DAYS: August 2024 Discussion Thread

While I agree that the scene with Kristen was uncharacteristic of James Scott's EJ, I appreciated the humor about not plotting out loud.  Much in the same way that I smiled when Brady talked about all the living room weddings a few weeks ago.  There's something charming about these self-aware, but still easily hoodwinked dudes.

For once, we got to see what happens to the scene partner when a character has a flashback.  Tate is talking to Brady, Brady flashes back to a conversation with Fiona, finally we get a character who is wondering why his father is suddenly lost in thought.  It usually seems so unnatural.

2 questions of the day:

  1. We saw that the DA has an office when Melinda met with Rafe, so why does Jada have to go to EJ's house to meet with him?  Doesn't he need to keep regular office hours as a city employee?
  2. When Maggie was talking about her family farm, didn't she have brothers who were in the story back in the day and trained Micky to work on the farm?  I wonder why we've never met her nieces or nephews, rather than inventing fake kids for her?  Today's scenes with Sarah and Holly highlights that we didn't Daniel, or that girl who was obsessed with gold elephants, for Maggie to play a maternal role.

EJ was positively giddy at the thought of prosecuting Brady which honestly doesn’t feel out of character for him at all to me. Even going back to James Scott’s EJ, Brady and EJ have hated each other, I believe due to Nicole if memory serves me right.

The Maggie and Sarah scenes were great. As someone else mentioned, this just proves Maggie didn't need retconned children. I'm just glad Daniel's death actually seems permanent.

John and Marlena had the Salem brain today.

There were a lot of good scenes today.

I like the ripple effect that Sarah’s hit and run has been having across the canvas. This could lead to so many turning points for a lot of storylines and characters, especially Tate and Holly. Tate talked about the relationship he had with his Dad today, so it would be obvious for him to take Brady’s side in all this, putting him at odds with Holly, Xander, etc.

Plus, I wouldn’t mind seeing Xander and Tate going head to head either. They could even have him team with John and Marlena to try and find out the truth about the hit and run. John and Marlena seemed suspicious about everything in their scenes today and I’d love for them to continue to have a bigger part in this storyline.

I loved it when they did this. It was kinda like an AHA moment. And, finally, I am beginning to like this Tate more, especially in scenes with Brady.

So, we are told that Kristen saw the damage to Brady's car, immediately put 2 and 2 together, and for Rachel's sake, she took care of it, doing away with the evidence entirely.

Jada & Xander cannot stop arguing with each other. This is not the way to spend their time!

John & Marlena are suspicious from a few different perspectives. Main, though, is why in the world would Brady not have mentioned his car being stolen????? Very tentatively, they mention "drinking?"

At the hospital, of course, Brady runs into Tate & Holly. So, the truth comes out. He gets the low-down on the whole summer plan. As we can imagine, he is appalled. But, he seemed to me to be slow on the uptake. They'd be revealing something bad that they'd done & he's going, "You mean I spent all this money & your friend Aaron is the one at hockey camp?!!" Yes, Brady, try to keep up. While Brady is having a flashback involving his own troubles, Tate asks just how much trouble is he in.

Maggie & Sarah had amazing dialogue, about Maggie's past, about Sarah's future & Holly comes in right in the middle of it.

She puts 2 & 2 together & realizes it was because she had taken the key to the Horton cabin, and Maggie & Sarah were looking for it, so indirectly it is her fault that Sarah is paralyzed. Holly is overcome with guilt.

Jada is telling EJ that Brady is her suspect & asks about an arrest warrant. Just that moment, Brady walks in & says, "I confess."

What drama! So soapy.

I love when everyone on the show acts smart lol.  It's rare.  Xander trying to choke Brady at the Police Station was dumb, but the consideration of moving everyone to the Kiriakis mansion did make sense so I'll allow it.

I liked how John basically figured everything out with Brady quickly.  I also like the subtle nuance Marlena played and how she suspected something was off with Brady, but John wasn't around and it's not her son by blood and was a bit unsure how to act.

I feel like it's going to be hard to convict Brady because there is no car and he doesn't remember.  He just thinks he did it.  I obviously know Fiona will eventually get caught, but it's working out great for her so far lol.

Lol.  Poor Baby Victoria.  Having to listen to all that nonsense.

I honestly like Fiona.  Or am at least interested in her.  I know she will probably be gone in a flash so Leo can have more scenes, but I want to know more about her.  Her past, her marriage, her affair with Victor, how she raised Xander, etc.

    • I would put Felicia in the 'small dose' auntie category because she means well, but comes on too strongly at times.  In small doses, she would be a blast to hang out with.. but in anything larger than a small... she would be exhausting. I tend to prefer lower key people than people that are always 'on' all the time.  Those people can veer off into energy vampire status pretty quickly.
    • I didn't like the Harry story, but Nazar did have a great introduction. He was probably the highlight of last year.  Now that you mention it, I guess the truly dire stories (Nicole, Harper/Drew/Phil, Nicole) didn't start until summer.
    • thank you all for contributing to the Vault. I am slowly getting towards watching the 1998 episodes

    • I pray⏤and I know it's a big prayer⏤that Noel Maxam is somehow able to figure things out budget-wise so we can stop re-dressing existing sets as "new" sets. I know in apartment buildings apartments can generally look the same, but I'm over it on this soap. The last time he was executive producer was in 2011 when the original Horton Town Square was introduced, and we had some other sets get introduced around this time (likely pre-commissioned prior to his election), but I'm trying to have some hope he can pull this off. Let's [finally] see it.
    • Definitely not the best of RC's breakdowns. I don't know what it says that I could pick up his trademarks yesterday 30 minutes in without even knowing that he did one. There was something more...quirky/boardstroked...about Dani. Though I love the Dani/Nicole scenes, she was just a little too hip?...which made me think back to the episode when she broke into Bill/Hayley's house. Then watching the episode later on, I saw Hayley was being used as a punchline to the more interesting and relevant Bill/Ted scenes (see you all were just talking about how you hoped they got scenes...one thing this show is great at...what people want on this board...they already have the foresight for it. The reason I feel the DNA test will get mentioned @Cheap21 in more detail). And then poor Anita reduced for the most part propping up an album.    Needless to say, not my favorite RC episode. And since we are in aftermath week, I just smh. And barely worth a rewatch. BUT...was there good for me?    Yes. Thankfully, we still got good aftermath beats regardless of the breakdown.   Like I said, I really like the Dani/Nicole scenes. But I love their dynamic. And I was looking forward to the shoe being on the other foot once the SilkPress storyline hit climax. Quirks aside, it did not disappoint. Dani came in, and she came in fierce for her sister. I loved her attacking Eva. And then her being surprisingly introspective about Nicole due to her own experience. No wonder Nicole reacted to her being self-aware. So did I.    Meanwhile Bill and Ted finally met up. I'm kinda sad that we did not get that sooner given the scenes that played out sidepiece in the background aside. It might have been interesting to see more of their status as non-Duprees coming into the family explored.    And of course I can't leave without mentioning Eva vs SilkPress Sheila which was the highlight. Both of them were giving. And SilkPress was just so cold with it. I did love that Eva finally stopped letting her gaslight her. Sad to see the duo break up. But I did love that she went to Ted. So...the next turn begins.   And speaking of turns...uh oh at Kat and Tomas. I'm sure he won't be staying away from her. So most definitely, Kat vs Eva ain't over. It will be interesting to see how it goes now that most people know that Kat was right all along.
    • Nah I enjoyed it much more last year because of the Harry plot that ended during that time. Nazar being introduced and them. But this time it is so lame and nothing I like forward to anymore and I’m one of them long time fans. Of course I would be upset if they would cancel it but maybe take a year off or two and return refreshed
    • came across this quote that provides some context: “It’s hard to escape the cultural reach of the Catholic Church when you live in the Western world. It is, for better or worse, one of the load-bearing walls of our civilization. Its influence wafts from the church into the streets of civic life, the courts, the schools, the arts.”
    • Yesterday's show:   Can they give Ambyr Michelle the Emmy for supporting actress already?   Truly enjoyed the episode from Leslie and Eva, Eva and Ted, Nicole and Dani to Anita and Nicole.
