This was my first episode watching live. It was a bit of a slog at first but I enjoyed it quite a bit through the last 40 minutes. Of course I have mostly been fine with this revival so far so maybe people who haven't liked it hated this one - that's their right of course...

It says a lot about Kyle Maclachlan's talent that he can make such a simple phrase ("case files") so sad and oddly moving. I sometimes feel uneasy about the Dougie scenes, as sometimes I feel like we're being invited to laugh at him or people like him until the "real" Cooper returns, but I'd be lying if I said the scenes didn't interest me as Cooper returns bit by bit. I imagine a lot of people are already sick of waiting, which I can understand. Of everything I think I liked the last scene with Cooper in front of the G-Man statue the best - I continue to be so pleased to get real closing credits (I had forgotten how much I missed them on television...I'm going to hate going back to not having them), and the closing theme was just gorgeous.

The other scene I remembered from this was when Cooper was staring so sadly at "his" son in the car, even to the point where his wife seemed unnerved. Again great acting from Kyle (he's impressing me so much here) and it makes me wonder if that is going somewhere, if he knows this "son."

Kyle really could have been a silent film star - he has the expressions and emotions down pat. Born in the wrong era.

Does anyone else wonder if the other kid at the junkie house is also Dougie's? Or is that a reach? He seems to have one side of Cooper (curious) while Dougie's son has more of a Black Lodge vibe to him. I did laugh when those idiots blew up - I don't know if that was intended or not.

I didn't even realize that the blonde guy giving the interview was Mike until someone told me. Well I always liked Mike but he always was a bit nondescript. The Mike/Nadine fan in me was oddly pleased they showed up in the same episode. And how gorgeous did Wendy Robie look? I was so played out with Nadine's amnesia story I'd forgotten how much I missed her.

Of course Dr. Jacoby is a Beck, Alex Jones-esque quack. I had to laugh because what else would he be. And the people listening to him were pretty much the perfect choices.

The scene of Shelly's daughter Becky on a high was one of the first chances I've seen Amanda Seyfried get to act in a long time. I didn't realize how much Amanda looks like Madchen Amick until I watched this episode. Is that guy supposed to be a new version of Bobby? Why do I have a feeling that this will end much worse for them than it did for Shelly and Bobby? If Bobby is her father, he's probably going to beat that guy's ass, unless they're in some secret deal. I doubt it, given that this guy barely seemed to be able to walk or talk.

Great to see Ernie Hudson too. After the first 4 episodes I kept dreading the moment where he ogled the female officer or we learned they were secret lovers - I'm gad that wasn't the case (unless I missed something?).

Jim Belushi playing who Jim Belushi of recent years would likely play. He did a decent job though. I felt sorry for the casino guy. Now I know why he was so terrified about the jackpots...

I can't tell you how my heart warmed when Norma worried about Shelly and put her arm around her. I've had some issues with the writing for the women in the first 4 episodes so this felt more like a return to the old Twin Peaks in the treatment of female characters having a bit more of their own lives, even if it's still just about Becky's love life for now. I was so happy to see Norma again - I knew we'd see her but still when we actually did, I just had to smile, the way I did with Nadine. Boy I've missed her and what her presence signifies. The warmth and kindness we need more of on the show, or, hell, in real life.

I was glad to see the Bang Bang Bar scenes having a bit more presence to them, and again that stuff was probably the clearest to the '50s motif of the old show, as the Matthew McConaughey knockoff did his cool bad boy smoking, entrancing the girls, but then we got a jolt that is more fitting of the modern version, as he turned out to be a real [!@#$%^&*], not some sweetheart underneath. I was glad that they had the Emma Stone knockoff try to help her friend, even as she couldn't really do anything. I hope we see more of her.

I kept trying to figure out if Bob Cooper knew something about the warden and that's what "Mr. Strawberry" meant, but I guess it was just to show them that he was going to make them uneasy before his call. When they had the flashback I thought he was going to smash his head against his cell mirror and run for it - I'm glad they avoided that cliche.

I don't know who the band was in this episode (Trouble, apparently), but I thought the main guy on guitar was really hot.

I loved the episode. It was closer to the original series' format, too, and it seemed like there was more Twin Peaks this time.

MacLachlan's work as the evil doppelganger is terrifying. When he made the PD go haywire, I thought for sure all those people were dead. And then he turns right around and plays Cooper's near-total walking catatonia incredibly well. And that stunning moment when he looked at Sonny Jim and cried. I hope he gets recognized for this triple performance.

So exciting to see the RRCafe. Norma and Shelly talking about how they've heard those warnings before. That shot of Becky high was beautiful.

They made us wait 5 episodes to reveal that Jacoby is a nut who sells (fake) gold [!@#$%^&*]-digging shovels.

OMG, Lynch. And of course Nadine watches that! lmao. Do we know the other watcher in the woods? Did I miss something or is he a new character.

Very interesting stuff at the Bang Bang (the episode didn't end with them!). That Eamon Farren was terrifying and sexy at the same time.

Hmmm interesting, Briggs fingerprints being found all around.

So the people after Dougie & the evil doppelganger have some connection.

Jim Belushi as a glorified extra! (so far). That's funny.

I meant the guy that Becky was with. They weren't the same guy were they? Or were they?

Oh I forgot the bit with Frank Truman and his wife. I was disappointed she seemed to be from the same generic blonde overwrought pool as Matthew Lillard's wife, but maybe she will be a bit less of the nagging wife cliche if she makes any future appearances.

It was strangely nice to see Jade again too, continuing to move the plot along for Cooper as best she can, even if she doesn't seem to know it. As underwritten and plot-devicey as she is she still is closer to me to the old TP women than most of the women on the new revival. I'm glad she survived another episode alive.

That's Ben's brother Jerry. We saw him briefly in episode 1 talking about his dispensary. I guess we needed confirmation so we got to see him in full flow here.

No, I've loved her for awhile; Jany Levy. It was a such a shame when she left Shameless as the first Mandy, but Suburgatory was a great little show, too. However, thanks for bringing it to my attention that man interviewing Becky's boyfriend was Rob. I couldn't help but feel Amanda Seyfriend's character will die tragically somehow.

What is the name of the actress who played Dougie's work colleague who helped him into the bathroom? I've seen her in something but can't remember where.

I also second YRBB's question. Do we already know the guy in the woods who was listening to Dr. Jacoby? I couldn't place him if so.

I am loving this return as much as I've always loved Twin Peaks. I'm along for the ride and am enjoying every last morsel Lynch is giving us. I think people that have problems with this return were likely always going to no matter what.

Lynch is making us wait for Audrey's presence. That is the cruellest thing of all. Maybe her presence in "Dougie's" life will be what snaps him out of it completely? Of course, he hasn't had any pie yet ...

Oh, of course that's Mike! I knew he looked familiar lol

I agree -- the lead guy from Trouble was VERY hot.

I feel like the show so far has a very strong violence-against-women motif, so a lot of that is purposeful, but it's true -- it's time to see more than just murder/attack/objectification/sexualization -- although I think it all has its place and reason.

Ah, yes! Thanks.

I really love the fact that he's obsessed with coffee. They've taken the catchphrase and used it to extreme lengths. It'll be fun to see how much fun they can have with all of it.

God, that was good.

BTW: That was Obnoxious Deputy Chad ("I'm gonna go have a talk with my pine cone") getting bribed by Richard Horne at the bar.

I didn't spot Heidi the German waitress, I'll have to go back and look. Sheryl Lee is credited as "Laura Palmer" in every episode it seems, even when she just appears in the opening.

There are so many small, sinister pieces of pure Lynchian artistry here - the jail breakdown, the creepy stuff in Buenos Aires (last known location of Phillip Jeffries from FWWM), Becky's coke reverie. Even little things like showgirl Candie (played by Amy Shiels) letting her hand dreamily float about as the Mitchum brothers beat up their employee. And the final scene in the Roadhouse. Yes, the show is about violence against women. It always has been.

The moment with Sonny Jim was both touching and fascinating - and featured one of the first new pieces of Angelo Badalamenti music in the show. His eyes blinked backwards, like Laura's in the Lodge.

I still think the little boy and his druggie mother in Rancho Rosa are the Tremonds.

One more tidbit: Becky and Steven appear to be married. Becky goes by his name in the credits (Burnett). I was very happy to see Jade again, too. All the pieces are sliding together slowly. And even Harry is still in the narrative.

Candy Clark (Doris Truman) always cracks me up.

The song from the end - Johnny Jewel and Chromatics (from the first episode - Jewel is part of the group) did a ton of music for the new show. This is from his new album which seems to have several soundtrack pieces:

I didn't catch that. I guess he is definitely going to be a heavy then (and hopefully die a horrible death). At least that makes it less likely Bobby is involved in the drugs...

Someone said that one of the guys in the meeting had tried to sell at the sheriff's office in one of the first episodes before Lucy scared him off.

    • Also, isn’t there supposed to be a storyline with Mariah and Tessa? Mariah cheating or something (keeping some kind of secret) and they were only on screen 2 and 3 times this month. Like what? How am I supposed to care when I barely see them?
    • Definitely wouldn't trust Dinah right now haha.  But that's great to know Billy comes back soon!  I'm excited for that. If he's at the boardinghouse, then I guess he does get closer to Nola perhaps, and then he'll be around Peter/Bridget and J, who is currently in his orbit along with Michelle and Dahlia, and Marcus is at the boardinghouse, so maybe they go the teenage story route most of this time until Billy gets back.
    • Sounds like me, but I prefer to be referred to as Contessa. We all know I can go a long time not paying attention to certain things.  And, if I might add, hey there dude, you effed up pretty good this time and I think this was your last chance. So don't let the door hit you in your behind as you go BYE MOMMY!
    • That did cross my mind at first, but I'd be more inclined to believe it if this didn't involve Trump. I'm not at all sure he is capable of being that sneaky. Of course, there's always a possibility I guess that his advisors are doing it without telling him, but that seems awfully risky. Trump is such a loose cannon you can never predict what he's going to do or say.
    • Whoa. She should have fought like hell to get that. Was it the greatest show ever? No, but it had a fantastic cast and was practically guaranteed to last multiple seasons because of its star power. Could have certainly led to bigger and better things. If it had flopped she could have always gone back to soaps. Judith Light broke through on a sitcom where she was basically second banana to Tony Danza. That grew into a very busy and distinguished career. The woman is still regularly booked to this day.
    • I could understand her being frustrated by the fact that she'd been in the business 10+ years at that point, and probably couldn't even get in the door. But then again, she'd already gone out for pilot season once (that we know of) and she and  her agent knew a 35-ish woman had a very difficult time in Hollywood. I know she did a few guest spots, but other than Designing Women, nothing I saw--not even a Murder She Wrote, and that show had tons of ex-soapers on it. I mean, God bless Marilu Henner, but even having been on Taxi, she couldn't get arrested for years either.
    • I didn't rewatch that period, so I'm not really sure how much Bill is on. I recall something about him living at the boardinghouse. I think Van made Matt his guardian, and why she didn't name Josh would be a mystery to me, other than the HW decided they needed to keep Bill in Matt's sphere. Nola is also his aunt, although they don't know each other well, and Van wouldn't have trusted her anyway. There's Dinah---but she's unreliable. Billy gets out of jail around NYE.

    • That's on Kimmer. As someone posted above...she was offered roles in pilots but she would be part of an ensemble or supporting. She didn't want that so she came back to GL. I don't know what she thought would happen..someone offering her "Here's Kimmer!" or The "Zimmer Comedy Powerhouse Hour" variety show..but her housefrau fans did not have the same pull in HW as they did on the soaps. Forbes and Watros knew that you had to take small parts to get noticed ands start a career in primetime. I know she was in consideration for the wife in Evening Shade, but when you go up against Marilou Henner, the soap diva looses. I could see her frustrated in a role like that, where she has to be the understanding wife with a bit of sass, but she could have made it work, if it wasnt for her huge ego.  I think it would have been an issue haveing all the powerhouse comedy actors surrounding...(lets face it..Alice Ghostly woudl have wiped the floor with her...) but it would have been a good launching padd.
