Members Wales2004
I disagree with you. Elizabeth's character has not received favorable treatment over from Guza. He basically turned her into a baby producing tramp and limited her from being anything than a supporting character who gets pulled off the shelf to interact with whatever guy has no one and bump into/listen to Jason. Some probably see being paired with Sonny or Jason as achieving "pet" status. It means more air time but it doesn't mean the character is going to be written any better which is basically the case with all the female characters. Either they are completely weak over a man or they are psycho and in some cases both. The only reason Sam was temporarily damaged to make Elizabeth more sympathetic was because Guza thought Kelly Monaco was leaving the show. Elizabeth would have ended up being with Jason until they found another actress to be his mob moll. If they cared that much about Elizabeth, Jake would still be alive. Better yet, the only children Elizabeth would have had (and at least the first child) would have been Lucky's. This has been far from an appreciation thread for Elizabeth. It's been more like constant jarring over her being the worst mother ever. Some of her fans said they didn't want to talk about her anymore but I must've missed all the posts about how Elizabeth is the greatest ever. People who are passionate about soaps are generally passionate about the characters. I don't want to see a thread get bogged down by the same discusssion over and over again. But I do think that people have a right to object to a characterization with which they agree. For instance, calling Elizabeth out for you might be saying that she blames Sam for Jake's death. Anyone who sees it differently has a right to disagree and say so and does that mean that they are being ridiculous. I'm not extreme on any characters. I don't hate Elizabeth so I don't see everything she does as a form of evil. And I don't love her so I don't see her as being the model of perfection. I don't hate Sam either. I just don't like the character and that has more to do with Kelly Monaco's portrayal of her than the way she is written. I find Kelly Monaco to be low energy so I can't drum up enough emotion to even hate Sam. I thought it was just this show but she was pretty much blah to me in the movie she made with Rob Estes. I know it was just a Hallmark movie and I felt sorry for her character not because of her but because Rob Estes' character was a jerk to her character. But I swear she was on the verge of making that jerk sympathetic to me. She needs to let the sun shine into some of her performances, imo.

Members ChitHappens
From what I hear over the years, Guza never liked the character and finally got his wish when they canned RH. Much to his chagrin, she was rehire almost immediately.
Members Wales2004
This was pretty much my understanding.
Members SweetPea36
Michele Val Jean said Guza did not want to fire RH. I believe her. MVJ had nothing to gain by saying that when she did. I don't usually follow anyone on twitter, but I have followed her. I don't believe she would lie about it. Members ChitHappens
Would that be his decision?
Members SweetPea36
Usually it's between the HW and EP. In this case, it was Frons, the Creative Director of GH, who made the decision.
Members R Sinclair
Yes, it was a Frons decision.
Members Wales2004
I should have actually said that it was my understanding that Guza didn't really like the character Elizabeth. Since I'm pretty lost today, are you saying it was Frons' decision to fire RH? I figured the decision would have caused some backlash because I cannot guage how many fans she has but they seem to have been vocal in the past. Members Khan
Yep, with Gennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky standing on the sidelines, laughing. And sweet, little Chelsea? She'd get even by hooking up with Johnny...or Michael.
Members Cyberologist
Well said she was written like cah-cah under Frons/Guza/Phelps....As a fan of the actress/character I cut for her sometimes w/the haters but I call her out too ...this is just a TV show for me some fans take it to a whole other level...I haven't liked how Elizabeth has been written for a decade.even now (with the much needed whitewash) I'm having a few issues with what Carlintini is doing w/her. Again, it is Guza's style of storytelling to trash characters he's always done this.I never thought for a moment it would be his beloved Jason Morgan if anyone took the hit (under his watch) it would be Sam .... like everyone else e.g. AJ, Tony Jones, Ric Lansing, Jax, various villains....whoever else came up against Jason in story & got ran under the bus. Even Luckless (until Jake then JJ came along). IMO, Guza's history with vets returning & characters he didn't create (for the most part) he's trashed them.... The good news is he, Wolf, (& Carlintini) are spending "years" to continue to whitewash Sam; a new sweep a new Sam... Rumor has it this character was only to be written "with a positive focus" a mandate by Brian Frons, he;'s the one who kept veteran characters e.g. Kim McCullough's Robin Scorpio, Becky Herbst's Elizabeth Weber in "their place." re: marketing/branding the show Frons was a big fan of Jason Thompson's Patrick Drake..so was Guza so we got Leyla & Lisa... Those who think Sam McCall wouldn't be trashed for Jason Morgan (when everyone else did under his watch) doesn't know Bob Guza....whether the actress was returning or not she could have been written differently but she wasn't..She didn't have to bang her step daddy on her mommy's living room floor but that's how Guza rolls....he certainly wasn't going to make Jason the heavy in this horribly written triangle. IMO both women looked silly & ridiculous.. Guza isn't the one who disliked Becky's Elizabeth Webber from what I understand (over the years) it was always Brian Frons who had no use for her popularity & kept her down & out barefoot & pregnant...he would not allow her to be written a popular heroine. Guza said flat out he had nothing to do with her firing...Jill Phelps said, "she made a mistake" according to Rebecca Herbst. and its no secret Frons' devotion for Sam McCall & its been said she must be paired with a lead in top tier story, He also had a jones for Laura Wright/Carly Benson he always marketed & promoted them every chance he got . Whatever the case Elizabeth is catching a break w/writing after years (since Frons came on board in 2002) she's still lodged under the Jason Morgan bus...to make him look less like a deadbeat douchebag dad they wrote Elizabeth the biggest loser...now she's his biggest cheerleader... .Frons never understood the appeal of certain characters on his soaps....Elizabeth wasn't his IT girl but the over the top "intense" hateration started IMo when she hooked up w/St.JaSus. Members Cheap21
This show is 10% flashbacks and flashbacks of material which just aired in the previous episode. If I had one complaint from OLTL, it was the excessive use of flashbacks. It irritates me to no end that this has been brought over. You dont need to friggin remind us every segment what just happened. Dialogue can suffice especially when the flashbacks arent vital information that adds to the moment
Members JaneAusten
I think it's strictly a cost cutting measure. Days did a lot of that under Tomlin too.
