Even so, they have never done this marathon if she hadn't made that announcement. It's one thing to have a marathon when someone has died, it's quite another when someone announces they may have 3 months to live.

Why?

Why cant she be celebrated and honored at this point instead of only after she dies. She is going to die, and it is going to be soon. She knows it, shes made everyone aware of it, and acting like it isnt happening isnt going to service anyone.

I don't know, it just seems...premature to me. It's wonderful to celebrate her life, and obviously it should be celebrated, but she's still here! She's not gone yet.

I agree with JP. There's nothing wrong with honoring her. I bet she'd even be touched by it. She's going to be gone before we know it, and to me this just furthur shows how much people love her and she can see that while she's still here

To me it shows what an impact she's made on people by doing this, and it's a way of saying "we love you" while she's still here

I think it's nice mostly because she'll get to see what an impact she had on people.

I wonder if TV Land will do something for her, I guess they might have done a one-off Rhoda marathon 10 years ago, but probably not today's TV Land.

I guess if she was ever on Hot in Cleveland they would have shown that (how four talented comic actresses can be on such a generally unfunny show I can't guess).

TV Land used to do one-off marathons for shows they don't outright have the syndication rights to when someone beloved died.

I recall they did a marathon of The Honeymooners a few years back when Art Carney died.

I don't think they have the rights to either show. MeTV, I'm assuming, can air Rhoda as well as MTM, since they have MTM and Bob (and also had Remington Steele for a lot of last year). Valerie/THF aired on ABC Family a few years ago (early morning slot) and also had a one-off airing on TV Land during their immense Warner Bros. 50th Anniversary weekend (which also included Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Alice, Eight is Enough, Harry O, Sisters, and tons of other shows they were definitely not airing regularly).

MeTV aired a promo for the special week last night, and I definitely look at it in a different light now. It's less about remembering her and more about "Hey, VH is amazing and a wonderful part of TV history. A event in her honor is long overdue."

Does tv land have the rights to mtm or rhoada? Has Valerie ever been shown since the 80's

They did at one point--I remember both being shown there for Nick at Nite's 20th anniversary in 2005, and of course both were on Nick at Nite together for years.

When PAX was still a channel, The Hogan Family was shown there. Not sure about Valerie, though.

I don't remember the marathon for AC in 2003 when he died, but I do remember them showing a long-lost episode from the Jackie Gleason Show (where it was originally a sketch), a year later (I taped it).

I suppose when Joyce Randolph goes, they'll do the same for her.

Gonna be a pretty short marathon!
