DAYS: December 2024 Discussion Thread

I like Shawn being "Team Philip", but I wish he was going to be involved in Titan, not going back to the force.  Especially when there is no current mystery for the police to solve.

Again, the letter being fraudulent is the obvious resolve of this issue.  But, it is unnecessary.  Philip, being a previously named heir, could have easily contested the will given Theresa's fraud, and tried to get the courts to reinstate the previous version.  This just feels like classic DAYS where there'll be a closeup on Philip's (or Kate's) guilty face every time someone mentions the letter.  And eventually, Shawn will figure out the truth and be torn about exposing it.  Very paint by numbers, with no chance of a twist.

Today was the first time when it felt like there was split in Salem over who should run Titan.  Because we assume most people are on Xander's side.  I wish they would extend that split through the hoildays with people taking sides within the same household.

Once again, they referenced Kristen's past with Sarah, but have completely neglected Ava and Kristen's past.  They have a rich history of friendship and betrayal.  But, they act like this issue with Brady is their first interaction with each other.

And there was really no explanation for why Brady, Tate, and Holly didn't go to Doug's memorial (other than the set was too small to fit the whole cast).

Brady mentioned being out of town on business multiple times. Tate and Holly had no reason to be there, and I wouldn't have had Brady there either anyway. The most egregious of the current cast was Sarah not being at the funeral, especially after those great scenes with her and Maggie that actually made her feel like a Horton for probably the first time.

I like the scenes betw Belle & Brady, Shawn & Jada. Loved the confrontation betw Ava & Kristen. Also I am enjoying the feud betw Xander & Philip. I've changed my mind about this actor now playing Philip. I didn't like him at first but now I think he's got it down. And, yes, he even makes Stephanie more interesting!

I get it that Rafe needs to work for Black Patch because it's going to be losing John, but was it Latin machismo that kept him from working for Jada?

Overall, an excellent day.

I think the writers wanted Rafe working with steve now that we no longer have john and they wanted him changing careers I'm happy this happened because I like Jada  as police commissioner better than Rafe on the show I also felt his character was in that job way too long .

OK. I haven't watched DAYS in eons; however, I finally sat and watched the memorial episodes for Bill Hayes and yikes...

I will say that the actual funeral and flashbacks were perfect. And Susan Seaforth Hayes and Kristian Alfonso drew at my heartstrings over their grief. That aside, let's get to the rest...

Who was in charge of the plotting and dialogue for these episodes? They need to be stoned. It felt like a cheesy spoof of soap operas.

I didn't like Jack finding Doug deceased. It would have been more impactful had it simply been Julie. Of the death episodes, I do love Eli/Julie's relationship. I have always since the last I watched.

It didn't feel organic when moving toward the actual funeral episodes (aside from the funeral itself).

For instance, Maggie referring to Marie by her full name was odd as if they weren't family for 30+ years. Also, the two bumping into each other at the town square. I feel like Maggie would've known Marie was coming, as she's still in the Horton family loop.

Marlena & Liz's conversation was choppy, too. I assume the dialogue was supposed to educate newer fans, but that's what history books and forums are for. I don't mind a history nugget here or there but I felt a lot of interactions were rehashing the returning characters' history and ties to people.

Then Steven, a 60+-year-old man climbing through a window? What?! I think having him pop up to the reunion and surprise Julie would've been more realistic.

Hope missing her dad's funeral b/c Bo had a spasm is stupid (as well). There's no way Hope would not attend his memorial service.

The introduction of Doug III was rushed and cliche. Yes, I like the nod that Doug III will be a con man much like his grandpa; however, it would've been better to have him pop up in town a while after the memorial. Furthermore, I feel it would've been more impactful had they simply brought Douggie back instead. Overall, I am glad that it'll give Julie something to do going forward.

I did love seeing Lucas, as I always felt DAYS should be propping Lucas up as the male lead of this show. But whatever.

This is why DAYS needs to stop filming months ahead and revert to 2-3 weeks of filming ahead (from the airdate) like all the other shows. And yes, I get DAYS is on a shoestring budget and is limited to much, but I see the potential for it to be good. They simply need to stray from the cliched antics and ramp it up. You're on Peacock! DAYS should be giving traditional soap but with no hold-barred.

No sense at all! Ron is a puzzle. At times he seems to get it. Other times it's like he stopped caring. Yet more times it is hard not to think he's just a hack. But, I didn't appreciate the through the window nonsense & was just as annoyed when they had him spend one whole precious scene in the square with Leo.

    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
    • That was such a dark story. I never liked Swamp girl after that. And then the dating your cousin thing. I think wasn’t Max in a triangle with two of his cousins?
    • Thank you, @j swift.  I'm probably more sympathetic to Draper Scott than most audience members are -- even though I'm absolutely CRAZY about Ann Williams & her bizarre Margo Huntington character

The more I watch these episodes -- and I've watched several of them a zillion times, I'm ashamed to admit -- you realize there's a WHOLE lot of passive-aggressive hostility brewing inside Margo Huntington about Draper.  She wants to take April AWAY from him and recreate the childhood that she never got to experience with April, because of the adoption 25 years ago.  Draper has sense enough to realize how heartless and vindictive Margo really is about other people's lives and their feelings, but he bites his tongue rather than poison his wife's mind about how horrible her mother really is.  And I admire him for that.  He's a sweet boy.
    • Unfortunately, as the 90s wore on, Felicia started wearing as many gray and neutral tones as Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan could produce, and the shoulder pads deflated to a drop sleeve.
    • I think Dante is reacting how most parents would react.
    • 5-2   Lord... At least the week started off well...I think. I don't know where to start.   Oh, yes, I do. It was mostly background noise to me. There was nothing to the majority of the characters that were on. Meaning, it was mostly characters that I didn't care for or I've gotten accustomed to just FF-ing through. Or just zoning out. Even the possibility that Michael and Lauren might have a story was just meh simply because we have done this dance before and Lauren was coming across like Michael was working for Sonny on GH the mob.   The biggest thing I really took away from last week was that the new costumer designer has stepped up her game again. It didn't bother me at all, but I wish there was some drama with this fashion. I liked Claire's outfit, LOVE Nikki's. And I continue to like brighter colors on Nick though I hated those pants. And I could go on about the clothes misses like Billy in that short sleeeve, but I digress.   The only things that held my interest...   THE SICKENING OF COLE. As soon as he started to cough, I went uh oh. I'm happy to see he might be getting a story. And I guess it shows how much history I have with the character that I care. But still...ugh.   ALL THINGS AUDRA. I admit that I was taken aback to see Victor with her at Crimson Lights. When was the last time he was there? I want to say recently with Kyle/Claire, but otherwise I still found the scene taking me aback. But I like her being soft with Kyle who actually came across annoyingly flirty for someone that hates Audra. I actually can't wait for him to eat crow. And since Audra is now being used to drive a wedge between Kyle and Claire, I have to talk about...   SUMMER'S EXIT. Mmmm...mixed feelings. It don't seem half as bad as others appear to see it. Yes, if I didn't have the context, it still seem odd that her part in the Kyle/Claire drama was barely touched on. And she interacted with everyone I felt she should interact with. But in the overall context...I still didn't mind the exit. Though it was abrupt.    I did like hearing that Noah and Allie are still together. And don't get me started on the offscreen Mariah drama.
    • I'm sure old Reva/Josh fans saw the writing on the wall--and this was their pattern. They (or usually Josh) was so angry that they'd spend months yelling at each other, and then "boom", they were macking up on each other, regardless of who else they were entangled with. (This is the couple who slept together under HB's roof while Reva was married to him, after all.) "Always". *gag me*
    • I don't think we've seen the last of Erica Kane. That's something I will continue believing in.
    • You are the best!!!! That is a remarkable talent, to not just summarize, but contextualize Draper's dilemma!  It is delightful to be able to think of that situation in a new way. - Thank you

I was pondering Lee Godart's accent, because it was so dreamy.  It made me think he would've been perfectly cast as Victor Newman's brother on Y&R.  American's have a hard time distinguishing European accents.  And, good news, before I hit reply, I went and confirmed the actor is still alive.
    • Has anyone even told Gio that Sonny once shot Dante?
