ABC's ridiculous comments about GH and OLTL hardly matter anymore. Of note is the fact that DAYS is nowhere on that release. They got a 0.8 in women 18-49 AT BEST. Ouch.

And it's interesting that OLTL has seen a gradual drop since this whole Gigi/Rex/Stacy/Cutter nonesense began. Didn't learn anything the first time, did you?

I'm pretty sure that they're solid through 2013, although I have nothing concrete to back that up. Just based on articles I read at the time. That said, given the horrific landscape of the rest of NBC's line-up, even if they could cancel Days next year, my guess is that it wouldn't matter. Days might be dipping, but NBC has much bigger problems right now. It might be counter-intuitive, but I'll start worrying more about Days once NBC's Primetime line-up starts to shape up, at which point they can afford to ax a show w/ 2.5M loyal viewers.

Alright, so NBC doesn't have an option in the contract to cancel it in 2012? They must wait until the 2013 to cancel it? If that is true, should we be "worried" about DAYS' ratings right now? Or is this a period where ratings "don't matter" (whether they are high or low), that the window period that NBC will look at is late 2012/early 2013 when they decide to renew DAYS or not, so that's when ratings will "matter"?

Right, NBC does not have an option to cancel it in 2012. As for worrying, the ratings right now don't matter as much as those a year from now, but I wouldn't hold out much hope that the show will be renewed, even if it rebounds, because all the networks seem to be giving back daytime hours in exchange for more lucrative shows they can syndicate to local stations. ABC has Katie (which is taking GH's slot), CBS has Jeff Probst (who will probably kill LMAD at CBS), and NBC will surely want to get into the game at some point.

I think the time to worry about Days' ratings will be the 6-month stretch from September 2012 - March 2013, just like when the strong ratings for the show from September 2009 - March 2010 guaranteed its renewal back then. The decision will most likely be made in the spring of 2013, and if the ratings are strong leading up to that decision, if NBC's primetime line-up continues with its anemic ratings, and if the show remains on its budget-friendly production schedule, then we just might get Days to its 50th anniversary.

That is not necessarily true. A pickup through 2013 does not necessarily imply that NBC doesn't have the right to cancel it. There may be terms and conditions related to ratings, demographics and/or budget that could allow NBC to cancel the show.

We'll never know what's in the DAYS/NBC contract for certain unless one side publishes it, but usually there are confidentiality clauses inherent to the deals. The press releases were when DAYS was riding a wave of positive ratings and Jeff Zuker was on his way out, so the message was going to be positive even if clauses exist in the contract that are negative.

Jeff Zuker being on his way out is something people overlook. He may have renewed it simply because he felt like it or maybe because he wanted to screw over NBC, we'll never know. What we do know is that the man who renewed the show is gone and the new executive team hasn't had to deal with a DAYS renewal yet. I do think NBC's overall terrible ratings actually help DAYS because the show is not the main priority, primetime is.

Frankly, every week counts, NBC looks at this show, looks at the trends across daytime and then determines what their next moves will be. As Carolyn1980 points out the other networks are giving back hours to their affiliates in order to cash in on syndicated programming. It takes time to develop and launch a syndicated property, NBC will be planning those projects now so every rating counts.

As they are already taping March 2012 and outlining who knows what Corday will have to decide soon if he lets MarDar script the renewall months or if he fires them and brings someone more seasoned for the last year. Once they start to script fall next year there is no way back.

I think he will give them a chance till Feb 2012 to see if this latest round of EJami and other stories connected to it reverses the trend. If not, I think we will see some serious panicking from him come March.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
