It really wouldn't surprise me to learn that was Frank Valentini's doing.  That man really doesn't know what to do with writing that's NOT plot-driven, campy and utterly devoid of wit or intelligence.  He's truly what happens when you let a general manager at a Red Lobster produce a soap opera.

I forgot the "not."

Without calling them Mason and Julia, those scenes with Lane and Nancy should have been written las if they were playing Mason and Julia. Who would care at this point?

What was great about them was the bickering and how they'd get under each other's skin. There was a little of that the first day, but not enough!!

Love me some RL. I hope the one here doesn't get shut down.

Walmart has sold them for years. The mix or frozen type.

As for the show it wasn't half bad. It kept me entertained.

I think they let PM go a bit too soon. They should've kept him a bit longer and cut Korte as his Co HW.

From what we've always heard from cast and crew he is on-set nonstop and very particular about what he wants moment to moment. The former is very admirable for an EP, the latter can be a problem in the wrong conditions or with the wrong tastes.

And Frank Valentini's tastes are as wrong as...well...as wrong as serving year-round Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster.

(I apologize, but the RL analogies just fit!)

That definitely goes without saying!

If CBSD hadn't picked up THE GATES*, then I would have campaigned hard for Michele Val Jean to come back to GH as PM's co-head writer.

(*Which will totally save this genre, God willing!)

Thanks. I knew about it in boxes, but not frozen.

Yes, I do believe you are right, at least about letting PM go, if in fact they did, as opposed to if Patrick walked, in which case I suppose they made it intolerable for him.

But, about Korte, well, I think she is invaluable as a member of the team, including being show historian & script doctor rolled into one. I am NOT defending her specifically as co-HW & I think she is far too much in Frank's pocket to do what I want to see a *-HW do!!!

    • Not trying to be a contrarian, but I don't think the show needs a rival family.  Rival families have been over-done on soaps since the 1980s. And it might make the show too predictable.  I'd prefer they beef-up the have-not group with perhaps a couple of workers from the Country Club and one or two Dupree servants, joining the existing group of have-nots.  That would give the audience more opportunity to see Fairmont Crest life from the "backstairs."  To me this would be a far more interesting perspective than another wealthy family to rival the Duprees.
    • I wonder if that's why Valerie quit. I think some of the magazines at the time implied issues with Valerie and the producer, although I may be wrong. Painting Diana as going bad would have made more sense to me near the end of her run.
    • Carter & Thomasina were also stuck with a baby almost immediately and didn't get much to do after they finished high school. Carter's father was killed off and Marley drifted out of their friend group because of Jake. They left town after Carter's father died (of tomb dust!) and before Quinn died (unreasonably murdered by the Sin Stalker for dating Zack Edwards).
    • She most definitely would. And I would enjoy watching it! Yes, I agree, that was a very touching moment in her interview. It helped me feel much more connected to her as a performer. I also got the feeling from her, Live with DD, that she wanted to go deeper in conversation.
    • It really does feel like JG is getting off on torturing Shick fans.
    • That part I am not sure about, maybe Depboy might know?  The thing to remember about the show at that time was, it was so plot-driven and desperate that characters and their motivations changed virtually overnight.  There was a period of time where Diana Taylor suddenly became a bad guy and was in cahoots with Cameron Faulkner (toward the end of Valerie Starret's portrayal), which I HATED.
    • I'm going by clips so it's possible that the fan who did the editing made it look a different way than it was.
    • I’m sure Trisha-Mann Grant would love to play those layers too.  It stuck me when she said in an interview that she could identify with the pain Leslie carried because she was a single mother of two struggling with no help raising her kids at one point. You can tell playing Leslie means a lot to her, as devious as the character is (which I’m sure is fun to play for any actor)!
