Members AbcNbc247
Interesting how Nina Laemmle was always blamed for the massacre. When we were discussing late 70s-early 80s Days a while back in the classic Days thread, it got pretty clear that all the firings and all the changes were spearheaded by Al Rabin. They started as soon as he got there. Luckily, he was able to turn the show around after all this. And was able to last through most of the 80s. Members safe
Ryan's Hope - I was wondering how the ratings were for the opening of the Crystal Palace and the celebrity guests (Otto Preminger, Van Johnson, and Betsy Palmer) at the party the week of the 12th. Another story was building up, and the following week of May 19th was the end of Tiso and big with Jack/Siobhan/Joe. I recall a column, sometime near this time, and the same column that announced that Sarah Felder was let go, also said the show was having "ratings trouble". MAY 12 - MAY 16, 1980 RYAN'S HOPE Dee threatened to sue Faith for prescribing the wrong medication for little John when she was drunk. Kim continued to use Michael to make Seneca jealous. Frank and Jill argued over Jill's work priorities. Dee introduced Rae to everyone as Roger's lover at the successful opening of the Crystal Palace. MAY 19 - MAY 23, 1980 Jack was wounded before he broke Tiso's neck. Siobhan refused to run off with Joe, who split after swearing he wasn't involved in Mary's murder. Siobhan retaliated that his drug business was the cause. Barry convinced Dee not to sue Faith. Frank talked Faith out of resigning since little John is mending. Joe was reported murdered. Kim lied to Michael that Seneca had led her down the garden path.

Members JoeCool
Why would CBS do that?
Members kalbir
I have no clue. GL promos from the early 1980s are hard to find on YT.
Members Broderick
I expect that's kids getting out of school for the summer & checking out Y&R to see if the hour-long expansion is as bad as they've heard. And yep, sure enough -- it is. They'll turn it back off. lol.
Members kalbir
The kids weren't checking for the cult storyline.

Members kalbir
Hahaha. I best believe the following summer the boys were checking for Nikki climbing the pole.

Members Broderick
Well, there was PLENTY for everybody. They'd show Nikki wiggling around on-stage to Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby", and then Cash would be auditioning a line-up of new male escorts. ("Okay, guys, let's have a look at all of you without your shirts on.") And then Lorie Brooks would meet with her attorney but forget to wear her bra. And then Snapper & Chris's air conditioner would break, which would inspire Chris to suggest getting a better apartment, but Snapper would just shuck off his shirt and say, "We'll get by, Babe." (I attributed most of the gratuitous skin displays to John Conboy, but Bill Bell was clearly pretty complicit.)
