GH: July 2024 Discussion Thread

Today I did a re-watch of the first 3 days of this week. Only Sonny is maybe giving Natalia a pass. Without question every other single person was not only appalled at Natalia but totally unwilling to let Natalia continue to spew garbage in any of their presences. EVERYONE at Deception judged Natalia harshly. Which is what she deserves, of course.

Maxie: I didn't mean that part. I only said it to prompt Natalia to sacrifice herself but I seriously underestimated that woman's self-absorption. GH 7-2-24

Then we see her at Sonny's when Alexis comes to tell him about Ava.

Natalia: I can't help how I feel.

Alexis: Well, I think that you can .. Help how you feel, perhaps by opening your mind.  GH 7-3-24

Nina was crystal clear in her judgment of Natalia.

We know what both DeWitt & Ava thought of her.

Now, Sonny he knew how she felt. so he was robbed of being outraged in his surprise. Plus, he may withhold comments until after they have sex.

We haven't even seen today but I gave Maxie the Hero of the Week. Her speech was amazing!

Maxie: I'm saying the opposite of that. What Deception cannot afford is to have a "Face" representing us who is ashamed of who she is, of being gay. Deception is a diverse organization, made up of many people, YouTubers, TikTockers, influencers, many of whom are gay & proud of it. And, they represent a very large social media presence. Deception cannot align itself with someone who is ashamed of being gay. Deception is a gay friendly company. So, Natalia, you & Blaze either get with the program or kick rocks. GH 7-2-24

And, NLG is like a nursery rhyme. When she is good, she is very very good & this week she was just that good. I have no idea why at times they don't write for her.

Ava asked Trina to help her against Sonny and she dodged that. She stayed out of trouble but is still without a story. I think the show has downgraded their relationship from surrogate parent/daughter to just employer/employee.

Ava really put her on the spot & in a bad way. You could really tell that Trina didn't like it, not one bit. Trina & Joss talked it over, intelligently, while being aware that Ava's room at the MC overlooks the pool area, which is where they were. After they caught up, Gio & Trina had this nothing little conversation but the thing that was striking was how they were grinning so big at each other. If they're going to have them become more than friends, I wish they would get it going.

Ok Sonny, Ava was wrong for giving that recording to DeWitt But it all falls back on Natalia. Those were her words. She said them and she meant them.

Kristina, FTW!

Kate Mansi killed it today. She might even have her Emmy reel ready. And as much as I want Natalia to just go away and never come back, I thought Eva La Rue did pretty well too.

Not really sure about Blaze getting dropped by her label though. That part of the story seems about twenty years too late.

The Gio/Trina scenes were really sweet. The two actors do have some chemistry too. And it seemed to me like those scenes were unintentionally juxtaposed against the Dex/Joss scenes, and kind of showed fans which actress should be featured more by GH and which actress needs to be sent to the backburner and left there.

And I'll say it again, as charming and adorable as Gio is and as much I like Dex, they're no Cam and Spencer and trying to recreate Cam/Spencer/Trina/Joss with the two of them is not gonna work.

I'm currently enjoying international shows as well, particularly South Korean and Turkish dramas. The Chinese dramas piss me off because the female lead is always a weakling, and somehow the mistress is idolized by the male lead's friends and families, while the wife is looked up to as a peasant or a nuisance. Otherwise, American soaps are feeling like a chore to get through.

I don't think Ava knowingly outed Blaze. As far as she knew, Blaze was out. Regardless, it's not her job to protect a grown adult. Talk to me when she does it and it impacts a minor.

Otherwise, most people are coming off anti-Ava regardless of their stance on Natalia. They are against Ava for outing the bigot more than the person who said the thing to begin with. That bothers me.

I do not think anyone except Natalia herself, thinks for even one minute that she is a victim in this. When she tried to say as much in the Deception office, she was basically shouted down. And, even if Ava thought that Blaze was out, she knowingly humiliated her by having her mother speak such horrible things about her. It is very clear who did what. And, Ava spent a lot of time on this. She had to edit herself out of the whole recording. It was not illegal, but it was hateful, spiteful, hurtful & amazingly unnecessary. This IS Ava & it's totally true to her character to do something like this.

Kate Mansi was on top of the world today. She said that Natalia was a bigot & it is her own choice that she is so. Kristina is absolutely right. However, Natalia persisted all along that she can't help the way she was brought up, thinking that gay people are confused but that they choose to be this way. Those 2 things do not make sense together.

    • I know Passions used this trope with Ethan and Sam to drag out the paternity, but GH seems to speed through certain stories while dragging others.
    • For any other soap, I think I’d agree, but GH, I don’t know

    • Agreed, that there was some strange choices in the episode, especially at the end, but overall, that was some great drama that opens up the potential for so much future storyline. Kat vs. Eva having the most potential, especially over Tomas. I have mixed feelings about Martin/BC though. I thought he did pretty well in scenes with Smitty/MM, but the scenes of him confronting Leslie and of him throwing the books were bad lol she acted circles around him.  It’s similar to what Harding Lemay said about George Reinholt at AW; he could be brilliant in one scene, but then mediocre in the next.
    • I know some of y'all really like Brooke Kerr, and so I've tried to give her a shot, despite her frequent flat line readings and distracted "did I leave the front door unlocked?" facial expressions. But lord, she is so bad at playing a tough-talking badass that I was actually rooting for Brad today to spill the beans to Drew.
    • Googling does tend to ruin it.  For those of us who were teens in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you can't imagine how much fun it was to watch the show in the afternoons.  (It came on right after school.)  There weren't any "spoilers" at the time.  We would always try to anticipate how each crime and each mystery would be resolved, and we were ALWAYS wrong, because the stories are filled with so many weird twists and turns.   The head writer (Henry Slesar) and his dialogue writer (Steve Lehrman) invariably toss genuine clues directly into your face in the most unlikely ways, but then they provide a host of "red herrings" to completely confuse you and send you off on the wrong path.  Once the story reaches its conclusion, all you can think is Why didn't I figure that out weeks ago?  lol
    • Does the vault have the original scene and not the short flashback?
    • I appreciate that you are using AI with the knowledge of it's limitations. Some posters take everything it produces as fact.
    • And of course Mama Ru herself appeared on All My Children.
    • The Saturday 8pm slot usually had the lowest rating of the NBC 4 sitcom lineup for some reason. NBC let Saturday night fizzle, They used 9.30 pm to launch 227 and Amen, both of which moved to earlier in the evening but they  kept Empty Nest following GG for several seasons.  Empty Nest should have moved to 8pm with their strongest new sitcom at 9.30, anticipating that GG would eventually falter. Instead they left them there and stretching the sitcom pool too thinly on other nights. When Grand talk over at 9.30 Thurs maybe Night Court and Wings could have been used on Saturday.
