@JoeCool The ABC soaps got their highest ratings in the Northeast and on the West Coast, whereas the CBS soaps got their highest ratings in the South and Midwest, Chicago being the exception in the Midwest.

ABC soaps dominated the major media markets New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and I would also think they dominated Boston, Philadelphia; Washington, DC; San Francisco, Seattle.

I'm beginning to wonder if NBC soaps EVER were popular.  Maybe the high ratings for AW, DAYS and THE DOCTORS BITD were all just myths?  Like Steve and Betsy's wedding on ATWT being watched by 20 million people, or GL besting GH in the ratings for three weeks in 1984.

Not that this means much, but in my neck of the woods, I have rarely encountered an NBCD fan.  Most have been ABCD fans, with a few Y&R fans sprinkled in.

I've known loads of NBC fans. Rabid DAYS fans, unbelievably loyal AW fans & those people tended to watch the whole lineup, so definitely GENERATIONS & also SANTA BARBARA. That fell off sharply as of & after DAYS demonic possession 1.0. Whole lot of people gave up DAYS & half went to GH & half went to AMC. AW fans remained steadfast. Where did I live? In the South except for 8 years in Brooklyn. But, I knew so many soap fans online & they were everywhere, of course. So, there wasn't as much NBCific soap fan chatter for SUNSET BEACH & definitely not for PASSIONS. SEARCH also didn't pick up many folks.

The 1970s ratings thread proves it wasn't a myth.

It was proven earlier in this thread that GL won the time slot over GH May 28-June 1, 4-8, 11-15, 1984. Y&R was #1 those three weeks.

Growing up in the 1980s, the soap viewership hierarchy I knew was supercouple Days for the middle schoolers and high schoolers, ABC big three for the moms, CBS for the grandmas. In the 1990s it shifted a bit when All My Children and General Hospital gained a new group of 1990s teens viewers.

That was NBC's network decision, so I don't see why the Alabama station gets a story making it seem like it was an outlier or an Alabama-only decision. The network moved the "Days" time slot to 130 ET/1230 CT when the show expanded in April 1975 until March 1979 when NBC moved it to 1PM ET.  Any Central time zone affiliates NOT airing Days from 1230-130 CT from 1975-1979 were the outliers.

If they kept it at 1230 CT after 1979, that would be an outlier however, since that's when the affiliates moved it to 1ET /12 CT.
