Oh, God, are we really gonna get excited about who the devil might possess next!?

I hated this storyline when JER was writing it, and I hate it even more now, because at least Jim Reilly took it (somewhat) more seriously than Club Kid Ron Carlivati does.  Stories about demonic possession have no business appearing on DAYS -- and frankly, I'm with Robin Strasser and Jane Elliot.  I think actors, writers, producers and directors in general need to be a little more careful about what they bring into people's homes.  Because, this [!@#$%^&*] is something you don't mess with, especially for "entertainment purposes."

I wish this story would end, and end for good, and never be brought up again.  Then, I want someone to contact a host of religious leaders -- priests, rabbis, shamen, you name it -- and perform an exorcism to rid the studio of whatever demons these two stories have unleashed, because if you ask me, they're precisely the reason why DAYS has been on the decline for over two decades.

Besides seeing ED back this revisit has been a waste of time. Nothing has happened!!  Carlivati is just mocking the original one. Is anyone really afraid of Mardevil? It's the comedy hour....It's something you'd see on the Carol Burnett Show...As The Stomach Turns.

I think all art is valid because it showcases different perspectives of an existence where everyone has different ideas about the world around them so the broader it is the more it allows for natural gravitation towards one energy or another.

That said, you're right.

Look how Ron conflates rape with seduction. Seems valid in his mind but wholly unhealthy and not something society should ever be confused about. Same with putting straight characters in situations where they're constantly held up as pieces of meat for lustful gay characters.

How is that helpful to society or entertaining at all? Sure, sexuality is broad and the world is more open but a character like Leo is counter-productive in my opinion.

On soaps, there's a range of behavior most societies would deem unacceptable but when you start confusing wrong action with societally acceptable it's a slippery slope.

In the end it comes down to taste, which Ron lacks. There's a tactful way to tell similar stories.

Personally, I think it would be fun from an entertainment perspective to have the devil jump into random characters once a decade or so. I know it's (arguably) not the right medium but it's baked in history and personally, I think it's fun to see different actors give different takes of the same "character."

That said, they could also never do this again and I'd be fine with it. This was so botched I think anything that might come after would be marred by negative thought association for this current "retelling."

Ron should be embarrassed.

The thing is, that the devil could've been an easy excuse to reconfigure the canvas and use the devil's influence as a tool to drive new plotlines and have people that you necessarily wouldn't expect in storylines together. I doubt it's over as of now, the devil hasn't done much. I guess he influenced Lucas to kidnap Sami? And the Jan thing, which might or might not have long-term consequences if she ends up pregnant. But most things the devil's done has been quickly wrapped and resolved within a week or so.

I think they should've gone all out on the Charlie/Ava thing. Have Charlie murder that mob guy, nobody believes Ava that it was Charlie and she goes to trial. Use some of that Peacock money to invest in a proper courtroom set so that we can get out of the police station.

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
