Did CBS go cheap all of a sudden? Starting with Colleen Zenk's joining the show, CBS seems to be giving up on properly coordinated promos for the soaps. When I say properly, I mean the network having a promo department that does this as their job. Did CBS/Paramount conduct layoffs recently? Or is this just because of the holidays?

It just seems odd, IMO.

Maybe I'm imagining things...

The official Y&R youtube channel is run by CBS and is usually geoblocked outside the US.
I posted the same "next week on Y&R" preview from the official Y&R facebook page a few posts back in this thread.  link to post
Their facebook page is usually viewable internationally.

The "Next week on Y&R" preview video is always bits of miscellaneous scenes.
It's not the promo.
Usually Y&R has both the NextWeek preview AND a promo.

There was no promo released (on any social media) for Y&R or B&B for the week of Dec. 4th.   It was odd.
(There was only the regular "next week on Y&R" clip for week of Dec. 4th which is bits of scenes).

More info to come ...

Right. That's why I asked if people got laid off or something. It is odd. This makes it two weeks in a row we don't have a promo (as of this writing). Usually the promos are out on Saturday or Sunday mornings.

The B&B promo stands out in that it was done in house. Just curious if something more is going on than we know.

It used to be ...

(long detailed analysis of cbs soaps promos in past few months, putting behind spoiler tag so you can skip it if it's uninteresting, LOL)

Spoiler

The CBS youtube channel (just plain CBS)
https://www.youtube.com/@CBS/videos
would have daily scene clips for B&B (after the episode aired)
AND the weekly promo.
But you had to look because these videos would be on the channel interspersed with clips and promos from other CBS shows.
The CBS youtube still has the daily B&B scene clips,
but they stopped posting the weekly promos on youtube a few months ago.

The official Y&R youtube channel
would have daily scene clips for Y&R (after the episode aired)
AND the "Next Week on Y&R" preview,
AND the weekly promo.
That YT channel still has the daily Y&R scene clips,
and the "Next Week" preview.
but they stopped posting the Y&R promos on youtube a few months ago.

MEANWHILE ...

The weekly B&B promos (and an *occasional* episode clip) would be posted onto the official B&B accounts for twitter, facebook, and instagram.

The weekly Y&R promos (and an *occasional* episode clip)
would be posted onto the official Y&R accounts for twitter, facebook, and instagram.
The "Next Week on Y&R" preview would be posted on the Y&R facebook and youtube accounts but not on twitter or instagram.

That was the system for many years.
As I said above, several months ago, they stopped uploading the weekly promos for both shows to youtube.

MEANWHILE, in the past year, both B&B and Y&R would often release the promo to one of the featured actors in the promo, and that actor would release the promo on their personal social media.  Sometimes the actor got to release it a day early. This didn't happen every week but it was fairly often.  Then the show's accounts would release the promo at regular day/time.

At one point, you could get the weekly promos for both shows on the official twitters and instagrams, but not youtube or facebook.

Then they changed how they posted the promos on facebook.
The B&B and Y&R facebook accounts used to post the promo as
regular "facebook videos".
But a few months ago, they changed it so that the promos were
"facebook reels".
And recently (maybe month or two ago?),
they stopped posting the weekly promos on the Y&R and B&B twitter accounts.

So now we were at this:

  • Y&R and B&B promos only on instagram and on facebook reels,
but not on twitter or youtube.
But still sometimes the promos were also on actor personal accounts.
  • "Next Week on Y&R" on facebook video and youtube.
  • Daily episode clips for both shows posted onto yt, and sometimes fb or ig,
    after the episode airs.

Starting week of December 4th they stopped posting the promos completely for both the CBS/B&B accounts and the Y&R account.

Starting week of Dec. 4th, all that was left was
just the Next.Week.on.YR  (and the daily clips for both shows)
in their usual locations and that's all.

With all of THAT happening I found it very interesting
that for week of Dec. 11th,  B&B producer Casey K seems to have created a different sort of promo, made "in house" as you said, uploaded onto his personal accounts and on the show's free international youtube instead of on the CBS youtube.

And no promo so far from Y&R for week of Dec. 11th.  Just the usual "NextWeek" preview.

Several months or a year ago, both shows would release the weekly promo on YT, FB, IG, and twitter, but it's been a long time since they used all four.

(I know that was long-winded but my point was that there have been changes happening over several months: different methods used; and then incremental lessening of availability).

That’s a good point. Of the three, Kimberlin is at least a good actor.
