I mean u said that Donna is more popular than Rose.. So I just asked by what people? I Mean the DW fandom is quite toxic when it comes to favorites lol

What I mean is I think that Catherine Tate and Donna have a bigger profile and following among DW fandom in the last decade - time marches on and Rose was surpassed a bit in audience appreciation. It doesn't mean I don't like Rose, and it has nothing to do with toxic fandom or misogynists that hate Jodie Whittaker. An opinion isn't automatically toxic just because you disagree with it.

Anyway:

RTD mentions Noele Gordon in here.

Donna has been more popular than Rose for a long time now, I'd argue.

And now:

BBCA ran a poll for a 50th anniversary fan special, and Donna was overwhelmingly voted as the favorite companion. Apparently, that result didn’t sit well with the brand managers in the UK, especially since Billie Piper was returning as a “companion” for the 50th.

Some interesting stuff here from RTD:

He's suggested that the bi-generation/Toymaker's magic or whatever may have caused all the past Doctors bi-generate across their timelines and go on from their 'deaths' in future adventures, possibly in other splinter timelines (like the Tales of the TARDIS shorts). I think he's just riffing, but who knows.

I was a Jodie supporter but ok lol

The Ratings spoke for themselves with Jodie and how the fandom felt!

anyway…

Mel’s return was quite a letdown. Tegan and Ace could’ve brought back instead

The ratings were also higher for these specials than any DW since 2018.

I was really hoping that Billie Piper would finally return as Rose so I was a tad disappointed. I thought RTD loved Rose? I love Rose even more than The Doctor. Could we at least finally get that Rose Tyler: Earth Defender spinoff please???

I stopped watching DW a few episodes into Matt Smith’s run but I did watch The Day of the Doctor. I watched these specials for RTD and Tennant. Not a Donna fan. I have mixed feelings on them so the Xmas special will really determine for me if I will watch the upcoming season or not.

This one's for @DRW50

This is an evil prank, but a funny one:

I suspect that Shirley, Kate, Mel and whatever the Vlinx is are being set up for a UNIT spinoff in future, but I'm fairly sure all appear next series (we know Kate and Mel do).

A few bits apparently floating around from the sadly-unreleased-in-the-States InVision RTD commentary on this special:

Spoiler
  • Gatwa's Doctor is more confident and at peace with himself and says he's 'done the rehab' that he tells Fourteen he needs because he comes from after Fourteen's civilian lifespan that begins in this episode, where Fourteen does settle down, get help and heal his emotional wounds. Fifteen therefore telling him to do so is an example of the bootstrap paradox. It also allows RTD to put to bed the trauma arcs of the last 18 years.
  • The Toymaker causing bi-generation may have echoed throughout the past Doctors' timelines, causing each of them to bi-generate and survive anew from where they once perished in what RTD calls 'splintered timelines' - alternate universes. This enables the surviving Doctor actors to reappear in future material at any age. This does not mean they all now survived in the main timeline - pretty sure it's specifically meant to reflect Davison, Baker, McCoy, etc.'s appearances in the Tales of the TARDIS shorts, where they tell their companions they come from alternate timelines where they did not regenerate. Seems like those are the bi-generated Doctors in alternate timelines; they did not survive in the main continuity (thank God). "Sylvester McCoy woke up in a drawer, in a morgue in San Francisco, and Jon Pertwee woke up on the floor of the laboratory. [...] Colin Baker got up and sorted the Rani out."

Thanks for all the photos and trailers. I'd heard the Disney+ numbers aren't great, but I'm not that surprised as I don't think the show is that popular in the US these days.

It''s largely because they haven't actively pushed the specials. As RTD has said, the major Disney push begins with Gatwa now, the specials were a prologue for them.
