Unless I'm overlooking it, the Horton living room is nowhere to be found on this list -- and if the fact that we went an entire month without seeing the HLR, or that we saw the DiMera mansion set more than any other, doesn't encapsulate what I feel is wrong with DAYS these days, then I don't know what does.

Didn’t Ron call Deidre the queen in his speech?  That’s how you treat a queen.  You use them in 27 of 85 episodes.  I feel like I saw Alice Horton more consistently as a kid and she was way older than Hall, and had never been a romantic lead on the show.

BTW, I’m not saying I think Marlena should be the focus of the show.  It’s just an example of the wrongs this show and the genre keep doing.

The Horton Living Room only appeared in the first episode of the year (1/2) and hasn't been seen since.

These are the stats from January-present, so Tyler has been a part of the cast since the first episode this year. Chandler returning in 2017 has no effect on the 2018 stats.

Most of the cast has pitiful guarantees. Most barely have a 2 episode guarantee. Tyler, Billy and Marci have the highest, followed by Galen and Kristian, so that's why they're on the most. It's horribly unbalanced but something has to change. That's why it always feels like the Rope and Chabby show. Ron more or less HAS to write for them.

Even with two episodes a week there is a better way to balance out the show.  Even people with one episode a week should be used to enrich the canvas and be used.

Corday also need to spend money where people want to see it.  In a magic world where Sami and EJ were to return full time you know they would both be given at least 3 shows a week in their contracts.  Marci and Billy and Tyler should not have the only story on TV all week.  They can’t carry the show.

Neither could EJ and Sami

I agree there has to be a better way to go about it. But I don't think people realize it's hindering the writing process. I'm not saying sympathize with Ron, I do believe he could do better and I think he's figuring out using someone (like Marlena only had 2 appearances last month but was in 11 episodes this month ...) and resting them. But that makes for an uneven show to me. I don't want to see someone used heavily and then disappear. So I agree there has to be a better way.

But no one seems to really be getting how much of a problem 1 or 2 episode guarantees ARE. You CANNOT have a cohesive show when you can't mix the canvas up. People aren't understanding that characters are only being used in their own storyline because of the pitiful guarantees. Some of you are too focused on Ron. I'm trying to talk about a lot of the same issues that have plagued past writing regimes too. This is NOT a Ron problem. It's a DAYS problem. Ron's bad storylines are a problem. Yes. They are.

Without a doubt, the production model is awful, and the production period is severely lacking in energy.  No matter what he writes, the producers aren’t pushing it for drama, or fun, they are pushing for completed shows not matter the cost.

But as awful as I found much of Dena, Josh, and Tomlin’s era as HW in the last 5 years, they were all able to work within the constraints better.  We saw more stories, and more of the cast.

Ron writes micro stories around his long term goals, and seems to be having a difficult time adjusting to this production model with his style.  This style was very present on GH, and on OLTL I remember him often dropping things and getting back to them with little momentum in between (except the characters we always saw like Rex, Todd, McBain etc).  So I think the blame is also his.

He needs to look at his cast  limits and his canvas and move people like Maggie and Julie and Victor and Belle and all the other characters not really ever starring in their own stories into the stories with he cast he is using to creat community and give the overexposed a breather, even in their own plots.  And Corday needs to be prepared to use some money for the right story and characters.

I feel like the last few writers were exactly the same. I saw cast isolation. Lack of stories. But I agree with you on everything else.

I do know that is how Ron writes. I noticed it on the bloated GH and OLTL. I'm still salty at the months AJ spent in prison off-screen and how he shipped Duke and Anna off to Washington after the story ended. He has his own faults and I see some of his bad habits. The DID story has his name ALL over it. LOL.

But these ARE problems that have gone on through other regimes. I think Ron's style just highlights how bad things are behind the scenes.

I do think at times episode guarantees were a little better so I do think there have been times in past regimes where it's been a more cohesive show but it always falls apart around January ... IDK.

The writing is a problem and has been for a LONG time on this show but the production problems are also a contributing factor. There are a lot of things just not working. They need to find a way to better the guarantees and Ron needs better structure (among better stories ....). But when you can only truly write for a select amount of people ...
