I’m starting a thread for news on mounting media layoffs as well as criticism of the media and journalism. Stuff that doesn’t necessarily or directly touch on politics.

Dire warnings after BuzzFeed laid off 15 percent of their workforce:

Daniel Dale was forged in the fire of Toronto's mayor Rob Ford and emerged triumphant. Go Dale!

It seemed inevitable in modern culture that some troll like Ann Coulter would go after Gus Walz for attention.

But, elevating the discussion to suggest that there are multiple trolls.  Or, that their opinions matter in any way.  Only serves to propose that everything is up for debate, including basic decency.

Ann Coulter has zero impact on the culture writ large.  She barely has a platform, with 2 million followers and less than 20% engagement on most of her tweets.  And we should not promote her method of using hate speech in order to make a buck.

Ann Coulter is probably to the left of today's GOP, which is insane, as she's a racist who doesn't want women to vote. But she isn't saying anything most of the party isn't saying on this topic. They are hateful, ugly people.

On the other hand @DRW50 TMZ has a very funny video of JD Vance ordering donuts, and the woman behind the counter asked not to be photographed with him.  He goes on to introduce himself as the person running for VP on the GOP ticket, and she responds, “okay” as if to say she knew who he was, and did not want to be a part of his BS today.

Meanwhile:

@DRW50 will appreciate, as I do, a kid pranking the always-unctuous access king and Republican Congressional cheerelader Jake Sherman:

@Vee That's hilarious.

Pete remains very good at breaking down gotcha questions - that remains his best gift to the party. The media will never stop painting the picture that Republicans can say whatever they want and if Democrats don't take the high road, they are hypocrites and bad people.

That Politico guy seems terrified.

They've got to stop doing those "let's ask these 'undecided' voters what they think" panels.  They're hardly scientific, and just about all of 'em are rigged as hell, too.

Their being rigged is just what they want. I just hope no one falls for them.
