GH: Discussion for the Month of February

Who decided that someone has to be on a show for 10 years to be a vet? Where did that rule come from?

Jack Wagner was on the show for several years. He played a beloved character. He is a soap vet in the traditional sense that it is normally used.

That's what most soap actors and insiders consider to be a veteran (i.e. the 10 year rule). I believe it's also a contract thing too. If you are employed in Daytime for over 10 years, you are entitled to seniority and a higher paycheck. At least that is inside rumors, during the 90's and early 00's I am not sure how that idea has atrophied while Daytime has withered. I don't think you could call an actor a vet if they haven't been in the industry for less than 10 years, but you could easily be apart of a super couple and be considered a "legendary character" for only a portion of that time.

Where'd you find that with Frisco, i love it! I hope they do more for like Anna, Duke, Tracy etc...

I found the Laura one on GH's Facebook page, I'm assuming the Frisco one was there, too.

I had no idea that there was any real industry definition for a soap vet.

There is, and its basically 10-15 years more on than off. It used to come with beneifts as Skin said, but im not sure that holds up anymore. I mean, its not like a defined hard rule or anything, but its a general conscious.

Yeah I remember during the early 00's the vets would make a lot more then the newbies and that's why there was a greater focus on younger characters because the actors weren't as expensive as the vets. I remember hearing something like you could cast more then 5 newbies and that would make up just one vets salary.

Duke was part of it in the past, someone said he was originally involved in the pickle lila stuff

But the whole argument on why Tracy shouldn't run ELQ is based on the mob right now so AJ hires a mobster? Makes no sense.

It still makes no sense. You don't clean up your image by hiring someone with a dirty past... the same dirt that's gotten your image filthy in the first place.

The whole thing seemes pretty contrived because I don't think I understand what Duke has to offer the business world. AJ is an idiot, but he may be able to run ELQ. It's his legacy. Duke seems so out of place, so it has to be the set up to something else.

But I'm still reeling from that back woods sh!t with Luke and Carly. Ordinarily, I love their exchanges, but the innuendo (had to be unintentional) was disgusting. Carly telling her uncle she was naked in Todd's office, him them telling her he wanted to see her lovely visage (how many audience members are going to immediately know what that means) as he looks her body up and down? Thank god they had Carly clear that up for the audience. It was dirty and unnecessary! Must have been a Kreizman eppy!

I thought Kriezman was long gone? Didn't he get fired for some OLTL writer?

It makes no sense to me.

Amen!

To all Frisco burger fans. I'm here for ya. Just as long as you got my back if people bring up the fact that Kevin was only on GH for 4 years before PC.

Also. Quit saying Frisco...Just call him Mr. Jones. I keep thinking about this.

How is it out of place when Duke has been part of ELQ in the past and was part of pickle Lila originally lol
