ABC’s ā€œGeneral Hospitalā€ (2.175 million) was the big winner among Total Viewers during the week of January 1-5, 2024, adding +135,000 viewers week-to-week and hitting a new season high. Overall, the series attracted its largest audience since the week of May 1-5, 2023 (2.179 million vs. 2.175 million).

Since hitting a season low of just 1.915 million two weeks ago (week of December 18-22, 2023), the daytime drama series has seen two consecutive weeks of increases, climbing by +260,00 viewers during that period.Ā

Among Women 25-54, ā€œGeneral Hospitalā€ tied with CBS’ ā€œThe Bold and the Beautifulā€ (2.741 million), both with a 0.4 rating. However, in the unrounded demo, ā€œGeneral Hospitalā€ actually beat ā€œThe Bold and the Beautifulā€ for the first time this season (0.43 rating vs. 0.40 rating). The ABC series saw a big jump in unrounded over the week ago, going from a 0.36 rating last week to a 0.43 rating this week (+0.07).

ā€œThe Viewā€ (2.453 million) hit an eight-week high among Total Viewers (since the week of November 6-10, 2023), marking its second most-watched week of the season. The daily talk show continues to outrank all other daytime network talk shows and news programs, including ā€œTODAY 3rd Hourā€ (2.217 million), ā€œTODAY with Hoda & Jennaā€ (1.969 million), ā€œGMA3: What You Need to Knowā€ (1.413 million), ā€œNBC News Dailyā€ (1.303 million) and ā€œThe Talkā€ (1.290 million).

NBC’s broadcast of ā€œThe Tournament of Roses Paradeā€ and ABC’s broadcast of ā€œThe Rose Bowl Paradeā€ topped the list among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, ranking first and second, respectively. Both specials were up over their 2023 broadcasts.

Note: Most daytime broadcast shows were preempted or coded as specials on Monday, January 1, 2024 due to the New Year’s Day holiday.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast showsĀ performed during the week of January 1-5, 2024Ā in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performances in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020 (pre-pandemic), which provides readers with a clearer picture of how the shows are performing overall during a five-year period and/or the basis for an overall trend. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted shortly.

The numbers above are calculated using Live+Same Day viewing and DVR playback, defined as 3:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m. and are courtesy of Nielsen. Household ratings are the percentage of TV homes in the U.S. tuned into television, each of which represents 1,250,000 homes as of the 2023-2024 television season.

Note*: Officially, the demo ratings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. ā€œNBC News Dailyā€ 2022, 2021 and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of ā€œDays of our Lives,ā€ which moved to Peacock exclusively beginning September 12, 2022.

ā€œLet’s Make a Deal,ā€ ā€œThe Talk,ā€ and ā€œThe Viewā€ aired amended during the week of December 25-29, 2023, and were excluded from the weekly rankings for that week. Ratings for ā€œTODAY 3rd Hourā€ and ā€œTODAY with Hoda & Jennaā€ were unavailable for that week.

Year-to-year comparisons (2023 vs. 2022) for most daytime broadcast shows among Households and Total Viewers will be unavailable for the foreseeable future due to figures being unavailable toĀ Soap Opera NetworkĀ during that period.

B&B drops again.šŸ˜‚

The only soap to increase was GH.

The numbers are just dreadful for The Talk. Why haven't they cancelled this garbage of a show?

Forget "The Talk," what the heck is going on at "GMA3"? Was Amy and T.J. that popular? That's a huge fall.

I've never watched it. It's opposite the local news here and I watch it instead.Ā

Even CBS tactics with B&B isn't working to help out The Talk.

IMO Morgan and Pilgrim, while nice people, just don’t have the chemistry or energy that their predecessors Strahan, Sara, TJ, and Amy had.Ā
Ā

I forget The Talk even exists anymore tbh lol.

Absolute trash obviously 🤣

The last time flipped by the Talk I didn’t even recognize any of its hosts sans Jerry O’Connell and poor Natalie Morales, as I didn’t realize her career had sunken that low.Ā

I mean a 0.9 HH rating and you're still on the air? They've reboot the show too with zero success.

The new person in charge of daytime at CBS is a huge fan of retro classic ATWT. I'd love to see a new 30 minute soap replace the Talk.

BOLD dropping is deserved TBH. that's a good sized drop too given they were close to 2.9 million previous ratings lolĀ

GH beating BOLD in demos ROFL 🤣

@JeffĀ Look at BOLD's ratings lol

  • Member

TPIR had significant drops (300K+), so it's not surprising the rest of the lineup dropped as well.

The Talk - all you need to do is look at the audience spike LMAD 1 to see that it's a spectacular failure. It's got a solid and consistent lead-in B&B and leadout (LMAD). The show simply can't be that profitable with those numbers.

@JeffĀ Look at BOLD's ratings lol

Full week of revisiting Emma's death and painting Thomas as a villian, viewers don't care.Ā  As someone said in the discussion thread once, Brad can't think of anything else, his wild card is revisiting an unhinged Sheila (granted the ratings sky-rocketed when she shot SINN), now Thomas' mental stability, again.Ā  Time for new stories!

I suspect GH will continue its uptick, with JZ/Bobbie's funeral this week, so it will be beating BOLD in the demos probably!

  • Member

yeah I think he'll pull out his "Sheila card" before long if this keeps up. I mean to lose over 250K in a week is BAD. Yikes.Ā

People don't GAF about Emma then or now lol.Ā
