February 25, 20197 yr Member Now that was a proper upset. Olivia Colman. Speech of the night. Poor Glenn. She’s the Susan Lucci of acting Oscars.
February 25, 20197 yr Member Olivia Coleman winning was definitely the biggest upset so far. A lot of people were predicting that Glenn Close would win, and if not her than Lady Gaga. Olivia seemed very shocked that she won, though she was gracious and seems like a nice lady. Edited February 25, 20197 yr by xtr
February 25, 20197 yr Administrator Yes! Olivia Colman with the upset! Once again her speech was great and funny. I love her British kookiness and humour.
February 25, 20197 yr Member I think that Green Book winning is another bit of an upset. I had thought that Roma would win it, with all of the awards it has won so far tonight.
February 25, 20197 yr Member Green Book was always looming, but man, this is going to upset a LOT of people. Just now, Vee said: Crash: Part II! Indeed.
February 25, 20197 yr Member Y'know, I purged all my rage on Crash and some other stuff, so I don't get into the increasingly OTT Oscars psychodrama most years anymore. It's become so hot take histrionic and cliquish. When the Oscars disappoint me now all I can do is laugh at this point. It's not the worst thing to ever win but it's still so white-centric, derivative, schlocky and full of issues. It is a shocker, but it's typical of the older Academy voters. You'd think they'd have gotten it out of their system after Driving Miss Daisy and Crash but here we are. I like BP a lot but def did not think it deserved Best Picture. I sure would've preferred it over this though. Edited February 25, 20197 yr by Vee
February 25, 20197 yr Member They spread the wealth tonight: I think every Best Picture nominee went home with something. I thought The Favourite might come up empty until Olivia won.
February 25, 20197 yr Member The Oscars have been kind of weird for various years now regarding the Best Picture field. Multiples time you'll have films that are heavily favored/nominated/win multiple awards lose out to a film that barely wins any awards. There have been some surprises sneaking in and winning Best Picture. And you also have quite a few films that no one has hardly seen or care to see winning Best Picture. February 25, 20197 yr Member Someone is very upset about Glenn Close not winning 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/UiM7Ptcbcu— molly 🐢 (@hardnougat) February 25, 2019 Remember when Green Book won Best Picture? Man, that choice did not age well.— Mark Harris (@MarkHarrisNYC) February 25, 2019 My guess is that ‘Roma’ would have won if it wasn’t for the preferential ballot. Many Oscar voters that I talked to truly loved it, but also a bloc voted against it because they didn’t want a Netflix movie to land best picture. #Oscars— Ramin Setoodeh (@RaminSetoodeh) February 25, 2019
