Members Gray Bunny
It sounds like, based on his tweets, that the powers-that-be don't want to guarantee him a storyline anymore, and he'd be a background character like Roman or Caroline, much like Doug and Julie became background characters in 1984 (and eventually left and then returned in reduced capacities). I think Reckell sees the writing on the wall and would rather not stick around for it. Days has screwed themselves because they haven't had a decently developed younger generation in nearly 10 years. Members sungrey
Bingo. I think the smart people have seen the writing on the wall regarding the writing.
Members jjjg
Yet he says he may be back one day. That's the odd line, I think he's just waiting until they come to him now and playing a money stale mate game.
Members psychofan
Not only that but there is no clear vision for the future. They thrust the younger set on the audience and then after a few years of front burner stories and overexposure, they're gone. They've done it THREE times in the last decade: First with the Shawn/Belle set, then the Chelsea/Nick/etc., and now with Melanie and her crew. They come from nowhere, own the show, and then leave with nothing left to show for themselves. Absolutely ridiculous.
Members Gray Bunny
The last time they wrote for teens with the intent of transitioning them into well-developed adult characters was Sami, Austin, Carrie & Lucas. I think they lost their way with the Last Blast crowd in 2003 when Phillip was recast with the Real World "actor" and he was suddenly obsessed with Belle instead of Chloe. Then when Chloe returned, she was islanded with Brady & Nicole while that cliche mustache-twirling mess known as Jan Spears took Shawn captive while Belle was recasted with a capable but asexual Martha Madison, etc. etc. Bottom line: the last blast's "golden years" (if they ever had any) ended soon after they graduated highschool. JMO.
Members JackPeyton
Days last 2/3 sets of younger people have had some very good actors and characters that could have carried on the show, but there is no intensive to stay with a show once their first contract is up and the show is unable/unwilling to invest in the characters enough to recast them. Shawn/Belle/Mimi/Chloe/Philip/Jan was a great set of characters. Max/Chelsea/Morgan/Nick/etc was also good. Will/Chad/Melanie/Abby/Gabi etc could be great characters. here is just such lack of investment and no plan or writing to support any of them beyond small arcs. That is the issue. Members KMan101
I agree Jack. It is very disappointing. And the one theyre invested in now (chad and gabi have yet to be axed) is horribly developed.
Members sungrey
BINGO. Hit the nail on the head with this one. I actually think that this group of younger actors (Casey, Molly, Freddie, Chandler, Camila, Kate and now Schuyler) was the best group they had going since the days of Jay, Nadia, Kirsten, Jason, Farah, Heather and Salem High. The big problem? The writing. Ya, we bitched a lot about Tom Langan, but at least he wrote some pretty decent stories for this group. Marlene and Darrell tried but didn't quite get this group the stuff it deserved. Two girls going crazy, one after the other? Pass. And don't get me started on Melanie going down an ALLEY and being cornered by a kidnapper, after she's taken SELF-DEFENSE classes. Wonder if this was when she said "Ya, I think I'm gonna get out of here?" lol Richard Culliton has written some pretty good stuff for this younger set. Too bad they didn't name him head writer. I think they would have had a writer who could balance young and old.
Members darraholic
I think the younger set def has the chance to be great with the right writing. Never was a fan of Molly's. Meh with Schuyler Yancey. I really do like Chandler, Freddie & Kate Mansi. Camila Banus imo has shown with some good writing that she can actually do well. IMO the scene when Will goes ballistic in Maggie's kitchen, I actually thought it was Camila who stole the scenes in that episode. I feel bad for Casey. The writing for him has been awful, but I think with the right writing, I could like the character.
Members KMan101
Chandler, Freddie, and Kate are the better ones. Schuyler leaves a lot to be desired. Meh. Casey is hit or miss. I think he can be pretty good at times, just needs some work. I really like him and want to like Chad, too. I really do. The writing is so piss-poor. Same thing with Camilla. I think she's capable but Gabi is a complete bust at this point. Her character wasn't even really involved when her boyfriend came out of the closet. Where was the after affects on HER? That alone right there proved the writers had no interest in developing her character. Molly's also not bad when written correctly for and the character isn't treated and written like the second coming.
Members JackPeyton
Chandler, Freddie and Kate are great. They really need to bring on a bisexual badguy who takes up with Abby... and Sonny.
