At first, I think. Michael Hogan's career as an airline pilot meant he wasn't around often, thus allowing JT to pull double-duty. IIRC, however, JT's role on the show expanded once Miller/Boyett fired Valerie Harper, with the explanation (or justification) that Michael would be home more for his sons in the wake of his wife's passing. That meant JT needed to leave DAYS (as Chris Kositchek) and work exclusively on "The Hogan Family."
Personally, I think JT left DAYS at about the right time, as Chris was one of those '70's characters that was becoming more and more irrelevant to the show as the '80's wore on. But I guess that's for another thread, lol.
