[thud] Just learning Chad's MIA for the whole Doug Memorial?!!!! No.

No, I think you're right in that their goal would always to be to completely hook another viewer, not just watch one episode. Both DAYS & Peacock. I've recently seen 2 different fan accounts of what happened when DAYS moved to Peacock. One, more than 2 million new subscribers, the other, almost 5 million new subscribers. They were both making a point about how glad Peacock was at that point to have DAYS & then they went on to opine that they are still happy with the show for various reasons. (Apparently the soap press reported 2 million within the first 3 months on the streamer.)

They even have a term for people who subscribe for one show, on temporarily, and then drop. (Like me.)

Q: Is Susan married to this Roger guy?

EJ threatening Joy is exactly what he should be doing. I'm glad Joy has come to town as an innocent but I do think slowly transforming her into a villain with the aftermath of this story would be a smart choice.

Also, I've said before I like Cherie better as an actress than Camila, but unfortunately it is true that Cherie has none of the grit that Banus had. I don't believe Cherie's Gabi ever came from humble beginnings. Still, I think this opportunity to put her and JJ together is classic soap build-up. In fact, I've really enjoyed this Cat story altogether. She's very likable and empathetic and if done right by could be a great character if AnnaLynne McCord wants to stick around. This is easily one of the best stories RC has done on DAYS that I can remember. In fact, I can't remember ever liking any of his actual stories on this show before, but my mind is a sieve so maybe I'm forgetting something.

Anyway, I thought the Thanksgiving episode was great. I can easily separate the art from the artist, so seeing Melissa Reeves as Jennifer again (ugly dress aside), was a comfort. And literally from frame one she embodied Jennifer completely. Glad to see so many here agree. Lani and especially Eli felt great to see again, and glad we got him with Julie so quickly and was happily surprised to get a Jennifer/Eli scene, too. All the Horton house stuff was must watch for me.

Can I just say I really don't care for Paulina. I keep trying to manifest Jackée Harry wanting to move on, but she's still here. I always thought it was dumb how they created her character and made Tamara a moot point.

I thought Jack being the one to find Doug was a smart choice. It was almost like a passing of the torch from one former wrong 'un who married into the Hortons to another. Perfect. Though I think I would have wanted Jennifer and Eli to come rushing in after Julie dropped the candlestick.

Lastly, I was most surprised to see the dining room of the Horton house to the point I didn't even know where Chad was at first. When's the last time a room besides the living room was shown?

Today was a long one. 48 minutes.

And a tough one too

Especially when Julie went upstairs to see Doug. I don’t know if I would have included music playing over that scene but I didn’t really mind it either. You really have to give major props to SSH for having to mourn twice, one of which in front of a camera. They really were the perfect couple, both onscreen and in real life.

I like the way everybody absorbed the news of Doug’s death, and how they all remembered how he was a part of their lives. We got a real sense of family and community in today’s episode and that always be an important dynamic on soaps.

Hope was the one who really stood out to me today. And it’s great to have her and Shawn back on the canvas. I didn’t expect her to go to Bo’s bedside and tell him about Doug.

The flashbacks were great too. You could tell that they weren’t used just to pad the episode out. Every single one of them served a purpose. And there were some that I’ve never seen before, like the one of Doug and Maggie dancing lol I wonder what would have happened if they had actually gone there with Doug/Maggie in the late 70s.

And it was nice that they finally let us know that Eli does have a relationship with his brother, Scotty.

48:23 Angela directing. Megan Titus script writer, she is a screenwriter who works permanent full time as an (or the) assistant to the producers. 11 cast members. 6 flashbacks, some never seen before. In Salem.

I'm an emotional, but uplifted, mess. All I can say, right now, is that they did themselves & us PROUD. More later.

It's a shame it took the death of a beloved character/actor for Carlivati to write something meaningful with returning favorite actors/characters.

Can't wait to watch. The positive posts are something nice to read. I'll probably catch up by Sunday, as I'm eight episodes behind.

    • I think they are a part of the same family, although Carla was never really scheming for the same reasons, and once her double life was exposed, she stopped.
    • Rachel/Ada, Mona/Erica, a mother/daughter at LOVING, these are all examples of the Agnes Nixon "troublesome daughter/put upon mother" trope. Are Carla/Sadie by any chance one of the pairs that make up this trope? Another thing that these 2 shows might have in common. OLTL had a very strong thematic approach to socioeconomic differences between groups of people. Class differences. AW at an earlier point had this too but to be clear it was not as much as OLTL. So that is a similarity but marginal.  Besides that, I see no other comparable things. Paul Rauch was a very different EP at different shows. Oh, I've thought of one more thing. Using actors from the Broadway stage.  But, realistically that was something all of the NY shows had in common. So I don't think it has any uniqueness between AW & OLTL.
    • When you look at the period between Sweeps, it's as if they tried to maintain a kind of pace where they had a lot of plates spinning in the air & on their fingertips & the whole goal was nothing but to not drop any of those plates. A version of spinning one's wheels. They're not getting anywhere but they give the appearance of a whole lot of activity. I believe it's all about this appearance. At moments they accidentally hit a chord & something resonates but it is a false event.

    • I’m not speculating anything, but I admit, I’m getting a little worried about James Reynolds.
    • I feel like this is what they're doing by creating lots of storylines but their biggest weakness for years is the inability to properly pace these stories and give resolution. A good example now would be the Gio story which has been simmering for months with very little movement. I went from not caring to being invested to not caring again because of how long it's taking for the secret to be revealed. One story like that would be fine but it seems like everything moves at this snails pace on GH. They need to do a better job of rotating the stories so everything isn't in that same treading water phase.
    • However, those of us who watch DAYS have been spoiled. On Peacock there are no preemptions. Not for anything & not in or about any show.  I read somewhere that we Baby Boomers in a way invented instant gratification but then we realized that it was not fast enough.
    • The title track from the follow-up album Hot On the Trail is also co-written by Val Jean:

    • I read an interview with Lenore Kasdorf and she had said was asked back to GL in 1987 but she turned it down but she said now with Michael (Roger) and Maureen (Holly) back, she would be more interested in returning. This had to be around 1989 and I think in SOD (more of a where are they now? type of article)
