That's really hard. I loved Sunset Beach's two openings, General Hospital's 1990's opening was awesome, and One Life to Live and All My Children had some exciting one's. All the soaps have had good openings, IMO.

But in the end, I have to choose All My Children's early 1990's theme.

I always like openings that have the cast in them best. Shows in primetime don't do them much anymore.

I loved it when the theme would start just as the scene was coming to an end at a pivotal moment. That was such a great touch to the AMC theme.

When did soaps start adding characters names to the openings?

I believe it was in the early 2000's when Y&R began its trashy version to Nadia's theme. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (might be, since I vaguely remember some soap doing it in the 1990's for some reason).

Errol, I think that's a foreign version of SuBe's original opening, from a country where it probably aired in primetime. I'm almost positive that they never did cast names in the states. But maybe for a primetime special?

Yes, Y&R's "porn opening" was the first to use cast names as Bill Bell hated squish credits and felt his stars' names deserved to be seen. Before that, Rosemary Prinz and Beverlee McKinsey were among the very few to have their names in the opening titles.

I have many favorites, but I will concede that Y&R's is the most iconic.

which soap had the longest opening to air?

GL's Hold on to Love is about :50, and I bet the slow version of My Guiding Light was about as long.

That's what I thought as I never actually saw that version on TV. Thanks for clearing that up.
