Your LEAST Favorite Opening Sequences

Oh yeah I forgot about that. The original SB theme is so soapy and sexy; the generic music that they replaced it with totally sucked.

I know they felt that the original theme was too "primetime" soap (ie Melrosey--which was the original point of SB I thought anyway--to try to replicate the primetime soap format on daytime)--but I MUCH prefered the original theme as well.

I'm a fan of old school openings. Like Days of our Lives, or Another's World's interlocking rings, or All My Children's disembodied hand opening the photo album.

My least favorite openings are usually the openings where the theme song's lyrics are sung, such as Crystal Gale on Another World, or that OLTL theme by Peabo Bryson or Lou Rawls or somebody and the Johnny Mathis Loving theme or the Passions theme, which I thought was completely wrong for the show.

I'm also not a fan of cast pictures in openings because they're never updated regularly, but realize that's been more or less the standard since YR's charcoal drawings, so I need to get over it. I hate hate hate when actors and characters names are shown in the opening credits. Unless your name is Rosemary Prinz or Beverly McKinsey, you don't need opening credits billing.

The worse is when they flash both the character and actor name, and you can't even read either. The only time I felt it kinda worked was in AMC's gold opening (with just the character names).

That Johnny Mathis theme for Loving is so bombastic that it just makes me love--the last Loving song was better, but pretty dated as well. And yes, the Passions song was SO wrong IMHO--it sounds like a Lilith Fair reject--not representational of the campy show that we got at all.

Somebody Anna Theresa Cascio and Gordon Rayfield tried to make happen.

IIRC, he was involved with Maggie, he wanted to be a musician, but his stereotypical-as-hell parents (or did he have just his mom?) did not approve. I think he cheated on some medical exam, Maggie got pissed at him because (I think) she got blamed, and then I stopped caring.

Pretty much--don't forget that we were told the fascinating piece of info that Dr Joe had been having lunch at their chinese restaurant daily for years and years.

Yeah. That made no sense. Plus. No cast pics. So, we didn't get a chance to see Kristoff St. John and Jon Lindstrom in the opening for that. Yes, they were contract players on that show.

They flash the cast in three grouped photos right at the end. For about a 1/10th of a second each.

"Horrid" doesn't begin to describe it. For one, is there even a theme song anymore? What I hear, IMO, doesn't qualify even as an abbreviated version of one. Frankly, they were better off with just a simple "GH -- GENERAL HOSPITAL" title card.

It's the worst soap opening ever and that music was especially laugh worthy when it would start during scenes to lead into the opening.

I liked the Passions theme but it really didn't fit the show especially by the end. It was like a facade before the show began because It wasn't just a show about love and family in a quaint seaside town. Not with all that went on in that town.

G U I D I N G L I G H T is definitely the worst of all time. I remember when they announced the show would be getting a new opening, they talked about how much it would be a "call-back" to Hold On to Love and how viewers would love it, but the previous opening (with the life savers, which I LOVED) was much more in line with Hold On to Love than that scrolling mess. It was just...ugh. Cheap, amateur, bland, boring. How in the holy hell they thought that was an improvement over the previous opening is beyond me.

No wonder he had a heart attack. His blood pressure must have been through the --

Question (for everyone): who would you prefer, Jane French ("Breathe," PASSIONS) or Kati Mac ("Only Love," GUIDING LIGHT)? And remember, Sonny Corinthos has a gun to your head!

Only Love. Breathe just made me gag every time I heard it. Whereas Only Love filled me with that warm, familiar feeling of apathy.

This is sort of the British version of the Gottlieb-era OLTL opening. I was always a big fan of Emmerdale's sweeping orchestral theme, with those aerial visuals of the countryside. (I didn't even mind the ass in spandex.) But a couple of years ago, they changed the traditional opening into what looks like a car commercial and re-arranged the theme so that it sounds disjointed and replaced the strings with synths.

AWFUL:

The previous version, for comparison's sake:

That Emmerdale theme makes me angry. I try to block it out. The theme is generic and the titles look, alternately, like a car commercial, and a small child holding a camera, running through various cheap sets at breakneck speed.

You can't beat the original Emmerdale Farm theme though. A beautiful piece of music.

Breath. By far.

I just grabbed the gun away from Sonny and shot him in the balls. Cause, I pick neither.

The only lyric themes I like are the Peabo OLTL theme, You Take Me Away from AW, and the Johnny Mathis Loving theme.

I think that belongs in the "Gross & Perverted Soap Moments" thread. ;)

I would also like to turn the gun on myself.
