treated it like it was natural, since they grew up together.

OK, I'm a little lost.

JJ lives in Johannesburg with Claire?  I guess I got him mixed up with Joey, but I thought he lived in Portland (or Seattle?).

Why do they live there, and what business do they manage?  Is it the medical supply business from the novels about Salem?

I know it's mean, but if Cat used to look like Aaron, I'd say the plastic surgery was a glowup.

At least we know who's been taking care of Aaron and Felicity (a trusty under-five player).  Although, it's funny that Cat never thought to ask in the weeks that she's been back from Paris.

And, good to know DNA tampering isn't a crime in Salem.

Everyone from Sami to Caroline Brady's corpse is breathing a sigh of relief.  It left me wondering if anyone in the history of DOOL has ever been prosecuted for DNA or baby switching?

Congratulations Tate and Sophia, even though I think it’s too soon to bring a baby into this storyline.

There are a lot of holes in all this. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I am lol but wouldn’t Tate and Sophia have known if the condom broke? And, wouldn’t they also have known if Tate had done the, uh, thing, that actually makes the baby?

Hopefully, we get some answers tomorrow. Maybe Sophia is lying. Or maybe it’ll turn out that Aaron is the father. It did seem like he had more to say to Tate today. And maybe Aaron and Sophia did a lot more than just watch B&S together

But if Tate does turn out to be the father, personally I don’t think it’s right to give John a great grandchild and have him not be here to enjoy it. If anything, they should’ve waited until after John dies.

Julie’s scenes with JJ started off a little lousy but they improved over the course of the episode. I wouldn’t mind him also being weaved in to the necklace/Doug the III storyline. Plus, Susan Seaforth Hayes does work really well with him, and with the younger actors, in general.

But Holly’s scenes with Leo today

In what universe would a teenage girl talk about her relationship and its problems with a creepy old man who can’t grow up and who sexually assaulted half the men she knows? I mean, come on. If we’re forced to endure Leo, at least not make him creepy.

That’s one of the reasons why Javi is somewhat tolerable, even though he was a little annoying and Leo-like today. He’s young and supposed to be immature.

And btw, poor Doug the III.

    • The storyline April and Draper are involved in during the summer/autumn of 1979 seems fairly "benign" but soon turns very serious.  April has a VERY intrusive, wealthy mother (Margo Huntington Dorn).  Margo knows that April and Draper (who've recently had a miscarriage and are theoretically never going to be able to conceive another baby) want to buy a house.  Margo hoodwinks them into buying a house they can't afford.  The house is listed at $100,000 (about $400,000 in today's dollars).  Margo pays the first $35,000 and leads Draper to believe the asking price of the house is $65,000 instead of $100,000.  If Draper finds out his meddling mother-in-law paid 1/3 of the cost of the home and tricked him, he'll be mad as hell.   Meanwhile, Draper has received a job offer from a prestigious New York law firm.  Margo pulls some strings and has the senior partner in the firm rescind the offer, to keep April in Monticello.  If Draper finds out about THAT, he'll be even angrier with Margo than he will be about the house trickery.  All of that is "bubbling under the surface" in the fall of 1979 but will be the next major story, as everything begins to spiral out of control.
    • It felt weird and out of place.  I get. While I agree with those on here that he's gotten better, it's still really bad. I'm not seeing the "good" acting some see...but I'll give him a B for being better than when he first started. There's potential. I'll leave it at that.
    • It's like watching paint dry at a slow-ass pace. It's bad acting. Entirely. Excellent? With Claybon? Never. Ever.

    • Ah! Good to hear. Isn't it especially odd to think that house fictionally exists not far from the Karrs?  Or, that it was designed non-fictionally by the same person who designed April's place?
    • Good to know I'm not the only one who noticed that. Strange and awkward, and I don't know what they're doing with those fades.   -- Finally, had to laugh at how many Emmys this board passed out today.

    • Not unless they live in an apartment complex.

    • That was bad. Product placement is fine, but not here, not now. Besides, no one carries their damn detergent to the living room.   Completely and utterly disagree. I thought Brandon Claybon was excellent today -- maybe his best performance since the show started. No recast needed.   Not unpopular with me. That didn't work. The montage was good, but 5 minutes of Amazing Grace? With all those verses? No. What kind of family breaks into a loud version of Amazing Grace after what just happened??? None. Anita's lecture to Leslie was great. Ending the show -- a really good episode with crackling dialogue -- like that was a mistake.
    • Today, was a fantastic episode. I loved everything about, including Ainta singing, Amazing Grace. I love the family dynamic of the Dupree's so much. They remind me of my own family at times. Martin & Smitty have come leaps and bounds from where they  started. I genuinely felt a connection between them I can't wait to watch it deepen. Dana/Leslie/Sherry/Ana is a piece of work. Her speech at the Dupree's about her "concern" for Eva and then locking her out of their apartment??? She is pure evil, but I love it. I can't wait to see where the Eva/Kat story goes. There's so much potential there. As for Ted, I need to see Keith Robinson in the role before giving my true critique of Maurice Johnson.
    • I don't recall that we ever saw the exterior of the Madison house.  BUT the interior is definitely Mission Revival.  It has a wrought-iron staircase, and all the doorways & corridors have archways.  I watched a few old episodes over the weekend from that period and really noticed for the first time how uniquely Mission Revival the set is.
    • I know Daphnee's back hurts, because she was carrying Maurice through those scenes! Still not loving the idea of replacing the actor, but he was giving very little.  Brandon's scenes with Leslie did not hit the way they were supposed to because I was busting out laughing.  One thing I enjoy about this soap is how it plays with the nuance of good and evil. Kat vs Eva and Anita vs Leslie. There are some things that Kat and Anita said that makes it hard to root for them and how the Duprees can be family over everything to a fault. It almost makes them come across as entitled and unlikely at times. And while what Lesile and Eva have done is wrong in different ways, you can see that hurt and sympathize.  Now, what I don't get is what Lesile thought she was doing expecting the Duprees to accept Eva with open arms. Honey, Eva is a Richardson not a Dupree. In the Dupree world, she's Ted's problem unless they choose otherwise, because there ain't a drop of Dupree blood coursing throught her veins (unless we learn otherwise in some twist). Ted is lucky if they don't disown his ass.
