The #2812 episode number means that 9 episodes were pre-empted between January 16 and August 7, 1967 (which does seem like a lot, for around this time... perhaps because of Vietnam?)

It also means that only 4 episodes would have been pre-empted between April 2, 1956 and January 16, 1967 (which, especially in combination with 9 episodes having been pre-empted between January and August of 1967 seems fishy). We actually already have 5 pre-emptions accounted for (all in 1956/1957), so either the episode number is wrong, or one of the pre-emptions was wrong.

Now, because of the August 7-25, 1967 episode numbers (taken from a collection of scripts) we do know that, either way, not many episodes were pre-empted in these early years. Even if the January 16 episode number would not be correct, there would still have only been 13 pre-emptions between 1956 and 1967 (5 of which, again, are already accounted for). So the episode number might not be far off... for this reason, I'll leave it in there for now, with question marks.

I don't think that Eileen Fulton left on one episode and Pamela King became the new Lisa on the next episode.

Lisa left town for a while.   Supposedly, she was on a train and was raped by men all the way from Texas to Califonia.   When Lisa returned the show (I cannot recall if she was in Oakdale or Rockport), she was so ashamed that she would not uncover her face.   Alma was very worried about her and finally got Lisa to show her face.    My mother and sister jumped and screamed that "That's not Lisa!" at this point.   However, it was Ms. King who was taking the role as Lisa #2.

Eileen Fulton may have retuned one day after Pamela King left (I cannot remember), but I am certain that Ms. Fulton was not on the show for a while when Ms. King began in the role.

Wow! this is great! I don't really follow ATWT but this should be interesting to read! especially if it may help confirm when other soaps had preemptions etc...

was ATWT not effected by watergate in summer 1973??

I remember hearing about the rape story (that reminds me Irna Philips in many ways had those JER vibes - only she was a better writer) but I keep forgetting she was recast in those years. I can't imagine fans reacted well.

Oops... It most certainly was. Forgot to put that in, so thanks for reminding me!

I have updated the 1973 section, marking all episodes between May 17 and June 27 as 'Watergate?' based on the wikipedia entry for the Watergate hearings. I know the show was regularly pre-empted during this period, but I have no idea if that would go for every day, or just the more 'sensational' parts of the hearings. I also have no idea if there were hearings every day, or if they were stretched out over the period.

Updated.

Since we're not sure if it's the EF departure date or the PK debut date that's wrong, I'll cross out both. It's so frustrating to me that the Soapcentral profiles seem to be based on dates that are completely fabricated... seriously, some of the dates listed in those profiles even fall on the weekend. So I'm always happy when we can either verify or disprove these actor arrivals/departures.

I remember reading this in the Scrapbook, and having this exact reaction. I'll look up the passage later, when I have more time.

Great finds! I've edited both sections.

The #3582 episode number means that:

- 16 episodes were pre-empted between August 25, 1967 and January 30, 1970

- 29 episodes were pre-empted between January 30, 1970 and April 27, 1979

It's definitely a bit frustrating to not no for sure which exact days didn't air for Watergate.......if only there was a supersized soap database for ALL soaps.....besides Days and AW....

    • Lol. Right?  I mean the show could have framed the 60th anniversary in a different way, but the narrative was celebrating Tom and the hospital. Also, what a weirdly sexist bunch of posts about women's nail polish.  Like, yes, this is Days problem lol.  Stacy Haiduk isn't a good Kristen because she doesn't wear nail polish?  Are we in the 1950's???

    • Anyone have predictions on whats going down at Winterfest and what are yall wearing lol ?
    • Thanks for posting this, how fun!  LOL at this 80s windbreakers. I just love MOL - he's so funny and charming to me. I'd love to have met his mother, she sounds like a fun lady.
    • I mean, it is called the Dr Tom Horton Free Clinic, so it was kind of... a given he'd be talked about predominately? No?
    • Yeah, I wasn’t really moved by the gala either. They talked so much about Tom… but what about Alice? Mickey? And Bill! Honestly, I would’ve preferred the Hortons just sitting in the living room at the Horton house, reminiscing, with more rare flashbacks. No need for a big gala.
    • Gosh, Suzanne is such a classic - truly a beautiful person, inside and out.
