This is probably for the best. There is so much children's programming now, it could probably merit its own ceremony.

Also, it was always a bit weird when they'd show a clip of Erica Kane slapping someone in the opening montage, then follow it up with Big Bird waving or something.

.

Television is now so fragmented and specialized that it is now beginning to look like having a smorgasbord of programming in one show where every category can get equal attention no longer seems feasible.

“Daytime” vs. “Primetime” seems like such an antiquated 20th-century distinction in this age of streaming. Most of the Daytime awards are handed out to web properties nowadays, and a lot of the Primetime awards are going to Netflix, etc.

The Daytime Emmys always felt like such a hodgepodge of genres compared to the primetime awards, but it feels even weirder now. I guess this addresses some of that by creating genre distinctions.

This makes sense with how programming is distributed today. A lot of youth programming is not only on in the daytime from a limited amount of stations. Back in the day when most kids shows were on the major networks it was okay especially since other than animation a good deal of it was performed on the east coast like multiple soaps. Not surprised due to how little focus youth shows have had on the Daytime Emmys for many years. At least now we won’t have people being upset or confused about silly things like how unfair some legend in children’s programming gets the lifetime achievement award instead of a soap star.
