HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Members

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

makes one wonder why they'd want anything to do with PP this time around

PP has had over a year to work out the kinks & fix what may have turned actors away the first time around and what inevitably made the first attempt of keeping AMC & OLTL alive fail.

Which has me thinking we'll see a lot more new characters in the vein of Maya (who I would love to see back on the show).

Or it's going to be a ton of vets just in it for something to do. Which I would be perfectly fine with. LOL.

And he didn't have too many great things to say about PP. From his account of their meeting with the cast, it sounded like he literally smirked and rolled his eyes through the whole presentation.

Well, it was a no-brainer decision for him. He had to go with the more stable option. I will miss JY as JR. He's terrific.

Maybe we misjudged PP. Perhaps they were incredibly disappointed in themselves and embarrassed for not knowing what they were doing and failing. They might have been determined to make it work one way or another and they've been quietly working on this for the past several months. Maybe they just kept it close to the vest in fear of making a big splashy announcement and failing once more.

I hope it works out for them but the time for them to strike was earlier this year. Now over a year later, Im sure alot of potential viewers have moved on. I dont think it will be as succesful in mid 2013 and beyond as it may have been in early 2012

I completely agree Cheap, this is how I feel, and have even said as much. Almost a year and a half later for AMC is just too long

I think you're giving them too much credit. They did throw La Lucci under the bus by leaking (lying) to the press that she was demanding all sorts of things, essentially blaming her for the project failing initially.

This version isn't going to net the same amount of viewers. But can it be successful relative to other web series? I think so.

But maybe it could be just the right amount of time to think "I miss my show I want it back" or "I should've never stopped watching I didn't realize how much I love this show I want it back". My biggest fear is that a lot of people won't watch an online version of AMC or OLTL. Will 65% of the AMC and OLTL audience even know the shows are back since they aren't on TV? I never liked the idea of online. Call me unrealistic but my ideal place is on my big screen HD TV where I can DVR them and watch them when I get home.

I'm just being hypothetical, playing Devil's Advocate. I don't think Jeff and Rich are angels by any means. The truth is always somewhere in the middle.

I don't think the time gap is that big of a factor. If you love your show and its characters, your interest will be piqued and you'll tune in. Or you won't. But it's like saying that no one will watch a Dallas reunion or reboot because it's been too long and folks have lost interest.

Well, streaming video is increasingly becoming the norm and it's the future. I can see PP offering an app on a Roku or Apple TV which would give viewers the ability to stream the show and watch on their big screen TVs. Or the show could be offered on Netflix as an original, just like Arrested Development or Kevin Spacey's new show House of Cards.

Walt Willey hasn't been contacted. From his Twitter:

"Until I hear from Prospect Park, I'll be looking forward to seeing you on the road!"
