I dunno if it's true but I read this was pitched to ES at literally the last moment, so it clearly, as we can see, wasn't planned

I could easily see a problem develop on the surgery table while Sam is handing over part of her liver to Lulu, hence the vent.

I know soaps regularly let go of an actor in order to free up the budget to hire another actor, but I've rarely seen it depicted onscreen in such a symbolically heavy-handed fashion as it sounds like we'll see on Friday. "Bye, KeMo, we're taking out your liver to pay for Alexa Havins' salary! Er, I mean, we're taking out Sam's liver so that Lulu can live."

If she needed to be intubated for surgery then she would be on a ventilator. Liver donation is not done laparoscopically, so she would be intubated. They are not hand bagging someone during a surgery, they are hooked up to a vent for stability while performing the procedure. Another vent having issues would be an option because they have set it up.

It's not as dire as that, but Adamson definitely brings more to the role (as he doesn't rest on the writing), but I don't hate Duell in the role.

he brings a "twerpy" vibe to the role that CD doesn't, imo. CD perfectly gives "rich, spoiled, country club brat" and when he's in scenes with Drew and Ned he doesn't look like a punk kid, which I think is good for the character and role. He also looks comfortable in scenes with LW and MB as his parents, which I think s important.
