Feels like Dex is one of those characters who was lost in the shuffle this year.

They seemed to have Gio mooning over the knockoff Carly and then went to Trina so I have no idea what their plans are, but any attempt to make Joss a central heroine will fail. She's just not compelling or sympathetic.

They delivered the shock and entertainment today lol

Was not expecting Dex to actually die I thought for sure he’d land in a coma. Bravo to the show and actor for not spoiling the surprise. Eden McCoy and Finola Hughes did solid work outside of his room while the staff tried to save Dex and so did Rebecca Herbst with the final scene contemplating how this could have happened. I never truly cared for the character so good riddance and I expect Joss will get Natalia’s son for a love interest next.

The fall out from the video reveal was great. Laura Wright, Jane Elliott and Wally Kurth carried the load here and did it well. Ned and Tracy cackling then reading Drew the riot act alongside BrookLynn was chefs kiss. Carly ripping Willow a new one after she tried shifting the blame to Michael for even having the video then going off on Drew was what I was waiting for

Then the ending with Carly catching Nina and Willow trying to run off with the kids? Love it, this is how I like my Caroline giving people HELL. Shout out to Cynthia Watros for the way she delivered the “This is war” warning line to Willow too.

Its unfortunate Michael is still written like such a simp because he felt like a background player the whole episode. I guess the writers were just as bored of Chad Duell as he has looked onscreen.

I hope they ditch the forced Trina aggravation at Kai for good because they were so much more interesting to watch today, loved the chemistry between them now that she’s not being such a nag.

Lulu and Dante also had some great scenes, I loved how they addressed Sam’s death and the banter over her breaking into Wyndemere. I could rock with this version of Lante if they go there

LOL’d at both Ric and Ava’s cards declining and Lucas having to come save them. This Cassadine’s stealing their money back plot could be interesting depending on who they have being behind it.

Solid episode overall I’m excited for Monday

Ham fisted is right. And when Kai was interviewed and when Trina talked to Kai after the game, why did production lay an audio track under it that was of a game in progress?

Don't get me started on Trina having no clue about what a bowl game is.

Agree completely. Honestly, I was struck by the LOADS of hypocrisy in that room. Yes, The video was bad, but just about everyone in that room was guilty of something as bad -- or worse. I mean, come on.

And miss me with Joss and Trina stepping out of the room, as if it would be harmful for them to hear what happened. Yeah, I know Joss had to jet to the hospital and Trina to the stadium, buT still.

Dex's death was a surprise, and everyone does deserve applause for keeping that quiet. I guess we should have realized he was in deep trouble when we got romantic and sex scenes between Joss and Dex this week after seeing nothing for months. Typical bad soap writing.

Why Elizabeth is permitted ANYWHERE near Dex is a mystery considering what happened with Sam.

I've said it before but I think Eden is tolerable in doses. She has great real BFF chemistry with Tabyana, she can be funny and I think can do screwball or vixen stuff but she can't be an A-lead. For that you would eventually need a recast. But I can handle her in a smaller role like she's had for much of the year. I don't want to deal with her howling and grieving for weeks or months.

I do think the PM era tried to make Dex and Joss more palatable to the writer's own tastes by moving him to a cop role, which IMO was the right thing for that character and he came off sincere and good-hearted in that arena with Anna, etc. But ultimately I never cared about Dex and won't miss him. It's time to do what OLTL '91 did: Purge! Start throwing up an opening sequence where 50-70% of the actors in it have already been fired! Here's what you do when you don't find the rainbow's end! Don't cry!

I agree. I was just saying how unusual it was for Frank. That said they haven't done nearly enough and they clearly didn't let PM purge anyone in the spring. Now they're doing a little with their back against the wall, I suspect. I still think the idiotic Sasha thing was largely to try to retrench/protect Sofia Mattsson in addition to giving Tristan a (bad) sendoff appeasing his fans, I hope I'm wrong re: Mattsson.

It seems so stupid to have it be creaky old Cyrus again. I still think this will eventually tie back to Sidwell somehow. This show loves a cardboard character actor villain who lingers for years. But whatever, anything that gets rid of this shambling old man.

I wish we knew which characters Mulcahey would have gotten rid of compared to who is going now. I know you've speculated on Sasha. I still think Ava too, especially as the show seems to have no real plans for her and are for now riding the wave of Ric's return and the Kristina mess. I'm not sure if that was planned under Mulcahey or not. I suppose Ric Hearst and Alexa Havins cost a bit, at least compared to a Dex. Ric probably won't last much longer, but Lulu is probably staying, so hopefully that means a few more exits, like Drew.

    • And if I remember correctly, at one point, they were considering having Linda Thorson play Opal's sister.
    • Interesting. Makes me wonder how the day to day looked for Secret Storm at this point in the run. This seems very to deal with the psychological aspect, I guess the "inner storm", and the music is almost sinister. If this is from 1974 there's not much room for dates it could've been from as it ended on February 8th.  It's hard to tell from an edit featuring just one storyline, but if this was the day to day it might've been heavy for the casual viewers.   ETA: Stephanie Braxton is credited to have appeared as Laurie from 1970-1973. David Gale is credited only in 1973 and Alexander Scourby from 1972-1973. I know IMDB isn't always right, but I'd say this is likely 1973 - I'm guessing all these characters exited before 1974 and this might be a part of their final storyline.
    • Well, they were both involved with Ray Gardner.  Then, the actress left in 1980, only to return as a somewhat broader interpretation of the character after Dottie was SORASed.  By that time, Opal had left in 1983.  So, while they serve the same story function,(verbally abusive/neglectful mothers who make you feel sorry for their daughters), one could argue that Edna was the carbon copy.
    • Okay, now it's my turn to ask about the Thorntons, namely Edna. Did she and Opal have any scenes together? I ask because I was familiar with Opal first, so when I found out about Edna, my biased mind saw her as the first try for that type of character.
    • There is no dispute that Jill Farren Phelps had a successful career in daytime based on longevity, but that does not preclude discussion and dislike of her decisions at various shows. Sure there may have been some misogyny involved BITD(we don't know as I don't recall JFP ever mentioning that) but the head of CBS Daytime at that point was a woman and there were other women involved BTS. I think that so long as an EP could deliver, or at least talk a good game they would be respected.
    • It surprises/disappoints me too that GL's ratings during '89-'93 don't reflect the quality of the show. But when I call it great soap, I'm not defining that by ratings either.  I'm probably in the minority, but I think Reilly takes something intangible with him when he goes. There's a sense of humor that just disappears in '93.
    • Ok, I know nothing about Another World except their catchy intro song from long ago, but this makes me want to catch!  That crazy mother keeping her son's girlfriend or wife hostage, wow!
    • And maybe Hotel could have been placed at 9pm Tues instead of Paper Dolls. Not that I thing it was a surefire thing but at least viewers were familiar with the show and it might have done better than PD. ABC's line up was pretty threadbare at that point. And with a big guest star to launch the season - Elizabeth Taylor- the numbers would have been there initially.
    • Any fan of RuPaul would dispute calling any of these examples “drag”. A costume?, A disguise?, A lame attempt at humor? -- yes -- Drag? -- nope
