I think the idea is that Todd is a wounded angel and anything he does is not his fault. That's been the writing for him for eons anyway. Well, that, and half the time, the show seems to imply we should think what he does is fun and hot (airquotes, et al).

Yeah I was thinking something similar and have seen the theory thrown around a bit..But then you have to take into account she was apparently responsible for his shooting earlier in the year as well which was never explained as to why she wanted him taken out then....and he choked her at the police station.
